Royal Gazette using an AP story says that Bermuda will be awarded the America's Cup in 2017. http://www.royalgazette.com/article/20141120/NEWS/141129953

I know from earlier articles, there are supposed to be cruise ships parked in the Great Sound so people can watch the races and the Bermuda Tourism Authority has talked to the cruise lines about laying on special America's Cup cruises during that time frame.

Well a few new hotels should be completed by then, Ariel Sands, Pink Beach, maybe the Ritz at Morgan Point. I bet 9 Beaches is rebuilt by that time. Bermuda will also charter a few cruise ships to house teams and visitors. It seems that the new AC Village to be placed in the southern corner of the South Basin will be built on fill that will come from the dredging of the Channels to make it possible for the Anthem of the Seas and other larger cruise ships to dock..

Wondering where they are going to house all the spectators?

They already are not expecting as many spectators as San Fran or Valencia. Rooms will be at a premium, even if the proposed hotels get built. The St Regis in St George's, The Ritz-Carlton at Morgan's Point will add less than 400 rooms to Bermuda's inventory in their first phases.

The Bermuda Tourism Authority is planning on having a couple of cruise ships anchored in the Great Sound for the races, but no official announcement.

Some Bermudians will be renting out their houses and taking a vacation when the America's Cup is held, to add a few more rooms.

"According to a statement from Minister of Public Works Patricia Gordon-Pamplin earlier this year, Morgan’s Point intends to construct two hotels, a boutique hotel in phase 1 consisting of 235 units and a luxury hotel with 416 keys in a later phase."

"Phase one of the (St Regis) development will cost $120 million, according to Tourism Minister Shawn Crockwell, and will include 122 rooms and eight residences."
