deck 2 thru 10, that is the question!

Recommended Posts

Hello,

My wife calls me cheap. I booked the Soverign on Deck 2. she thinks I'm going to be so close to the crew I'll feel like I'm one of them!

Yes, I'm saving $50 pp by staying low but I don't think there is any differance from 2 thru 10 except that it takes you 20 seconds longer on the elevator.

Ok, who is right? DW or me?

Considering I'm paying for it out of my own fun money my vote won but I'm curious as what you think and/or exprienenced.

Hi Glen:

DH/I have cruised eight times and we've been on Deck 2 through Deck 10 and it's all a matter of how much you want to pay, where you want to be on the ship, how close you want to be to the stairs/elevator/public rooms, etc. There are pros/cons to any location so it's a personal opinion for each individual. It also depends on what size ship you're going on. Sovereign is not huge like the newer ships so it's easier to navigate through. No matter what you still have to wait for the elevator.

DH/I enjoyed all of the decks we were on but the one thing nice we liked about the lower cabins is that there's no people traffic except for those staying in the cabins. Since you do have the cinema's on that level you may have a little traffic before/after the movie but they aren't that popular on a cruise (just from what I saw over the years) so I wouldn't be too concerned.

Not sure if this helps or not... I'm just happy to go on a cruise and get away from it all for a while.

My theory is... the less we pay for the cabin, the more money we can spend.

Good luck and enjoy your cruise!

Welllllll......I looked at your post this way .... your going on a cruise on deck 2 ....... I'm not cruising at all ..... I'd rather be on deck 2 than not at all :D :D

I don't think its cheap, spend your savings on other things while onboard. Have fun and enjoy your cruise!! ;)

We have 3 cabins booked on Deck 2 in October. I would rather be cheap and spend my money on excursions, souveniers, etc. Of course I have never booked a balcony so can't compare to that but we have been in oceanview and inside.

The SOS doesn't have cinemas on Deck 2 anymore. They put cabins there when she was in drydock.

I agree with the other posters. I actually like being on Deck 3 better than when we were on Deck 8. It was a short walk up the stairs to most places and we could avoid the elevator lines! Just put me anywhere on a cruise ship and I'm a happy sailer! :) Enjoy!

I find us using the stairs MUCH more often than the elevator. On our 14 day Panama Canal cruise I think I can count how many times I used them on my fingers. We book cabins close to the stairwell. Midship must walk the lenght of the corridor just to get to the stairs. Look and see how many floors up or down you will have to do to get to the things most often. When we went on our last cruise we beat my inlaws back to the cabin by approx. 10 mins. each time by using the stairs. If $50 would get you on a floor very convient to using the stairs. I say it is well worth the fustration of full elevators and time wasted using them.

I have been getting a lower deck cabin 3 or less. Why? 1) I AM CHEAP! I have saved at least $100 per person! I use my $200 doing other fun things. 2) I can get motion sickness. The lower decks I am very happy. 3) It is more quiet. 4) I do the stairs. why? So I can eat more and not gain a ton of weight! It is part of my exercise routine. Have fun! I don't go until Dec.

Sounds like the key word in a lot of the posts is CHEAP....Hard way to enjoy life.

Sorry, I really disagree with you. Whether you are on deck 2 or a royal suite, you are on a cruise and can have a wonderful time! I would much rather spend less on the room so I have more to spend on tours, drinks, casino, etc. And you don't need to spend a ton to enjoy life!

Actually, it's the opposite: they get to enjoy more of life, because they pay less for their cruises, they get to go on MORE of them.....therefore, MORE FUN!!!! :D :D :D

I'm not going to comment on your post except to say I lived in New City from 1996-2003 and before that for 20 years in Tappan. I lived near Concord Drive on London Terrace. Howdyyyyyyyy ex neighbor. LOL

I have only been on one cruise on the Vision last December deck 2 inside.

for me it was not a matter of being cheap, but to go on a cruise or not to go.

I liked the fact it was quiet at night. Had a great time would a inside again in a flash.

I can't believe I read all these advisors to your question, and not one of them replied to your "SELFISHNESS"

Are you going on this cruise by your self or is your "dear wife" going with you?

Next, you say you are paying for it out of your own money. - - isn't that also your wife's?

Shouldn't you consider (for a measely 50 bucks) her desires??? Wouldn't that go a loooooooong way in making your cruise much more enjoyable.... maybe even more romantic????

Think about it next time you're spending $80 on flowers to make up for your insensitivity.

I suggest spend a few more dollars and go up a few decks, that way you are in the middle of the ship, Easy walk up to deck 7 for a nice walk around the promenade and only a few more steps to the pool deck. You would still be close enough to skip the elevators coming and going from excursions.

As others post have mentioned, I don't think there is a right or wrong, it's what the both of you agree on. Generally when you go on a cruise, you have in mind some dollar amount you're going to spend. My wife and I both work and we would sit down (mainly in our earlier cruises as we now have a feel for what we both want), and I would ask do you want more shopping money or a larger room. We would review costs of the cabins, etc. and come to some sort of agreement. Made both of us happy, and as I have said, if you can't have a good time on a cruise, you're either on the wrong vacation or need to get an attitude adjustment. IMHO.
