The Worlds Largest Super Bowl Party at Sea cruise

Any one ever do this cruise? This year they are having the 22nd annual party on the Caribbean Princess January 28th. Just wondering how many people take party in these parties. And also if they take over certain areas of the ship.

Thanks for any help.

Are you sure? The website shows a 4 day cruise departing on 1/22 and a 5 day cruise departing on 1/26 with a port of call at Costa Maya on the 28th. No way that they can begin a cruise in Costa Maya. Plus, that cruise ends on 1/31, and a 7 day cruise begins later that day. Sunday, February 1 is the day of the Super Bowl, and the ship will be at Sea. While it is possible to have a Super Bowl party on board, in order to do so, you'd have to book the 1/31 sailing.

I was on the Island after having left the canal the day before. They really threw a good superbowl party. They used the MUTS screen and the theater.to show the superbowl. Because they were getting a satellite feed, the local commercials were missing so the screen would go dead from time to time. I watched it on the Lido deck MUTS. They set up tables with all types of finger food and later brought out sandwiches etc. The bar needless to say was very busy. Some watched it from the hot tubs and pool. Since we were in the southern Caribbean it was quite warm. The grill and pizzeria were alternatives as was the HC. It was crowded and imagine the theater was similar minus the food of course but plenty to drink. I would do it again if it worked out.

satxdriver,

are you talking about what the ship did for the super bowl or are you talking about what this "group tour" organizers did? Normally the public is not invited to events that groups plan since they pay extra for it. I check prices and they are higher than what the Princess site has.

I've been on for several super bowls and what you said sounds like what the ship provided for everyone onboard.

1/31 makes more sense.

A private group will do private events. But they cannot take over MUTS. At least, I don't think so.

Believe me they do take over MUTS and every other available area on the ship where they can watch the game. We were on the Crown princess this past Feb with this same group and they basically took over the whole ship for the whole week.

SO, is it that bad that we should rethink and maybe cancel the cruise. We are going just to relax and probably not even go ashore.

There is also a Polka group on board.

thanks for posting

But by "take over", do you mean they were the majority but others could watch the game on the screen? Or do you mean that they roped off the area and no one else was allowed in the pool area?

You could see the game, but the group had most of the chairs and loungers. There were also chairs set up in the bar area of the casino that were being used to watch the game. I don't know what the crowd in the theater was as I didn't go in there.

When you have 600 fun loving partiers on board it can get rather rowdy. Let me just say it was not the typical princess cruise. The dress code in the dining rooms were not enforced at all. Shorts every evening and nothing said to them about it.

Just my opinion, but I don't think I would sail with them again.

A superbowl fan group and a polka group?

That's quite the combination! Should be an interesting mix. :D

We've been on a few Superbowl cruises and I've never seen any reserved seating for a group, just a lot of people crowding around to see the game. It's always seating based on first come, first served.

What does a Polka group do on a cruise ship different than any other cruisers? It sounds interesting at least.

I have been on cruises with dance groups. They reserve areas of the ship for hours every day. They take over dancing in the atrium all day and will sit down there waiting for the evening dancing to start. I never saw anyone sitting in the area other than the dancers. That is not right!!!

They also took over the stern part of the Horizon court on the Royal. It was maddening to eat lunch on the open deck and have to go back inside to get to the other side. They dancing music could drive you nuts. We only ate out there once. Think what polka music is like.

Back in January/February we beaked a 2 week B2B on the Crown-not realizing that the 2nd week was the Super Bowl. (I am not a big football fan living up here in Alaska).

Anyway, the first week was great. The ship was full as usual, but we had no problems with Any time dining or any other venue.

The next week...the ship was invaded by this group of about 1,000 people. We haas waits for anytime dining as "the group" grabbed all the tables.

On the day of the Superbowl, the group took over the theater. The ship had parties on the Lido as well as a couple of lounges-but the only place that was closed was the theater.

Apparently, this group was a bunch of heavy drinkers. Princess had announced the new drink plan on this cruise and I am sure they lost their shirts. I figured that to break even you had to drink 6 drinks a day, every day. These guys had a six pack for breakfast and went on from there...

Anyway, breakfast was the nicest time on the ship-we had breakfast at around 8 am and "the group" never work up before noon! We walked the promenade on monday morning and it was completely deserted-from the stern to the atrium we saw no one! The MDR was so empty we had no one to share a table with.

There were reports of big guys doing cannonballs in the pool. We also saw guys in the MDR in shorts, tee shirts and sandals.

There were a ton of blue cards on the ship-one of the funniest things was on the last night we were in our room, having put out our bags a few hours before, when all of a sudden we hard this amazing commotion coming from next door. Apparently, they had no idea they were supposed to put their bags out and were then throwing bags around and getting things loaded as fast as possible!

During the Super Bowl, I strolled into the casino because the game was on. The first time I went in, I saw Seattle was ahead and could not believe it-but there were several Denver fans there in the state of shock, so I know it was true..things went downhill from there(for them anyway).

After that experience, I would never book a cruise during Super Bowl week.

Ugh. Sounds like a tough cruise. FWIW, I zealously try to avoid any cruise that will have a group of 1,000 people on it, whether they be a Ladies Sewing Society or Cannonballing Denver Bronco fans.

We've cruised on Super Bowl weekend for the last couple of years (because it's the week of our anniv.), and we've enjoyed watching it on the large screen by the pool. But luckily we've never been on the same boat as this group!. Whew! It sounds like a nightmare. We've booked for this upcoming Feb. too, but again, we were fortunate to sail on Sunday on the Regal. If we continue to cruise that week in the future, I will definitely check this "Super Cruise" website to make sure we aren't on that particular boat.

One night after the game, we were in Curacao. Dinner was open seating in any of the dining rooms and we decided to try the Botticelli Dining room for a change. We were seated at this table with some once people and one obnoxious guy, who had had a few. He greeted us pleasantly enough and then two of his regular table mates came in and went right passed him to another table! He was yelling of them to come over and they just ignored him...I wonder why...

Such was the nature of that cruise!

Thanks AKMAN for posting so they don't think that I am a crabby old lady saying the things I said about the group.

One thing I that another poster said did not come from me and that is that was about reserved seats for the game. I stated that there were extra seats set-up and they were all filled in all areas.

If you want a nice quiet typical Princess cruise, I would stay away from this sailing. JMHO

Maybe it's for the Super Bowl of Polka! You know! That very popular full-body-contact form of polka!

Then again, maybe not...

Another thing to remember: the cruise leaves on 1/31/the big game is on 2/1. That leaves 5 days of cruising after the party.

I can tell you that things can get pretty hairy/grim/or wild when the big event is over and all you have is the "cruise". By the end of the cruise there were a LOT of big, big hangovers!

 we are booked on this cruise to " escape completely" .... We really need the peaceful and relaxation vacation we always have on our Carribean cruises. I fear with what I read , that I may end up wanting to " escape completely" from the ship :( !!! I admit that it can be fun to have a lot of atmosphere on game day, but some of the comments make me worry about having the feeling that I will have a " spring break/ hairy chest contest" atmosphere before and after the game day. If it is so, what in the world made them think that Princess was a good choice ? Aren't there some other lines that are better known for a better " party" atmosphere. Final payment is soon.... Can I trust Princess to do things right and if needed, make sure that ALL passengers have a nice cruise ? I would believe I can trust them. Also, if it is only a few of the group that behave badly, I think that that can happen on any cruise with any kind of crowd, even the very upscale ones...;).

With all of the talk about roudy parties during Superbowl you would think it was a Carnival cruise. Princess is nothing like any of the comments I've been reading. Sure, there's a big crowd centered around the MUTS screen as well as a large screen set up in the lounges but other than some loud cheering going on during the game that's about it. We're not the type to get involved in wild & crazy parties but seeing the game on the ship with food provided beats a Superbowl party at home any day. :D
