Princess @ Sea Messenger

I used the Messenger app on the Regal in April and was able to add my wife's and friends' code into the app's address book & add their names instead of having to remember their code. :)

Yeah, once I got the code, I was able to use their name. But I had to get the code before I could contact anyone but my husband.

Here's the link for the app in iTunes

I just typed in Princess Cruise line. Then it popped right up. Used it on the

Golden worked great. Could keep up with the patter and my onboard account. Only thing was when texting you don't have a ring tone to let you know you have a text.

I think the no ringtone is by design. Could you imagine a cruise where the ringtones go off all over the place?

Um ... courteous people could set their phones to vibrate?

Regardless, in the original princess email announcement, they said:

"Princess@Sea messenger will be available for download from November 1, 2014. Messaging functionality will be available in Princess@Sea without downloading the app; however, notifications will not be displayed on the home screen or notification area."

To me this certainly sounds like notifications are intended;

and available with the app.

Notifications being displayed is not the same as a beep or vibration.

One would have to look often at the screen to see if there is a notification.

Starting with android 4.4, it's possible for an app to register to receive

notifications, and do something with them.

There are quite a few which tickle the notification led in various ways.

Assuming the default android notifications are not acceptable,

there are apps like this:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bestringtonesapps.notificationsounds

...which can make whatever sound you would like for a notification.

I'm sure someone somewhere would think it was wildly clever if

their phone played the love boat theme every time they got a message.

Maybe using horns. People seem to like that.

Personally, I'd be happy with a non-intrusive vibrate.

Thanks for this. I selected the bell, it's not loud and sounds like a ship's bell :)

I used the Princess@Sea browser version and was a little disappointed with it. Some of the info was incomplete or incorrect. For example using the itinerary section to check on which nights were formal dress didn't show up correctly until a day or 2 before those days. Before that they all showed as "Smart Casual". Also some of the listings for when some football games would be on only showed "Team" for the team name while the printed "Patter" version was correct.

Also a TV Guide section would be nice.

I DID like where I could check on my shipboard account. A lot easier than printing out a paper version periodically.
