This will be our first cruise on Azura departing 29th November. Can anyone advise the availability of Wifi on the ship, during the Caribbean cruise

There should be a steady connection to wifi throughout as it connects to satellites regardless of location. However prepare for it to be painfully slow.

We've found that there's free wifi in the cruise terminals in most Caribbean ports, so you're better using them. The crew members do! The connections are always slower as it gets nearer sailaway, but in the middle of the day it's great - faster and obviously cheaper than on Azura. Which ports are you visiting? Happy to tell you about wifi in in those ports we've been to.

Many thanks everyone for your helpful advice. The Ports we will be visiting are Barbados,St Lucia,Grenada,Dominica,St Kitts, St Maarten, Tortola, Bonaire and Curaçao. If Tartanexile or anyone can suggest specific spots in any of these ports that would be brilliant!

If you can find a McDonalds there is always free wifi there.

WiFi on board is slow and VERY expensive.

 

As others have said, Most bars and terminals have free WiFi for you to use. Worst case is you have to buy a drink.

You never have to look very far either....

Barbados has free Wi-Fi in the terminal. At St Lucia it will depend where you dock but the Rum Shack has it, as does the bar upstairs in the duty free shopping area. St Kitts - it was in the bars. Can't remember where it was in St Maarten and didn't use in Tortola (Pussers Landing may have it) and haven't been to the last two ports.

Wifi on board is a pain.

 

Last time I was on Azura, there were always people with their phones/ipads in the internet room asking for help with logging on and off. I managed to add £35 to our bill because I didn't do it properly.

 

As everyone says, use the wifi in the ports.

Cane Garden Beach bar in Tortola claimed to have Wifi but we, along with everyone else we asked, failed to connect so I would try in Road Town. I think people sitting outside the bar just near Pusser's Outpost (bar) were using it (perhaps not next door but to the righthand side facing the building) - it was being advertised on the chalk board.

Which is much quicker than the wifi on board the ship. Also, most branches of Starbucks and MacDonalds have free wifi. This is often unsecured (unlike bars where you usually need to get a password from the barman) and often leaks out into the street outside, you can connect from there without needing to go inside.

Just had our cabin allocated this morning, so everything's done except the packing. So looking forward to our 1st cruise!

Yes, follow the crew and also follow the signs - most bars and cafe's in the ports have a sign advertising free wifi bigger than the signs advertising what food and drink specials they have, they know the free wifi pulls the punters in.

Sorry bit slow in replying as we've been away for a few days. We've visited the following ports and found wifi in these places and they're all very close to where you dock:

 

Barbados - Really good signal in the terminal buildings but gets very busy.

St Lucia - in the Karaoke bar at Pointe Seraphine (the port P&O uses).It's to the left as you get off the ship, in the terminal and is very popular with the crew.

Grenada - we had to use cafes but there's a really nice place to get free wifi and have a drink if you follow the low road round to the right as you leave the port. It's on stilts and sits over the water

St Kitts - There's a bar on the right just as you leave the port building so just lurk around there.

St Maarten - We usually just buy a drink in one of the bars at the broadwalk behind the beach and the connection's very good. You can also use wifi on the beach as all the bars serve you on the beach. You can get the water taxi from the port into town and it's fast and you can have unlimited journeys with an all-day ticket

Tortola - Have only ever found free wifi by buying a drink in one of the bars in town and not that close to the port but in walking distance. Maybe somebody else knows better?

Tortola try the bar next door-ish to Pusser's Outpost.

Just returned from Azura and wifi on ship is apparently going to be upgraded during refit next April. Will no doubt still be expensive but may be more reliable.

 

Used wifi in bars in St Maarten you can also purchase time from the post office near to the ship, iirc it was $5 for half hour, St Kitts was in the shopping area near the craft market for free. Antigua, I found free wifi in the casino near the ship. St Lucia you can buy wifi for $6 for whole day. Barbados was out near the taxis and a bar and free.

When recently crossing the Atlantic on Ventura, I found that I could send and receive emails from my Gmail account even though I had not logged into the passenger WiFi. It was great to stay in touch with everyone during 6 days at sea. Also my notifications from Facebook also came through. Strange.

St. Lucia - Caribbean Pirates Restaurant & Bar (upstairs in La Place Carenage - practically at the dock)

 

Dominica - Zenith Internet (11 Old Street) and Cyberland Internet (corner of Cork and Great George Streets)

 

St. Kitts - Sun Surf Internet Cafe (in the TDC Mall on Fort Street - just north of the Circus). Dot Com Cafe.

 

Tortola - You can sit in the gardens outside the civic offices and use their free wifi. 'The Pub' (near the Marina)

 

St.Maarten - Cyberlink Internet Cafe (53 Front Street, opposite Little Switzerland)
