Xrayal Posted September 20, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 20, 2014 Hi, I'm due to sail on the emerald soon and was wondering if anyone had knowledge of the current price for the 12 bottle wine packages and if it is available or not on the Emerald whilst she is based out of Southampton. paul929207 Posted September 20, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 20, 2014 The silver level for 12 bottles is $20 per bottle or $240 plus 15% tip.
2pbears Posted September 20, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 20, 2014 We recently paid $290 + 15% for the 12 bottle gold package. Not sure if it is available on the Emerald but I think it should be. We were sailing on the Royal out of Copenhagen. We had mixed feelings about the wine package. While it was very convenient for purchasing wine with dinner, getting wine for the room was both challenging and time consuming. We did drink better quality wines than we would have had without the package however. I think on future cruises we will probably purchase a smaller package and bring on a couple of bottles of wine for consumption on our balcony. We got the wine package on the Emerald in the Caribbean cruises in Jan/Feb this year. We had no trouble getting wine for our room. We just asked our waiters for the bottle of wine we wanted, unopened, to take to our room after the meal. No problem. :)

No problem. :) Yes, we did that as well but that meant having to go back to the room after dinner before heading off to see a show or to the casino. It was just a bit of an inconvenience. And trying to buy a bottle of wine in the afternoon when the dining rooms were closed was next to impossible.
Astro Flyer Posted September 20, 2014 #6 Share Posted September 20, 2014 (edited) The details on the wine packages are: Note: A 15% gratuity is added to all package prices (like any other bar purchase). Silver Package (wines up to $29 per bottle list price) 7 bottles -- $161 (average of $23 per bottle) 10 bottles -- $210 (average of $21 per bottle) 12 bottles -- $240 (average of $20 per bottle) Gold Package (wines up to $45 per bottle list price) 7 bottles -- $217 (average of $31 per bottle) 10 bottles -- $290 (average of $29 per bottle) 12 bottles -- $336 (average of $28 per bottle) You get a punch card which can be used at any of the dining locations. You may choose any wine on on the regular wine menu. If you want to buy a wine that costs more than what the package covers, you just pay the difference. For example, if you have a Gold package and buy a wine that costs $46, the charge for $46 will appear on your stateroom account, followed by a $45 credit. The packages are suppose to be available on 10+ day cruises but sometimes not because of "insufficient inventory". born2cruize Posted September 20, 2014 #7 Share Posted September 20, 2014 Hi, I'm due to sail on the emerald soon and was wondering if anyone had knowledge of the current price for the 12 bottle wine packages and if it is available or not on the Emerald whilst she is based out of Southampton. Yes, the Emerald out of Southampton offers both the Silver & Gold packages in 7, 10 & 12 bottle. Silver are wines valued up to $29.00 and Gold wines are valued up to $45.00. The link below will take you the the Princess Patters for July 12 & July 26, 2014 out of Southampton. The last page has the information concerning all the beverage programs offered. http://www.borntocruise.org/Home/Princess_Patter.html
Xrayal Posted September 20, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted September 20, 2014 Thanks for the detailed info everyone, much appreciated. Planning on taking 6 bottles on board with me and getting a 12 bottle gold package. Hope that's enough for 14 nights! Cheers.
nanwel Posted September 21, 2014 #9 Share Posted September 21, 2014 Order a bottle of your wine for the table. Then send back any leftover for the next night. Tell your waiter you want a 2nd bottle to take to your room at the end of your meal. On a 7 night cruise I do this 2 or 3 times, never been a problem. Sometimes have both a red and a white open at the table at the same time. if it is a screw top, you can open it in your room, if not have them remove the cork before you take it back to your room. BEAV Posted September 24, 2014 #10 Share Posted September 24, 2014 We would tend to opt for the Gold Package. Is there a wine list to view the wines offered between $30 and $45 that would fall under the Gold Package?
Astro Flyer Posted September 24, 2014 #11 Share Posted September 24, 2014 (edited) We would tend to opt for the Gold Package. Is there a wine list to view the wines offered between $30 and $45 that would fall under the Gold Package? We got the 12 bottle Gold package & had plenty availability of wines towards the $45 limit. We even got some wine over $45 & they added the amount without additional tip (i.e. $49 minus $45 credit & charged $4). Instead of taking room to post the entire list here's a link to the list including a PDF file of the Royal's wine list which was also on the Sapphire & Golden this year: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1939814 Edited September 24, 2014 by Astro Flyer
