S1 or CS on Eclipse?

My viewpoint is narrower. We will likely never book as Many RS or PH as Curt and Jenna. For our last four booking we were choosing between CS and SS and AQ. When it comes down to it, we will likely upgrade with the right price. For us it is usually CS possibly without pkg or SS with it.

From that view, the choice is just a little easier to upgrade with it. That's all, any benefit they can give that doesn't cost them anything seems like a good idea from a business point of view to me. There seems to be plenty of difference between the stateroom benefits even with this. From my conversations in MC, it seemed many upper suite upgrades were made on a price basis.

For Us personally the edge to CS is less appealing without a package. I know myself well enough to know I would be dropping by MC.

We are in CS at the end of year, with a package, so I can check out how that compares to our RS without, and how often I use it. Who knows maybe I would drink twice as much and would see it differently.

Now where was that spa Kieth Richards used to go to dry out? Lol

Wow...Jenna...what ability to purchase Internet at reasonable rates? I must have missed something.

This is your penalty for not being willing to book the CS upfront. Book it upfront and the package costs 11.80 / day to upgrade from Classic to Premium. Wait to upgrade until last minute and you get the CS without the package UNLESS your booking was onboard, which then I believe your package would move with you except if the price you upgrade with is a special promo price.

Check out the new advertised internet rates:

We booked our CS for this coming May in March last year so as soon as it was released. We did not, therefore, receive the drinks page BUT based upon the price when I looked yesterday, we paid £1,000 pp less than the current price so are happy bunnies. We also received $350 obc and persuaded our TA to include parking.

Our alcohol intake is modest and we will use MC for some drinks but will still be happy to buy drinks elsewhere.

It seems to be that others may feel a little miffed that RS gets a premium drinks package plus limited bar set up whilst CS gets nothing unless you book when 123 offer on.

I cannot compare the difference between CS and RS and PH four cruise as RH and PH sold out.

I think there is no right or wrong answer here. It`s all about choices. I am looking at Alaska cruises for this summer. Sky suite is $5000. for 2 people. RS is $13,000 for 2. For $8000 difference MC would have to offer a lot. We go to Vegas and spend that amount, so one of these years we will cancel Vegas trip and do RS instead. These prices I mention are for May cruises. July and August will be more.

I guess I need to use more emoticons. I am a overall happy customer for the suite changes. I am not actually miffed.

Yes I am the customer, but from a business owners perspective I always chose to give more if it cost me little. Yes I am a business owner.

I can see all your points that to keep something from CS that would be more demarcation. However I still believe the free internet extra boozy stuff and much nicer suite do that pretty well.

Agreed Maggie I wasn't suggesting anything was right or wrong. It was a point I made base on my experience and thoughts on choices I may be faced with in the future.

Jenna...I am unsure what penalty you are referring to. The bookings I have made that I gave up drink package for lower rate were made on board.

The CS I am In next does already have a premium drink package with it. So I have no upcoming penalties that I am aware of. I did give up a CS with package for RS without recently and this is the experience I was referring to. The one I still owe you a bottle of wine for assisting me with.

If you are saying by giving up a package with an SS for a CS without comes with a penalty..Yes..You could call that a penality. It makes the SS more attractive then it otherwise would be. This is my point.

Of course with the heavy bookings for those upper suites and pricing to go with it, I can also see no changes are likely.

Thanks for sharing your counter points of view with me everyone.

This is the penalty I mean. If you book a SS hoping the CS comes down in price for a later upgrade, and it does but as a promo fare, the "penalty" you get for waiting to upgrade is the high possibility of no drink package for the "last minute" upgrade a better fare. If you book the CS at the prevailing rate earlier, you'll get the package for that Cabin too. I was just being clear, that it's not "SS with package vs CS without" in every circumstance. Just the one described here that can (but not always) cause the loss of the perks, which in this case everyone assumes is the drink package.

Yes absolutely. We have two future CS with and future Ss with. So who knows how future cookies may crumble. Sales are strong, it will be interesing to see what upgrade landscape looks like in the future. It may have completely changed.

If your are Elite you get 30% off the unlimited internet cost shown above. I don't know what you get if Elite+.

Even better for us, and more reason to stay in the CS (or maybe SS) over the RS on M-Class for a long cruise with a big price difference. If you can buy the perks individually, choosing the ones you want, for less than the cost of the cabin that comes with them, there isn't as much incentive.

The differences become the cabin itself. As I've said a number of times, we like the CS just fine on M-Class. We've spent 34 in a CS and 21 in an RS (with 14 more next week). We do like the balcony and bigger bathroom a little more, but like the living room and especially the closet set-up better on the CS.

I agree that it is a difficult call between the CS and RS on an M-class ship. Both have positives. Emotionally, I prefer the CS and the economics favour the CS but, in our experience, the "intangibles" are better with the RS and they tug on the heart strings as well. However, as our next cruise is likely to be our last on a M-class ship in the foreseeable future [we expect it to be our last adventurous cruise and there is no sign of the M-class returning to long Caribbean cruises] it is all rather academic.

There certainly feels like there is prioritizing of intangibles between RS and CS but Celebrity would never or up unlikely ad,it it. But when you're aboard for a 36 day cruise with friends (who aren't in suites) it's so negligible to matter to us. Face time, familiarity and knowing what the possibilities are make up for it for us, even if we need to ask.

The closet is a big deal to Dee and to a lesser extent to me. We like being able to both get to it at the same time in the rush to prep for dinner, not block access to the bathroom, not have one persons clothes pushed to the back (mine seem to be the ones that end up in the black hole). There is actually plenty of storage in a CS and even with the coat closet in the RS the CS has better hanging space for us.

We have quite a mix of cabins booked across M and S class however, so we get to try them all eventually. We've been choosing on factors from itinerary, length of sailing, ship, and subjective value. The balcony size benefit of the RS is less important on a cruise with less kids where we're sightseeing and it spending as much time there but on a Panama Canal cruise the right "aft" balcony with lots of sea days is totally indulgent. On S class the nod goes to RS with a small price different or CS when it works for a shorter trip with family when we'll never eat by ourselves in the cabin, only entertain a handful and the price difference is higher.

It's great to have choices.

Happy sailing,

Jenna

I have been following this post closely (as I'm the OP). It always amazes me on CC how far off on a tangent discussions can go. (another board I frequent has broken out into a political argument) Sometimes I find myself more confused than when I originally asked the question! I gotta say this one has been very informative and helpful. Well actually it makes me want to be in the SS1 AND the CS! But anyway, thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and preferences, I thoroughly enjoy reading them.

Sometimes people book both and then cancel as soon as they know, or at final payment. Let us know how you enjoyed your choice.

We just got off the Constellation yesterday, and Leo (our fabulous Michael's Club Concierge) walked us right to the customs agent at the pier in Fort Lauderdale past all of the long lines. We saved tons of time doing this.

This did not happen on the Eclipse on the 15th. It wasn't a problem as we were disembarking at Miami and both times we did this, there were only tiny queues.

We also didn't get the welcome email although the room was allocated which we were on the Reflection 21-28 Feb.

Well maybe it wasn't a change but a service given occasionally. Didn't happen for us either for a very long que.

Was Lisa your Concierge? She left summit when I docked there in January, and thought she said she was moving to Eclipse.

She was relatively new in the Concierge position when she left.

Have you sailed recently? The procedure seems to be new from February this year, I thought i recall your last sailgib to be last year some time, when it wasn't available.

As to Gordon's issue, not sure how it happened it wasn't done. The perk is a Michaels' Club perk, and not necessarily one for SkySuites, in case that was also part of the issue.

No it was Fabian. We were the only ones he met on embarking from memory as we were first on. All others were brought round by other staff. He was in Michael's as we left but certainly did not escort us or any of the other guests who were waiting there of the ship.

How bout regarding the CS on M class ships... Is there a balcony privacy issue? It seems that since they are on that bubble, the balcony is in plain sight of all other balconies. I do like a very private balcony.

How long did it take you from the time you left MC until you got through customs? We are trying to decide when to have a car service pick us up after a future cruise. Were you able to get off when you wanted or were you assigned a time? Thanks

If you disembark in FL and have GOES, there is a separate line. We asked an agent if it even existed and she pointed it out. I don't recall if there was a sign, but it saved us dragging luggage through the regular conga line and there were only 5 people ahead of us when we entered the queue. We left the ship at 9 and I think we were through customs about 15 minutes later and this was without MC help.

Jenna, thanks for the great pix. What cabin was that?

Very little privacy on the balcony of a CS on M-class, but the balconies did make the rooms much more private becaus the end screen blocks the room.

9299 on Eclipse.

Nice to hear there is a GOES line in FLL even though I have no cruises returning there soon.
