Texasgalsa Posted January 31, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 31, 2015 We will be on the Valor in March and I'm debating on changing to a balcony room... I want the best views possible. So which side of the ship should we stay on? Thanks in advance for the help!
jaded_reckless Posted January 31, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 31, 2015 It depends on the ports you're visiting.... and possible tendering as well. and do you want island or pier/ pier runner views haha

Namelocg Posted January 31, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 31, 2015 The ocean looks the same from either side of the ship, lots and lots of water, lol!! If you are concerned about what you will see when docked in a port it just depends on whether the ship pulls in forward or turns around and backs in.. how they decide is any ones guess. Just pick the cabin that you like best.
Texasgalsa Posted January 31, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted January 31, 2015 We are going to St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and St. Maarten.... Not sure exactly what we will be looking at, we just want nice views from our room while we are at each port. : )

I honestly cannot remember about the others
Rena921 Posted January 31, 2015 #7 Share Posted January 31, 2015 You have a 50/50 shot of getting a port view. Sometimes they back in. Sometimes they pull straight in. It all depends. Either side is fine, as the scenery is gorgeous regardless.

Texasgalsa Posted January 31, 2015 Author #10 Share Posted January 31, 2015 Ok... Thanks guys! Another question, is anyone familiar with the Spa deck? Was looking at room 1118. Is this a good deck to room on?

oceanmom62 Posted January 31, 2015 #12 Share Posted January 31, 2015 I like to be on the port side of the ship. We always get a balcony and I let to use room service for breakfast. I eat on the balcony and enjoy the sunrise. We usually are facing the port when we dock but that's not a guarantee.

Texasgalsa Posted January 31, 2015 Author #14 Share Posted January 31, 2015 I just called to change my room. Booked cabin 8384 (verandah deck) :)
springs741 Posted January 31, 2015 #15 Share Posted January 31, 2015 Not a bad location. Should be limited foot traffic and you are under a dining area near the deli rather than under a pool deck which is very noisy when they drag the chairs across the deck. amyh13 Posted January 31, 2015 #16 Share Posted January 31, 2015 We were port for one trip to St. Thomas and St. Martin and Starboard for another. Port was ocean/island view, starboard was pier/industrial views. We were on two different cruiselines and they both pulled in the same way. Needless to say, I preferred port. OCruisers Posted January 31, 2015 #17 Share Posted January 31, 2015 There is never any real way to absolutely know in advance how your ship will be docked so just pick a cabin that suits you! ;) LuLu
sg4crzn Posted February 1, 2015 #18 Share Posted February 1, 2015 For me, I prefer port side so I can hopefully catch the sun rise while drinking my coffee on the balcony. On the return to port you will have sunsets.

I was in 1115 on the Conquest - it was fabulous! Very quiet - but best of all - it had a sliding glass door to the balcony. One thing on some of the Spa decks - they didn't have a roof over the balcony. Didn't bother us because it hardly rained at all.
Pixelate Posted February 1, 2015 #21 Share Posted February 1, 2015 On another cruise line, I always book the port side because the carpeting is red. :D

I get up early, and from Barbados back, you are heading north or northwest. That means the islands are on the starboard as you sail in. Get the first view of the Pitons at about 6:15! mek Posted February 1, 2015 #23 Share Posted February 1, 2015 (edited) IMHO, in the Caribbean it really depends if you want morning or afternoon sun on your balcony on the sea days. Study your itinerary and figure out which is more important to you. Edited February 1, 2015 by mek
JAGR Posted February 1, 2015 #24 Share Posted February 1, 2015 IMHO, in the Caribbean it really depends if you want morning or afternoon sun on your balcony on the sea days. Study your itinerary and figure out which is more important to you. His cruise is one sea day only from St. Thomas to Barbados. Port times are 8-5 on almost all the ports, so not really the issue on this, Mek.
RANCHOVISTA Posted February 1, 2015 #25 Share Posted February 1, 2015 It's been my experience that you stay with the odd number cabins (starboard), because the whale watching is better on the starboard side of the ship.
