Mutumbojimbo Posted October 6, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 6, 2014 I find it frustrating that an option that was available every night (sushi bar) was replaced with a venue that, in my experience, is only open certain evenings. bjd2 Posted October 6, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 6, 2014 The last 2 ships we were on both had Bonsai, which has far better sushi than used to be at the sushi bar. The Taste Bar was open every night on our cruises. It was very nice to be able to try different things each night, although we didn't get there every night. The Cucina sample that they gave out got us to have dinner there one night on both cruises. It was so fantastic. :p

Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app I miss the sushi too, but I also enjoy the Taste Bar. I've always thought that Carnival needed more snack options along the promenade. If I am playing in the casino, it would be nice to have snacks close by where I do not have to leave the casino to eat. It would be nice to grab a snack and continue playing. Carnival used to have small bowls of salty snacks at the casino bar too, but I haven't seen those in a long time. I would be all for Carnival having more snack options like sushi and Taste Bar in that area of the ship.
golfadj Posted October 6, 2014 #4 Share Posted October 6, 2014 We dont do sushi so think that for us this is an improvment. Wonder why they dont have sushi on nights no taste bar?

It was open 4 out of 6 on our Breeze cruise, and 3 of 4 on the Paradise. It's in a good location for pre-dinner drinks and snacks on both ships when available. kelkel2 Posted October 6, 2014 #6 Share Posted October 6, 2014 I miss the sushi, but the taste bar was open every night. And, it was really good!! I was very impressed with the food it offered. And, it was always busy! i think maybe they decided the taste bar would be enjoyed by a larger group of people more than sushi would be? Not really sure? But the taste bar was really good!! 092306 Posted October 6, 2014 #7 Share Posted October 6, 2014 Taste bar is okay, but prefer the sushi bar. For some reason we tend to miss the taste bar when open. A few things were good, but I wouldn't miss it if they eliminated it.
WayTooCool Posted October 6, 2014 #8 Share Posted October 6, 2014 The Little Woman and I spent MANY a Happy Hour at the sushi bar, meeting up with friends cruising with us; doing away with sushi is a great disappointment! Taste bar is lame at best. We've complained every time, but I don't hold any hope it will ever come back. We finally resorted to sharing the cost of a small canapé tray that we took down to the bars/table areas and met our friends and enjoyed sushi and yummy tidbits - the portions on a small canapé tray were VERY generous. sandij Posted October 6, 2014 #9 Share Posted October 6, 2014 We were on the Sunshine last year and the taste bar was open everyday, in fact they served a nice breakfast there and with no crowds/
katiel53 Posted October 6, 2014 #10 Share Posted October 6, 2014 We used to sail the Dream when she was in Pt Canaveral. When Carnival did away with the sushi bar and replaced it with the Taste Bar, they moved the sushi to the Lido buffet. We are not sushi eaters so I don't know if this is still the case on Dream or other ships, but I had some great things when the Taste Bar was just off the casino. I didn't try the Taste Bar on Carnival Liberty but I hope to on our next cruise.
Cruise life Posted October 6, 2014 #11 Share Posted October 6, 2014 We personally liked the Sushi better; it's personal preference. We used to make a point of getting to the sushi bar to see what was being made each night, now we only go if we are bored or starving, LOL, so not much;) Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app
Mutumbojimbo Posted October 6, 2014 Author #12 Share Posted October 6, 2014 I like the offerings at both, although the selections at Taste Bar pair better (to me) with Bourbon. I'm encouraged that some are reporting that the Taste Bar has been open every night, maybe Carnival has rectified the problem. GRANNYOFSIX Posted October 6, 2014 #14 Share Posted October 6, 2014 We just got off the Pride yesterday. The Taste Bar was open mainly on Sea Days. One sea day the Taste Bar was closed but it was open on one port evening. We thought each offering was delicious. We went up twice each time the Taste Bar was open. We don't care for sushi so the Taste Bar was a big improvement for us! Yummy......... :)

Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app On my last cruise on Splendor last month, they only had the Taste Bar on 2 of the 7 nights. I look forward to the Taste Bar since I usually eat late at around 9:00pm. I wish on nights they don't have the Taste Bar they replace it with with Sushi or something else.:(
muffin Posted October 6, 2014 #16 Share Posted October 6, 2014 For those of us who have not yet been , what do they serve at the taste bar? Can you each order something different and share? Is the bar especially pleasant? Thx.
SadieN Posted October 6, 2014 #17 Share Posted October 6, 2014 It's a small bite. We've had meatballs, sushi, shredded meat, pumpkin soup tortilla soup. I know there's more but that's what I remember. Basically a taste of restaurants across the fleet. The Mexican I had at the inspiration Taste Bar was much better than the Iguana station in the Conquest. YMMV

I've had items from Blue Iguana Cantina, Cucina del Capitano, the Steakhouse, and Red Frog Pub. There is usually some place close by to get a drink. SadieN Posted October 6, 2014 #22 Share Posted October 6, 2014 (edited) A couple of small appetizers each time. Nothing to share but you can have as many as you want. As an example They give napkins and toothpicks. No forks or spoons. The pork is hard to eat. I'll use two toothpicks to use as puny chopsticks. ;) Edited October 6, 2014 by SadieN

jnwinos Posted October 6, 2014 #24 Share Posted October 6, 2014 My family always met for Sushi and drinks at 5:00 but now we are stuck trying to enjoy The Taste bar. We think it is lame and wish Carnival had not gotten rid of the Sushi Bar. It is always that way, when people enjoy something too much they do away with it. Have you ever eaten mashed potatoes with the toothpick from your drink? Not easy! Maggie Edited October 6, 2014 by maggieworkman
