cruiser1955 Posted November 7, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 7, 2014 Received this from Cunard: * Important Information - Ebola Health Screening * Following the recent news regarding the Ebola virus, we wish to advise you that in collaboration with international health authorities we have implemented new screening and boarding procedures. Any passenger or crew member who has travelled to or through Liberia, Sierra Leone or Guinea within 21 days of their cruise departure date will be denied boarding. This policy also applies to anyone who has had contact with or helped care for, a person suspected of having Ebola within 21 days of their cruise departure date. We are also screening our bookings for any passengers coming from these countries. We continue to monitor the situation closely, along with our colleagues in the rest of the travel industry. If you require further information on Ebola, you can visit the World Health Organization's website at http://www.who.int or the NHS website at http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/ebola-virus. Should you have any questions or concerns about these travel requirements, please contact us on 0843 374 0000."

alibabacruisers Posted November 7, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 7, 2014 Thank you Jon for that information. It is good to see a proactive approach with information from Cunard with regards to Ebola. I hope they email everyone on the upcoming cruises, although we have not received one yet and our cruise is in January.
DDBINK1 Posted November 7, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 7, 2014 Hmm, what if the person questioned does not tell the truth? There is a nurse who started law suits and defied even self quarantine in Maine to prevent health officials from stopping her from going where ever she wanted. Do you think Carnival Corp. would bend to the pressure of a law suit like that??? (I hope not) I hope this all fades away soon and we can all get back to the buffet eating and social scene in the ships as before.
seacruise9 Posted November 7, 2014 #5 Share Posted November 7, 2014 Hi, I am booked on the Queen Mary 2's transatlantic crossing that departs from Southampton on Nov. 12. I received the same message from Cunard today. Chuck
Rare BlueRiband Posted November 8, 2014 #6 Share Posted November 8, 2014 (edited) I guess we'll never know how or if this can be enforced until somebody is denied boarding for that reason. Despite Ebola being an extremely febrile illness with a high fatality rate won't make any difference to the liability lawyer representing the complaining passenger. Especially if the passenger is a medical professional who attended to patients in those countries. I can just see it now: How can you deny a hard earned vacation to somebody who so selflessly helped the desperately poor and sick? Edited November 8, 2014 by BlueRiband
Underwatr Posted November 9, 2014 #7 Share Posted November 9, 2014 Ebola is also harder to transmit than Noro (in that you can't be feeling fine and still be contagious), which is what will affect many more cruisers this winter.
Rare Keith1010 Posted November 9, 2014 #8 Share Posted November 9, 2014 Thanks for sharing. Most cruise lines are doing this. Keith
