Single_dreamer Posted August 28, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 28, 2014 Checked on my booking to be sure I added Cruise Care. The RCCL agent informed me that Cruise Care no longer covers airfare. Since, I may be traveling in winter, should I just insure my airfare with the airline or purchase extra travel insurance to cover the cruise and the air? I may have presumed that my airfare was covered since I used a TA for a few of my other cruise bookings.

Cruise Care does not cover air that has been independently booked any more. I always take out 3rd party insurance when booking air independently just as a precautionary measure. cruisnseas Posted August 28, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 28, 2014 It will continue to cover ChoiceAir, however. And, before people panic, if you booked CruiseCare and your airfare before the change date (not sure the exact date anymore) you are still covered. I want to say it was around June 1. Marie51 Posted August 28, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 28, 2014 I use http://www.insuremytrip.com to buy insurance that covers both the airfare and cruise. Just group the cost together when getting your quote. It will usually be less than getting Cruisecare and then getting a separate policy just for airfare. nelblu Posted August 28, 2014 #12 Share Posted August 28, 2014 With this drop in coverage, why would any cruiser purchase trip insurance thru them. When booking in the future, I must evaluate separate trip insurance versus coverage from my Visa Explorer card.

I'm guessing those who drive to the port would not be affected by the reduction in coverage.

The cost of Cruise Care is determined by $$$ spent and not on age of passengers. Edited August 28, 2014 by cruisenfever

I guess I could drop the cruise care and just purchase separate coverage including cruise and airefare. I've used Allianz through the TA. cruisenfever Posted August 28, 2014 #21 Share Posted August 28, 2014 Patti, do you buy Allianz directly or through one of the trip insurance websites? Directly through Allianz. It usually comes up after I book our flights on-line through the airline's website. If not, I just call them.
DebJ14 Posted August 28, 2014 #22 Share Posted August 28, 2014 We buy Travel Safe because it is primary coverage. Don't have to fool with filing claims on insurance we know will not pay anything for travel (health, homeowner's etc). Last straw was when Allianz wanted us to file with our credit card company, and health insurance before filing with them. Instead of getting paid back in a few weeks it took months to get Allianz to cough up anything.
FLACRUISER99 Posted August 28, 2014 #23 Share Posted August 28, 2014 I'm also in the same boat;) as I planed to use CruiseCare on a cruise I booked on Brilliance in Dec 2013, Ok so far but ship sails June 2015 and it's now too late to purchase 3rd. party insurance/w a pre existing condition waiver.
