ShoreEx/Onboard Spending*

So just had my TA update one of my bookings as the OBC offered by Princess has gone up for the sailing as we are not in final payment date.

Interesting to note, it now states ShoreEx/Onboard Spending* in the booking on my Princess in the payments & credit.

The old booking had it as On Board Credit Promotion.

Does this now have to be used on shore excursions or is it also just Onboard Spending and they have renamed it?

All OBC will be used for whatever the first charges are to hit the on board account.

So be it daily auto-tip, bar charges, shore excursions, photos, etc., what ever is charged first will be subtracted from the OBC until it is all used up.

Actually, I wouldn't be so sure... Princess is now offering the option of pre-paying excursions so I think this credit will be applied separately.

Don't count on being able to use it for anything else...

We won't know for sure until someone who has done this sails and reports back.

However, when prepaying the daily gratuities was added as an option earlier this ear it turned out just to be OBC that other charges could eat away.

We booked today, I just went back to see what it says under "payments/credits".... Our $200 is still listed as "On Board Credit".. We called Princess a few times to ask different questions and always confirmed (with different reps on the phone) our OBC. For us they stated it is good for anything but casino.

You should call them directly and ask them what it means.

In the 3 For Free Sale's fine print it says it's basically OBC:

"Free shore excursion credit of up to $200 per stateroom ($100 per person) applies to Europe voyages and $50 per 3rd and 4th berth guests, and up to $100 per stateroom ($50 per person) for Alaska and Japan and $25 per 3rd and 4th berth guests for cruises advertised in this promotion only. A credit in the respective dollar amount will be posted to your stateroom account upon embarkation. This credit may be used for any excursion purchased during your cruise, including any that were pre-reserved online. Credit may be used on a single voyage only, is not redeemable for cash and expires at the end of that voyage. Any unused credit will be applied toward the stateroom account balance when balance is equal to or exceeds amount of credit. Offer is not transferable and may not be combinable with other select offers or other onboard credits. Shore Excursion credit is quoted in U.S. dollars".

The onboard folio is a very simple debit/credit system. You have credits and expenses (debits), very simple addition and subtraction. Princess has even simplified the OBC sources and is treating them all the same regardless of how you got the OBC. I can't see Princess revamping the system and complicating it with OBC being limited to specific expenses.

The bottom line is that OBC is OBC is OBC. :)

I just looked at the Princess.com page. When you pull up the sailing it just shows the prices and calls it Onboard Credit and OBC applies to guests 1 & 2 only.

I will not be very happy if it's not just OBC and does need to be used as something for shore excursions because it's the 3 day Regal sailing and the only port is Princess Cay. I also gave up straight OBC.

Hopefully they do how they always do it and just apply the OBC as a positive balance at the beginning and just start adding up the charges.

Well we just got a boost in OBC as well. Our original $200 simply said OBC... Now our new amount says "Shore Ex/Onboard Spending*"

I asked them 3 times in our conversation to confirm it could be used for anything and not just excursions. They confirmed over and over that it can be used for anything.

I asked the person to email me a confirmation directly from them with their contact details so I could print it out and bring it with us in case we have any issues (Still waiting on email but I told them to take their time when they are not busy and I don't mind waiting a day or 2 for it)

Now my question is (Forgot to ask while on the phone with them). Our room is attached all to one credit card. The Shore EX/On Board Spending" lists certain amounts for each passenger.

I am wondering if each of us has to follow that limit or if we can all charge whatever we want and the entire OBC is used for the entire room and not per person?

Example of what I mean.

If passenger A has $200 OBC and B has $100 OBC... Can both passengers charge $150 and the entire OBC will be used to cover everything?

Anyone know?
