Just put a deposit on a "Dancing with the Stars" cruise...Question, if you have been on one of these in the past, were the DWTS activities in ADDITION to all the regular activities on the ship (such as theater shows, live music around the ship, BB King's club, etc) or INSTEAD of these?

Thanks!

Yes the DWTS is in addition to regular shows. One of the CC members on our cruise went on to win on our cruise, but lost out on a later cruise. All the CC members from our roll call used to go and watch to cheer her on to vote for her by giving the loudest applause. Enjoy your cruise & the shows.

The DWTS classes are taught by members of the ship's dance company. One dance, usually fox trot, samba, salsa, waltz, etc. will be taught at each session. Then, there will be an elimination session following the class where the best male and best female dancer are chosen and then the finalist for that dance will be chosen. The finalist from each dance lesson will be paired with one of the show dancers for the final rehearsals and the final dance-off which will be held at the end of the cruise, usually the last sea day or last evening.

You don't need to be an experienced dancer to compete. Just go with the flow and have fun. You might even win. I won the waltz on my Noordam cruise two years ago but was easily eclipsed by the young woman who danced the samba. She was great!

We were on the January 2014 DWTS finals and it was a blast. They had competition in the afternoon for the 16 winners from the H/A fleet culminating with three in the finals at an evening performance. Some of the regular shows were replaced with specials. One night the DWTS pros and stars did the show and it was fantastic. They also had a style show poolside.

Noticed you are from Wynne, Arkansas, we live in Hot Springs Village, Ar which is about 30 miles west of Little Rock.

Also, we have started a Roll Call for the 1/10/16 cruise.

They are mostly "in addition to" but on my January 2014 DWTS cruise there were 2 nights that the regular entertainment was NOT held, in favor of DWTS stuff. One night it was a show where some of the DWTS stars were present. Then on the final night there was no show - instead the passengers competing danced. I felt having 2 out of 7 nights deleted in favor of DWTS was too much, and I won't do another one.

  • 2 weeks later...

It is fun to go and watch rehearsals even if you are not participating! They were more fun that the contest - imo. On our cruises, the contests did not interfere or replace anything and were usually later in the afternoon so we would get ready for dinner, go to the contest, then have some liquid libations before early dinner. The 'finals' were usually the evening performance in the main show room - only 'replacement' we saw.

Enjoy.

This is the finals for the 2015 year so there will be one night where the pros and the stars put on the evening show. At least that is what they did on the Jan 2014 finals cruise. It was fantastic.

We did DWTS Finale for 2014 on Westerdam! The Pros and HAL Dancers show was absolutely AWESOME! They had two shows for this depending on Dining Time. The elimination shows were terrific but plan on getting there early to get a good Seat!

The Finale on the last night was very good, too, but not everyone could get into the Show Lounge! We were able to get what seemed to be the last two seats and they were up in the nosebleeds by a pole. We left Dinner and got to the Show Lounge at 8:20 for the only show at 9:30. They setup a big screen in the Queens Lounge for overflow and had the show aired on TV in the rooms. This, to us, was the only negative to the whole thing! Otherwise, we had a great time!

Have fun!:)
