Why is this an upgrade or cost more?

On a Fantasy ship like the Sensation why is deck 7 Empress an upgrade over deck 6 Upper? Looking at deck plans, all the noise and activity on deck 8 would make me believe that it would be really noisy all the time. Dinning rooms, kitchens, etc.... yet it is shown as a better place to have your cabin, why?

There is an increase in price for each deck higher you go. It's your choice. We don't care what deck we're on but like when other cabins are above us.

Simply because some people have the mistaken idea that the higher the deck, the better the cabin. As you've noted, that certainly is NOT the case. There are lots of advantages to the lower decks, at least in my opinion, and I'd actually pay more to be on a nice quiet, convenient lower deck. (Don't tell Carnival,,,or they'll start charging more for the lower, quieter decks,,,,just like they started charging more for 4K cabins on "Spirit Class" ships, after they found out that they are excellent cabins in a lot of peoples opinion). ;)

When you charge more for something, people think it is better. Carnival's pricing strategy. Advertise low prices, and than charge you more once you are hooked.

Huh??? Every cruise line I know charges more for rooms higher up. How are they charging more for the same? It is a different room. Whether you think it is the same room or not is not the point.

It's because you are closer to the Atlantic deck. One flight of stairs are you are in the middle of everything on that deck. Just like inside Verandah cabins cost more.

I just came back from the Sensation deck 7 aft, right under the dining room. But never heard any noise coming from it. In May I was in the Valor on deck 6 above the casino there was music playing until 11pm, but didn't bother me. With higher decks you have a 50/50 chance gamble on noise, the way I see it.

I guess the point is for the most part for the majority of cruise lines. the closer to mid ship and the higher you go, you will pay more. Carnival is not unique in this approach. Whether the OP or anybody else thinks they are or are not a better room, is moot. The buying public at large does, and that is why they can charge more for those rooms.

I prefer lower decks because I take stairs everywhere. On our recent 10 day cruise on Princess, I only gained one pound and I ate like a horse! Stairs are my friend.

 

I agree that upper decks aren't always that great. Noise and movement are two of my complaints.

 

I agree with you abaout being on a lower deck and taking the stairs. The only time we take an elevator is to go to Lido for lunch. The rest of the time we're taking the stairs.

Having a stateroom on the empress or verandah decks will allow you to get off the ship first as long as you are self assist. So or is useful for those people who need to get back home quickly. That could also be why it's more expensive.

I totally agree with sky. I'd much rather have a lower, quieter deck for less money.

Since I normally travel solo with a walker, the more convenient the better. I've never had too much noise
