beckntom Posted September 12, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 12, 2014 Anyone heard of a possible group onboard the January 11, 2015, of the Emerald Princess out of Houston? I have noticed the aft sections of Baja and Aloha--and much of Caribe--decks are completely booked. (Not the aft facing, but the far aft sections.) It's quite odd since these sailings in January are otherwise rather sparsely booked. A friend is going with me on her first cruise ever, and I don't want her cruise to be impacted by a large group taking over any venues. There are other dates that work for us, but this one covers a birthday so I'd rather stick with it if possible. I know some of you will say that groups don't affect a ship or the sailing, but I'd just rather not take a chance.

Colo Cruiser Posted September 12, 2014 #8 Share Posted September 12, 2014 Holy cow! I don't know that I want some other site copying everything I might post here. It doesn't seem right. I hope you realize that what you say in a public forum on the internet goes to many more places then that.
Cruisin' Chick Posted September 12, 2014 #9 Share Posted September 12, 2014 Usually there will be groups on just about any cruise you go on, especially for any mass market ship. Family and class reunions, companies giving the cruise as a sales incentive, special interest groups, etc. It's just the really obnoxious ones or the ones taking over venues that are troublesome. We've had two cruises that fit the first category: 1) a world tourney of bingo. Very addictive types -- you wouldn't want to be between the MDR door or the casino gate when either of those opened. They did have the big lounge just about every day for their bingo games, but other than the residue smell of tobacco (that was when there was a smoking side) lingering...that was okay as they weren't by the pools, etc. 2) an extended family on our first Hawaiian cruise. They became the topic of discussion everywhere as the parents parked themselves in the casino during its hours and the kids were unsupervised (they didn't participate in the kids' program according to our daughter -- maybe because they spoke a different language or their parents didn't care they were running around the ship at all hours bothering other passengers. The rest of the time, we wouldn't know if there was a group onboard unless we saw a sign (some group was using one MDR during the day for their meetings -- but it wasn't going to be open for meals anyway). There was a group of French speakers on one cruise but they seemed nice. One channel on the cabin TV was devoted to French programming. We were watching a couple of movies in French -- none of us knew the language, but we knew the movie "The Incredibles" almost by heart by then. So unless some group was just obnoxious, taking over the pool or some other part of the ship that we wanted to use, or a bunch of religious nuts shutting down the regular entertainment (as I've heard has happened on a few cruises), I'm not going to be bothered. beckntom Posted September 12, 2014 Author #13 Share Posted September 12, 2014 Thank you, everyone, for the helpful information. In this case, no news is good news! :) I appreciate the links, info, and help in trying to get this mystery solved. I guess maybe we'll find out the answer when we board. I will hope for one of those "non-troublesome" groups and not the kind detailed by Cruisin' Chick. :) Thanks, RickEk, for the info on that "harvesting" site. I'm with Thrak: Holy cow!
