I'm back! And I have it Cheers Card!

We had saved for the Cheers package before they raised the price back up. After that I wasn't paying for it, and I'm glad too, we didn't even spend close to $200 on drinks paying for them individually, and we didn't counting them or anything either, we just aren't huge drinkers. Would we have had a few more if we had Cheers? Yes, I think so (mine would have been mocktails though, so still not worth it), but that would have been simply trying to "break even", so really it wouldn't have saved us anything at all. We won't purchase it unless they start offering cheaper packages or packages where I don't have to buy it if my husband wants it, he drinks more than I do by far when we cruise.

I don't understand the 'hassle and trouble" with BYOB on board.

For me, it's easy and 100% successful, so far.

I would like to try Cheers, just to try different drinks but the DH does not drink, at all, by choice, so it won't work for us.

On your upcoming cruises in April and November, he will not be required to purchase the AIBP if you choose to.

Well it's been a few years, and I've seen a major change on this board. The number one topic is no longer how to smuggle alcohol on board, but rather if the Cheers Card is worth the investment.

To me, it is brilliant of Carnival to finally implement this on their cruises. They know that people who heavily imbibe are going to smuggle in their own alcohol, so why not at least get a piece of the action and possibly make it up on others that are not going to make their daily 6 to 8 drink quota. For me the $56 is well worth the investment of not having to go through the stress and guilt of smuggling alcohol in your suitcase. It only takes six or eight drinks a day to break even, and you're allowed 15 a day. This includes nonalcoholic drinks also. Think about how much money you spend on the liquor that you smuggle in, the rum runners that you purchase, and the times you get caught and confiscated. Then figure in the cost of the sodas to mix them, or the soda card, or the hassle of going up on the Lido Deck to get the juice, and running back to your cabin every time you need to refill your alcohol. I usually spend at least that much just ordering drinks in the dining room, the casino, at the shows or the piano bar, where it just wouldn't be practical to smuggle your own booty in.

To me it is well worth it to know exactly how much my bar tab is going to be, and relax and be served. Let Carnival keep count. It's better than getting an extra thousand dollars tacked onto your tab at the end of the cruise. Those who do not drink six or eight drinks a day, just purchase your drinks separately.

We will be sailing on the Paradise on January 29, my second cruise during a Super Bowl. It will be great to relax, and have a cocktail wherever I want, whatever I want, guilt free.

This is our 3rd cruise doing Cheers, purchased $900 gift cards for $810 through Verizon, just want to know I won't owe anything :) Works for us:D

Just out of curiosity... Does the 15 drink limit include NON ALCOHOLIC frozen drinks? Over on another forums, members were sure they counted... However a link posted on this forum of the rules says.. "Program allows for unlimited soda and non-alcoholic frozen cocktails."

Curious of those who have done the plan, and what they experienced?

The 15 limit is just for drinks with alcohol in them... its unlimited for soda and non-alcohol drinks

Yeah, I had a good laugh at the idea of feeling "stress and guilt" about smuggling alcohol onboard. That's ridiculous.

My two cents: if Carnival would do away with the rule that if one person in the stateroom gets the package then everybody has to get the package, then I'd be all over it. I don't have a problem knocking back several beers over the course of the day with two or three cocktails as well. My wife, on the other hand, doesn't even come close to breaking even. So I'd essentially be drinking for two just to break even.

Until that changes, we'll continue smuggling.

Each person has to make his or her own ethical decisions, but I would bet those who are comfortable with smuggling would also be comfortable with buying one Cheers card (if that were allowed) and having more than one person drink on it

There is no tax...it is $49.95 per day plus 15% gratuity x 7.....I come up with $402.08

I disagree, There are allot of cases where one person likes a couple of drinks and the other person does not. In my case my wife might enjoy the cheers program, and I am not into drinking. So even if she alone was able to buy the package, I still am not into drinking(I like ice tea) and would have no need to piggy-back off of her package. I agree with a previous poster, I think smaller packages would eliminate the need to bring your own. From a non drinkers point of view 15 drinks a day for 7 days seems like allot, but maybe they don't put allot of alcohol in each drink.

My big concern with this program would be the port days. I can imagine making it worthwhile on sea days, but if I'm off the boat for most of the day, getting to enough in could get interesting. I do have a question about it though? Do you have to buy it the first day, or can you buy it on day 2 or 3, and only pay for the remaining days of the cruise? Not sure I would do that, just curious.

I keep going back and forth about if it would be worth it for my upcoming cruise.... There are only two sea days, and I usually get tired of drinking after a couple of days lol

You can buy the package on the first or second day of your cruise, ccartman2. I have purchased the Cheers twice. The first time it worked out because we only got to go to one port. The second time I think we pretty much broke even.

One tip I can give you is on port days, order beer and ask them not to open it, you can have them iced down in your cabin.

My upcoming cruise is port intensive, so not purchasing.

I too am curious. If I wait and buy it the morning of the second day, am I charged the full amount or just the remaining days of the cruise. I am on the 5 day Victory, so if we buy the package the morning after sail away, is it prorated for four days instead of five?

Yes, you would pay for 4 days not 5

The Carnival site explanation is confusing as it states that no matter when Cheers is purchased, the full price is charged which makes no sense. I can see purchasing it after the ship sails and out of US waters to save the sales tax, but, if I purchase it the following morning, after the 6AM cutoff/beginning, charging me for a whole day that I did not use is not fair either. Have you done this yourself?
