Winning a Celebrity Cruise

Sounds great, but we are getting nowhere in trying to book the cruise. Has anyone any experience in this?

Perhaps a little more information would help.

How did you win this cruise? How are you trying to book?

I would think the only way to book a cruise that you won would be to call Celebrity with the information.

CONGRATULATIONS !!

Sounds interesting...

How did you win it ? (thru Celebrity ?)

Maybe more details will get you the type of answers you need.

Cheers!

Lol, looks like DINAS and I were posting similar thoughts at the same time.

@Sloop-JohnB - That's pretty funny - almost the exact same post :)

I was wondering if they won this cruise in one of the bingo (or similar) tournaments on the ship. I have always heard of this prize, but have never heard of anyone winning it.

Lol, ya my thought too.

Might have me (and others here on CC ) make more of an effort to go to Bingo (we have never gone). Always sort of thought the advertised prizes were sort of unattainable

Cheers!

One of our Roll Call members on our Equinox sailing 2 weeks ago,won a cruise in the drawing in the casino on the final evening. She was the second name called, had to be present to win, the 1st person did not answer.

So yes, it does happen.

Without more information no one can possibly help. What contest? How are you trying to book? What have you already tried to do that failed? Etc etc etc.

Well, I really didn't expect any response from anyone except someone who actually won a cruise and who could tell me how he proceeded. What contest doesn't make any difference, does it? In fact my elderly in laws won the cruise in a drawing and asked for assistance in claiming the prize (both have difficulty on phones and no computer knowledge). If no one has actually won and gone through the process, then no one can tell me about the experience. But thanks for your interest. Asking was a long shot, I know.

Yes, the type of contest makes a huge diff. Was it run by Celebrity? A travel agent? A department store? How were they notified that they won? What are the Terms and Conditions ? What did they win? A three night cruise? A one week cruise? Many have won contests but we all entered differently. Do they have any paperwork?

Actually, the information people requested is vital to answering your question. We've all seen cases where contests have been operated by third party sources, sometimes travel agencies, sometimes time share offers, some times straight up scams. Other times people win cruises directly from the cruise line, and then it can happen either aboard ship or off.

I suspect given the requisite info you'd get your answer in a matter of hours on this board. I suspect given the way you put your question, you'll not get any help at all.

Actually, how it was won would help. If it was through a travel agency raffle they would have to contact the agency that offered it. If it's through the cruise line it will say on the certificate how to redeem it.

Be sure to read the fine print for deadlines, additional fees, etc.

I've "won" dozens of cruises, free time share vacations, trips to paradise, etc. through the years. I've never actually taken advantage of these "prizes" as they were all marketing gimmicks with no real value when the fine print is studied. I hope this is a valid offer. If so, just read the fine print and follow the instructions. Good luck.

I've won a trip before. Not a cruise but a all expense paid trip to Greece.

I won it on a radio show. I had to claim my prize certificate from the station in person and later book through the Greek Minister of Tourism. The way to do all this was laid out fairly clearly...

Do you have some sort of documentation saying your inlaws won? If so just call Celebrity.

There's a telephone scam around here that says "Congrats! You've won a trip to the Bahamas" Hopefully it's not something like that.

I guess I could have been clearer when I said Celebrity Cruise. They won it in a drawing on a Celebrity ship. Completely legitimate. Now, has anyone had experience in claiming such a prize? That's what I need to know. They've got a year to claim it and at their age, time is of the essence.

They should have a certificate number. All they should have to do is to Celebrity and book and reference that number. Celebrity should have the number and its value and be able to tell them if it covers the cruise they want to book. Should be pretty simple.

If they won through celb, contact Celeb, and no worries.

Have either your in-laws or yourself sailed Celebrity before?

If so, if I were you, I would call Captain's Club. They always seem to know the answers, or will get the answers, or will tell you who to call. I have always found Captain's Club to be highly reliable.

C'mon fellas. You're stating the obvious and obviously, that isn't working. Again, I need to hear from someone who has won a cruise or at least knows of someone who has won a cruise. I need to know time frames, success in getting the first choice, how the value is determined in case of a desire to upgrade, any info of a similar nature. I can and have read the instructions which are crystal clear. Unfortunately, Celebrity isn't responding.

So I came to CC in hopes of stumbling on someone who had been through the process. Strike three.

The details of what they won should be on the certificate for winning, upgrades they'll need to speak to Celebrity, it's really a bit like upgrading f you paid for a cabin, on one cruise I was one I was chatting to a bloke who had won a cruise and they simply told him no upgrades [that wasn't X by the way but another line].

Thank you, Elena. Finally some helpful advice. I did just that yesterday, but I was on hold for about twenty minutes and finally had to give up. I will try again, as you are correct in their giving good help. I feel sorry for my in laws who are most deserving of the prize, but getting a response from Celebrity has been impossible. The old folks' ardor is waning.

I did in fact win a river cruise several years ago, although not with Celebrity. After I submitted all the paperwork, I was given a phone number to call, and the rep simply asked which River and what time of year was my preference. I had to use the full value of the prize, around 3,000 on the cruise itself. I was not able to use it for excursions, tips, etc. I didn't ask about upgrades, as I was happy with what I won. When we returned, I received a 1099 for my tax return. I had no problems at all booking the cruise. Airfare was not included, and I had up to a year to take the cruise, so I picked a week when I could get decent airfare to Europe.

I'm not sure what you mean by "not responding." Did they hang up on you? Fail to return an e-mail?

A friend of mine won. What I said is exactly what they did.

The certificate has a value. The one my friend won was the same value as the cruise they were on (7 days inside). They were able to apply that value to whatever cruise they wanted.

You asked a question. You got an answer.

So what exact problem are you having. Does Celebrity not have a record? Are they saying you can't book a certain cruise. Exactly how is Celebrity not responding.

If you are treating Celebrity like you are here no wonder they are not responding. So you got the same answer as the instructions. What did you expect some magic formula different then the instructions.

Yup, makes a huge difference. Celebrity has in most cases nothing to do with the contest, only the product, so in all respects they can be of no help, only the venue thru which the product was awarded can give you answers.
