Chair hog solution?

Unless you are sitting by yourself there are always your travel companions available to tell someone that your chair is taken...unless your group feels it necessary to travel en-mass to the bar or the restrooms. And its usually very easy to tell if someone is in the pool since they usually leave their shoes, and a robe, and a book, and some sunscreen on their chair.

Chair hogs are simply those folks or group of folks who use a towel to "save" a chair to be used at some unspecified time later in the day. These are the chairs that people clear and use for themselves. As others have said it is easy-peasy to distinguish between the two types. And going to "lunch" is not an excuse for a group to just leave their towels. They should, out of consideration, vacate the chairs and take their chances when they come back from other activities....that is just courtesy and common sense.

Just wondering, since there are so many of you that are experts in chair hogging, this would be a good place to ask. I have a number of questions...

Is there a better spot to have your chair? First, second row? Are the sun rays more potent, or is there benefits to being in the middle of the row vs the aisle?

I'm also curious to know, for those that move towels from people who went to get a drink, go to the bathroom, go check on their kids, etc for 20, 30 mins that it may take and you decide on your own to to be the towel police and move a towel... what do you do during that time? Do you just stand there lurking and waiting?

Just wondering, since there are so many of you that are experts in chair hogging, this would be a good place to ask. I have a number of questions... You, too, can be an expert! Just follow some basic rules plastered on the pool deck, the big screen and the daily Fun Times! Easiest expert certification in the world, right here, folks!

Is there a better spot to have your chair? First, second row? Are the sun rays more potent, or is there benefits to being in the middle of the row vs the aisle? Better, would be subjective, I suppose, but has nothing to do with being certified as a NON-chair hogging expert! This must be in another class or non-listed information section!

Do you just stand there lurking and waiting? If you'd read the thread, you'd already have these answers. This could be a clue into why you're not yet an expert on the rules of chair hogging!

Seriously, if you'd read the thread, you'd see that no one moves anything from someone who's using the chair or actually just gone for twenty minutes and no one is standing around with a stop watch. Once again, the only people having things moved are those that stumble up at 6am to slap down a towel "in case" they may want to use a chair at some point during the day or those that come out for an hour and then wander off for four hours to go do something else and think "their" chair should still be there if/when they decide they might want to come back to the pool deck. This isn't rocket science, people. And my guess is that the only people offended are those that do the very things that chair hogs are named for. ;)

Legal ramifications aside. When you want to push people around and throw belongings overboard , you have no idea how crazy an SOB the person you are about to screw with is .

Huge difference between giving things to a carnival employee or in a chair versus throwing them overboard. People who hurt or try to hurt people, go to jail. We are adults not little kids bullying each other on the playground.

Actually I didn't say I was using 12 seats. 2 wicker chairs, a loveseat and 2 loungers. That's room for 6....sort of if you consider the loveseat for 2. And I said at least 4-5 of us were there all the time. Many times more and never were any of the seats empty for more than 30 min. The reality is sometimes one wicker chair was open and occasionally one person was on the loveseat instead of 2. I think it's crazy that people would even notice this (not by the pool) much less freak out about it. But, whatever.

Ah, I see what you are saying, you used less than 12 seats for 12 people. I misunderstood it. I guess I'll have to take back calling you a hog. Sorry. :o

Not you then, but the people who take up 2 chairs for themselves, then save some for other members of their party who may or may not ever come back are the worst offenders. I've seen chairs held for hours for little kids in the pool or worse, just to hold stuff. I think that is very discourteous, especially when these people can see others walking around looking for a seat.

No worries :) We really thought we were being quite reasonable and it was hysterical/disturbing when that couple decided to sit in our circle and glare at us! As others have said there is a difference between a row of empty loungers and an empty chair here and there in the middle of a group!

I read the thread and don't know what to think other than I wouldn't want to meet some of the posters here in a dark ally. It becomes very clear that you folks are very passionate and emotional of the subject, which is interesting to me because Sally never has a problem getting us chairs or holding mine while I go workout in the gym. Maybe its location? You imply the thread is clear, but there are some questionable suggestions of retaliation.

A better response might be explaining the rules instead of implying that those who are questioning the discussion are likely the main contributers to the problem. That doesn't help your cause.

Chill out people. It's just a chair. People are so vicious with their words on this forum. Can't we all just get along? I thought vacations were for relaxing and having fun. Be considerate to others, not only with your words on here, but your actions when your on your cruise too!

None of my replies have any questionable suggestions of retaliation because that's not my style. I get the feeling that you're old enough to know that those who make those comments are the people you actually have to worry least about in real life situations.

I'm glad you've never had troubles with hoggers, but I do move things to be near my kids in the pool. That is my responsibility and I take it seriously. I can't let a flip flop in a "saved" chair keep me from watching my kids. I AM passionate about them and their safety, as well as the comfort of other cruisers around my children. :)

For me, personally, I wish the lines would do a better job of policing hoggers for this very reason. Parents shouldn't have to wander around to find a chair when there's 27 around the pool with magazines in them or a back flipped up. The employees of the cruise lines SHOULD take care of this, but, for now, they don't.

But what happens when the sun moves to a different part of the ship and I want to follow it? If I'm a Diamond cruiser, do I get to unseat someone?

Nope, but you can find an open seat that doesn't have a name on it wherever that may be. Don't be greedy. You were the one that picked your seat to start wih.

I'm curious about this myself. How can a Carnival towel be taken off the ship without being purchased in the ship store? If they are personal towels, isn't that wrong? We haven't been on Carnival in a while, so I must be missing something.

Burt

Maybe i'm the one missing something on here I took what they said as a joke!

Ok folks - there has been an evolution in the chair hogging situation - it has evolved into TABLE hogging :eek:

No lie , I wish I had thought to take a picture, but on a past cruise people would stake out a table on the pool deck with their towel draped across it, and various accoutrements !!

I guess they wanted a prime spot to play cards all day :(

Only the blue ones with the Carnival logo, and they clearly state that passengers will be charged if the same number in the room aren't left in the room upon debarkation. People still lug them to the pool, even though the white ones work fine and there's no charge if those are not the same count. There's one large, blue beach towel for each person in the room (that's been our experience, anyway). We usually never use them and just take a large white one to the beach and to the pool.

And I don't know about the rum runners. I'm sure if they're berated enough all rum runners would become about as obsolete as the chair hogs!! (or not! lol) :D:D:D

I will be bringing plain towel for pool after my room towel was stolen ( everything else left) when I literally walked to the pool put my feet in and walked back to sit. I went to guest services and they made a note of it and I wasn't charged thankfully....I did however buy a nice yellow one to bring home!

I'm sorry your towel was stolen. Glad Carnival did the right thing by not charging you, too!

I can't imagine stealing someone's things, especially knowing they may be charged extra for them. That's not part of my world.

If you ever need extra towels for the pool (besides your nice yellow one!), try to always take the large white ones from your bathroom or ask the steward for extras. They'll provide them and there's no charge for those.

Thanks for the idea, I was going to pack my own. I don't know why it didnt occurr to me to get extra from the steward until I read your post !

I was just playing devil's advocate. [emoji33]

What's sad is this would come up as an added problem.

I avoid the whole chair hog issue by sunning on my balcony. [emoji1]

I do not chair hog but I also bring very little to the pool with us, only towels. We go in the pool for a while then get out for a bit. God help the person that steals my chair and towel while I spend a little time in the pool. Carnival security can escort them out of the area.

I said the same thing!
