spacewoman Posted October 12, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 12, 2014 The DH had in the Bermuda webcam very early this morning. They are getting hit right now with 70 mph winds. Webcam operator was showing a few trees snapped, some tents and benches over. We both just lost the webcam. Our thoughts with everyone on the island to stay safe Kathy
Rare www3traveler Posted October 12, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 12, 2014 I was just looking at The Dawn's web cam from the Norwegian website. They are in some very rough seas at the moment. I know that their Captain will keep everyone as safe as possible.
sebas030 Posted October 12, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 12, 2014 This from Royal Gazette : "The full fury of Tropical Storm Fay was unleashed on Bermuda in the early hours of the morning with wind gusts of up to 82 miles per hour. Trees are down throughout the Island, bus services have been suspended and Belco reports 18,000 customers are currently without power. The Bermuda Weather Service reported at 8 am: "The back of the eye of Fay brought the strongest winds to the Island which were enhanced by thunderstorms. Conditions will soon begin to improve. Tropical Storm conditions are likely for a few hours on the back side of the storm, with easing winds by late-morning, as Fay moves slowly away. Conditions then continue to improve well into the week ahead, as high pressure builds." ....not looking good :(

spacewoman Posted October 12, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted October 12, 2014 The DH just checked the ship schedules for Bermuda and, yes, they are due in there at 9 this morning. Grandeur of the seas as well. Obviously that is not happening anytime soon
USNUZULOOSE Posted October 12, 2014 #9 Share Posted October 12, 2014 The tracker says it is. But the captain could do something else. From the port cam does not look to be raining.
sebas030 Posted October 12, 2014 #10 Share Posted October 12, 2014 Is the Dawn heading for Bermuda? The Dawn is actually about 26nm North of the Island, at 8kn in a North West direction away from the Island... The winds are terrible and are probably preventing the ship to enter the channel andd reaching the Island. We can expect a few hours of delay...if not more... The port webcam is working...it's not pretty right now !!!

yoboy08753 Posted October 12, 2014 #13 Share Posted October 12, 2014 I'm curious why they would have sailed this close to the storm knowing it was going to be there this morning. I was under the assumption that the cruise lines sail around this kind of weather when have knowledge of it:confused: The Dawn does not look too happy right now. Mmg8142 Posted October 12, 2014 #14 Share Posted October 12, 2014 After watching the port cam before bed last night, I had a dream that the Dawn was pulling into port in this storm. I hope they delay quite a bit as it doesn't look good there right now.
bjinouno Posted October 12, 2014 #15 Share Posted October 12, 2014 These waves the dawn is hitting are nothing compared to the huge one that hit them a few years back! Guess they will just rock and roll. until it calms down and see if they can still get into Burmuda, How long of a stay were they to have?

fonekween Posted October 12, 2014 #17 Share Posted October 12, 2014 This just posted on Facebook by Port of Bermuda webcam: Port Bermuda Webcam 11 minutes ago Norwegian Dawn and Grandeur of the Seas are approaching, both around 20+ NM north of Bermuda. Follow them on our embedded Marine Traffic map. Turn on the wind speed layer to get a feel for the conditions. Snapshot from Dawn's bridge cam below. http://www.ncl.com/shipcams/dawncam/Fullsize.jpg ... unclear how they can dock in these conditions!

welove2cruise2014 Posted October 17, 2014 #21 Share Posted October 17, 2014 Just home from this Boston to Bermuda cruise on the Dawn. Yes, conditions were a bit scary for a while on Sunday with the high seas and heavy winds. Crew did a great job getting us there safely. We arrived in Bermuda sometime around 5pm on Sunday. Took a taxi to Horseshoe Bay Beach on Monday - lots of trees down, roads blocked with debris, saw some roof damage. Sad to see they are expecting yet another storm.
