tgg Posted January 19, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 19, 2015 (edited) I called Seabourn today, ready to book a 14 day April Quest cruise. This would have been our first cruise with Seabourn after sailing with Azamara and Oceania. I was willing to book a suite guarantee with every uncertainty that entails. What surprised me was being told that there are some suites with queen beds that cannot be made up as two twins. Were we given one of these suites, I was told, we would not be able to move to a twin-bedded suite. For us this was a dealbreaker. I'm just wondering if there are many suites on the Quest with these solid queen beds. Edited January 19, 2015 by tgg

There certainly are a few suites in the little ships, in adjoining suites, but as far as I know none in the new ships, which includes Quest of course. Anyone know different? markham Posted January 20, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 20, 2015 This is news to me too. Suspect someone is mistaken since the booking form asks whether suite setup should be twin or queen beds. Happy sailing!
Thecat123 Posted January 20, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 20, 2015 We were in cabin 505 (I think) and the beds split Jan 2014
lincslady Posted January 20, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 20, 2015 Just noticed you spoke to Seabourn itself, not an Agent. They are not always super-efficient; strongly suggest you call again or email, saying it is Quest you want to sail on, and asking them to specify which if any suites cannot be made into twins. Then please come back and let the rest of us know!

markham Posted January 20, 2015 #7 Share Posted January 20, 2015 ... and why would anyone discuss the finer details of Seabourn ships and/or book with Seabourn when there are specialist TAs who know the ships best- apart from Seabourn's frequent passengers, that is. Happy sailing!
markham Posted January 20, 2015 #8 Share Posted January 20, 2015 Mrs Waldo, I attended a party on Odyssey in November and it was in one of the Owner's Suites. The couple who hosted were not a "couple" so to speak and they definitely had separate beds. It makes no sense for Seabourn to build new ships, Odyssey, Sojourn and Quest, and limit their customers' options in terms of bed arrangements. Happy sailing! Mr Luxury Posted January 20, 2015 #9 Share Posted January 20, 2015 I think that all suites on the newer ships have beds that can be conformed to twin beds. Surely Seabourn would be shooting themselves in the foot if they could only sell a double bed that could not be split.
Ravenscroft Posted January 20, 2015 #10 Share Posted January 20, 2015 The Seabourn website states, on the individual deck plans, that wheelchair accessible suites on SOJOURN and QUEST on decks 5 to 7 - maybe others but I didn't check higher decks - do not have the option to split the bed into twins. I didn't see the same note on the Odyssey deck plan? Stateroom Symbol Legend Wheelchair Accessible Suites. Feature a queen-size bed (no twin option). Ravenscroft Posted January 20, 2015 #12 Share Posted January 20, 2015 Interesting - no mention of this in the printed brochure we have for next year. It seems strange that the deck plans for Odyssey appear to be different in this respect too. I only knew about it on the website because prior to our GTY suite allocation on a world cruise segment in March, I'd studied the deck plans on the website intently and noticed that some suites only had a queen bed with no option for twin. wripro Posted January 20, 2015 #13 Share Posted January 20, 2015 I agree with Markham. Sometimes the reps you get on the phone know very little about the line. Use a qualified TA and you will get all the correct answers.

MrsWaldo Posted January 20, 2015 #15 Share Posted January 20, 2015 Mr Luxury, Ours in 2013, 800 on the Sojourn definitely did not split… I even went looking for the join on the base…. If it could have been it would have been…. I spent the week sharing with my daughter
rockdoctor Posted January 20, 2015 #16 Share Posted January 20, 2015 I think that all the old R ships have suites with only Queen Beds. But then there are only 10 suites to a ship.

I like the option of twin beds in case the wife makes a move for me in the Queen bed. Edited January 20, 2015 by Mr Luxury
tgg Posted January 20, 2015 Author #19 Share Posted January 20, 2015 My travel agent has assured me that all the available suites can be configured with two beds. On that basis, I've gone ahead with our booking of a balcony guarantee. It will be interesting to see where we wind up. She said that the only problem with switching to Seabourn is that we will never want to sail with another cruise line. (Nice problem to have, yes?) lincslady Posted January 21, 2015 #20 Share Posted January 21, 2015 I am totally confused on this subject now, as I have a lorra lorra days on SB, and thought I knew the things which one needs to know. Just looked at the deck plans on the web, and it would appear that on Sojourn and Quest all the handicapped suites have a queen bed only (not very logical, I would have thought for a handicapped person who one might expect to be happier in their own bed!) but the inference is that all others can be split. The Odyssey seems to be all beds splittable. When will SB learn to make things clear? On a different topic, does anyone remember the ad which suggests you can have a 7 course dinner at midnight in your suite?? Don't think that would work out too well. Mr Luxury Posted January 21, 2015 #21 Share Posted January 21, 2015 Some South American groups seem to try to have the seven course deal from the room service menu, well after midnight. Two burgers two pizzas and three ice creams would qualify!

And yes, the Herald in our suite during the Christmas cruise on Sojourn had that ad in it. In a moment of boredom in East London, where it rained all day and was freezing cold, I took it upon myself to consult the room service menu and decide exactly how I could make the selection into a 7 course dinner, should I want to dine at midnight. I struggled ! :D
