Doubtful it will be the same officers and crew.

Florentina is already gone. (LOVE HER!)

Some will stay, but there are vacations and changes to other ships.

There are so many wonderful NCL folks, you will not be disappointed.

Thanks for the info, Judy. Yes, I know there are many wonderful NCL officers and crew members. We have been lucky enough to be in suites (3 Haven) on our last 8 cruises and have met many of the officers & crew.

 

It was only on our last cruise, May 31st of 2014 on the Jewel, that we were really disappointed in our butler and also the concierge. They both were way below expectations (and we are not very demanding or needy). Even the HD wasn't quite as good or personable as the others we have met on past cruises.

 

At the Captain's cocktail party, Captain Kenneth Harstrom introduced us to Niklas Persson who had just come onboard to start his new job as Captain of the Jewel on the next cruise out of Seattle. We had some great conversation with him and would love to see him as Captain on our May 7th cruise on the Jewel.

 

I'll check back as we get closer to our cruise to see the changes in staffing.

I am sorry to hear your butler and concierge were substandard. We had Virginia as our concierge and she was great! So helpful and available. It was funny, on embarkation day when we first met her I was aware it was her last week and I asked her if she was excited for vacation. She was taken aback, like, how the heck did I know that. lol. Our butler was also wonderful. Roland and he was so fun! When he got off the ship in Ketchikan he bought gluten free cookies for one of our group that requested gluten free meals. That was very nice of him! We have been in suites 3 times (4 times soon) and 2 of the 3 concierges were steller. Anything you needed and they will take care of it. Our butler experiences have been better each time. None were bad and we didn't use our first one at all so we can't really judge him fairly. We are learning to utilize our butler. It takes some adjustment to pretend you are a rich person for a week (or in our upcoming case 9 days) and ask things of others that you are accustomed to doing yourself.

 

Maybe we will get lucky and Virginia will be back aboard by the time of our cruise. There are a couple other crew members that were on our cruise last year that we are looking forward to seeing again this year. We are going to bring pics with us to try and remind them as they have seen thousands of people over the last year. If they don't remember us we will not take offense and will still enjoy seeing them again.

If you have never met Hal Broomes, make it a point to do so.

We have done a gazillion NCL cruises and Hal is one of our very, very, very favorite officers. We were sad when we cruised on the Jewel in December & learned he was on vacation.

Virginia is an awesome concierge.

She can not do enough for you.

David Contreras is still my favorite concierge, but the others we've had have been amazing also.

 

Paulo is an awesome chef who caters to individual needs.

Adolph and Norman are always around to help you when needed.

 

I love this ship and Houston will miss her after a too short stay.

We welcome the Jade though!

We will help bring the Jade from Barcelona to Houston in October.

Alain has not been on vacation very long.

I think he will return to the Dawn, but soon???

He was our HD in December and I think he was on the Dawn in January.

 

He is a wonderful HD - one of the very best.

I saw a few posts back that someone posted a partial list of officers for an upcoming cruise, in May I think it was. How do they know this? Is there a website or something I can watch that has all of that listed.

 

The ships normally have a board with pictures and names of officers. CC people copy that and post it here. Others may stay in contact with some of the officers andknow where they are and when they go on vacation. I know of no other sources for that information.

 

It is best to check this thread shortly before your cruise to see if someone has posted recently. There still could be changes because all the officers have various lengths of service and vacations.

I agree. He is one of the best. Very approachable and really get to know the passengers. We sailed with him for 19 days in April and was hoping he would be on our next April repo.

Having sailed with him a half dozen times I hate the way he barks at the crew. :o

 

I have written to him with no reply on this mater .:(

 

Ship morale is low when he is in charge . You will not hear many crew members singing as they do their job when he is around .

Scrolled back and it's been quite awhile since we had an update. Trust someone here will know when Jenny Lim and Carlos Zarate are scheduled to return as HD and concierge, respectively?

 

Also is Mohammed Hassan still on Gem as F & B Dir.?

 

Any further updates?

 

Also does anyone know the current CD and entertainment roster such as reggae band?

 

Interested in end of Apr. in case that matters and I do know entertainment in particular can change.
