Annietoo Posted August 29, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 29, 2014 I have an inside room booked on a 16 night cruise to Hawaii in September and paid a great price for this. Today Carnival called and offered me a balcony room for $50 per night more (not per person but total). Not just any balcony but an aft extended balcony for this price. I have never had an aft facing balcony. Deal or no deal?
edinboro cruiser Posted August 29, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 29, 2014 Sounds like a good deal. I always cruise with a balcony. Just booked that cruise today for next year. That's a long cruise to be in an interior. Nice to have balcony to relax Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
scoobyfish Posted August 29, 2014 #3 Share Posted August 29, 2014 Great deal if you can afford it. It's a long cruise to have an inside cabin in Hawaii. :)
golfadj Posted August 29, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 29, 2014 800 for balcony. more than i would pay.
dallas2008 Posted August 29, 2014 #5 Share Posted August 29, 2014 Great Deal. Do it! we always get an aft balcony and the extended is great. Especially if you want to just relax at night outside or instead of the pool area. Inside for 16 days way to long. It is worth the money.
WAHMto5 Posted August 29, 2014 #6 Share Posted August 29, 2014 If you can wing it I would go for it! You will love your balcony;)
JimAOk1945 Posted August 29, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 29, 2014 (edited) That sounds like a fantastic offer. I would grab it quick before it's gone. Most people who have had an aft balcony really enjoy it and often book one again after they try it. Edited August 29, 2014 by JimAOk1945
elliair Posted August 29, 2014 #8 Share Posted August 29, 2014 Not for $800 more! But then again I'd never book an inside room, if I can't afford a balcony, then we won't go.
Swayde Posted August 29, 2014 #9 Share Posted August 29, 2014 I would pass. Not much to see out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean for most of the cruise. Hawaii is expensive so I'd rather use the money to do excursions. But that's me and we prefer the quiet, dark interior rooms. We did take a balcony for Alaska and that, was worth it. But there is beautiful scenery the entire cruise to view.
Canadian_J Posted August 29, 2014 #10 Share Posted August 29, 2014 For an itinerary/duration like that and especially for an aft, I'd do it in a heartbeat :) we had an aft for Alaska and absolutely loved it, great for cruises where there is lots to see! Frank12 Posted August 29, 2014 #11 Share Posted August 29, 2014 It all depends on what 800 bucks means to you. It's your money. Spend as you see fit.
Lovefuninthesun Posted August 29, 2014 #12 Share Posted August 29, 2014 $50 sounds good, but x 16 nights - $800! :o Too rich for my blood, but if you can swing it, give it a whirl! :) Sent from my iPhone 5 using Cruise Critic App
D4 Posted August 29, 2014 #13 Share Posted August 29, 2014 You could ask what the cost is to switch to an oceanview.
UpstateCruizer Posted August 29, 2014 #14 Share Posted August 29, 2014 We had a balcony on our cruise to Hawaii. Everyone said "you have to have one". Well the weather was much cooler on there wasn't much to see so we were only out there a few times for the entire cruise. Hawaii on a cruise ship isn't like Alaska where you may have beautiful sights to view. I'd save the money and use it elsewhere :)
JennyD1 Posted August 29, 2014 #15 Share Posted August 29, 2014 That's a great price for an aft extended balcony. Sitting out on your private balcony on sea days, watching the wake is wonderful. I would do it in a heartbeat. Love the aft balconies. I just paid $700 to go from an interior to a regular balcony on an 8 day cruise. (no aft's were available)

timbom Posted August 29, 2014 #17 Share Posted August 29, 2014 Waste of money you have basically all sea days but a couple you will be in port and never use. I remember what this cruise was going for almost doubling your cost is not worth it, On a long cruise you will find plenty of things to do
092306 Posted August 29, 2014 #18 Share Posted August 29, 2014 I think it would be nice to have for a long cruise so I would seriously consider it. Really depends on how $800 extra will impact your budget. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
kona_wahine Posted August 29, 2014 #19 Share Posted August 29, 2014 I just picture 16 nights in an interior. I think I'd go crazy. I like spending time in the room and on the balcony. $800 is alot but I'd be very tempted to come up with the cash-ola.
momof3cruisers Posted August 29, 2014 #20 Share Posted August 29, 2014 You could ask what the cost is to switch to an oceanview. That's my thought as well. I don't think I could deal with 16 nights in an inside. I must be the only person on earth who gets sea sick with an aft view balcony. Never sea sick otherwise, but watching the wake while at sea just about did me in. So, I couldn't even be out there unless we were in port. pspercy Posted August 29, 2014 #21 Share Posted August 29, 2014 800 for balcony. more than i would pay. 16nts, aft balcony - plus lots of sea days, I'd do it:D
sjn911 Posted August 29, 2014 #22 Share Posted August 29, 2014 (edited) Hawaii is beautiful..the ocean is beautiful...The air outside is perfect there..the evenings to die for..the big blue stream behind you would be ideal most of the time..I would spend it if i could..My heaven I can not believe the "no scenery" opinion, if you have any action on the volcano you will be on your own private balcony. if you go around Kauai and Honolulu and Lahaina has more mtns than Kihei, Maui area but still topography to see there and mostly everywhere plus ocean sports, boats, rainbows. If you can afford it..probably a good deal better and far than booking that cabin outright if you got a great deal long ago. My Lord i saw huge turtles from way up in a helicopter in Kauai and the Napili coast is STUNNING . Hawaii photos... http://www.hawaiipictures.com/ PLUS Optional sea life from ship Wow...eat on the balcony from lido..HEAVEN Edited August 29, 2014 by sjn911

The only time I could enjoy it was in port, and then it was too hot to really stay out there any length of time. Also, didn't care for the lack of privacy. Everyone back there could see us, and we could see them. Personal preference, but I would not do it.

Annietoo Posted August 29, 2014 Author #25 Share Posted August 29, 2014 Thanks everyone for helping with my decision. We took the deal and cannot wait to enjoy our aft facing cabin. Our overall price was still low for a 16 day balcony and appreciate that carnival called us as repeat customers. Apparently they needed to free up some sold out inside rooms. All ocean views sold out too. The rep said we could pick any balcony room and I noticed this extended aft view and needed your opinion. I know we will enjoy the fresh air and view and especially the Hawaiian Islands.
