steelcity5044 Posted February 28, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 28, 2015 I know pricing is subject to change but how frustrating!!!!!! I was trying to place booking using Freestyle Plus with dining package and 3/4 passenger free for the June 7th sailing of the Breakaway. On Thursday the kids were free. Due to schedules etc I couldnt book until today. And now(2 days later) the kids are half off instead. This adds almost $1000 per cabin and I just cant do it knowing it was a $1000 less just two days ago! Considering the dining package ends today you would think it wouldnt change the 3/4 passenger until today as well. Ugh now I have to wait see if there will be another promotion or I need to find a new ship/itinerary out of a Northeast port. :(
titangas Posted February 28, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 28, 2015 I would recheck tomorrow. There were some freaky pricing going on at the end of last month when they were transitioning promos - in both directions. In one case that I know of a suite went up $2000 on Jan 30th and back down on Feb 1.
jbiz Posted February 28, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 28, 2015 Also the dining package and stuff that "ends today" is being replaced with a similar but with 1 more option of free DSC for passengers 1 and 2. So I wouldn't worry about the promo ending part. On the 26th some cruise fares did go up however. Not sure if they came back down at all. Kingofwylietx Posted March 1, 2015 #4 Share Posted March 1, 2015 That happened to us on our last cruise. We still did the cruise, but hated that our procrastination ended up costing us almost $2k. Ouch!
steelcity5044 Posted March 1, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted March 1, 2015 Now it looks like all of July is 50% off fare for third and fourth instead of any free! Ugh ugh

rolyasmatt Posted March 1, 2015 #8 Share Posted March 1, 2015 It is strenuous- my final is due in July, I look about every other day and have rebooked 3 times. But you know what- after final the price drops, it is what it is and I tried. Every trip cannot be perfect and some people get better deals than others. That's life. But im happy with my UBP for free.
Pikaia Posted March 1, 2015 #9 Share Posted March 1, 2015 Seriously, switch to the Dawn from Boston to Bermuda and sail on June 5 with us! :D On the Dawn the first couple of sailings in June are still 3rd/4th free.

4774Papa Posted March 1, 2015 #11 Share Posted March 1, 2015 I swear the booking process is the most strenuous part! Sorry about your booking problems. We never seem to have booking problems on either NCL or Celebrity. i always call my great cruise consultant and she takes good care of me. It usually takes less than 20-30 minutes. This is why you book immediately if you see something you'd be sad about if it no longer was there. As long as it's before final payment you would be able to adjust (cancel, rebook) if something better came along. Hopefully there will be a new promo that will suit you. Lesson learned I guess. Don't wait...just like airline tickets. Just because you see a price now, doesn't mean it will be there an hour from now.

InTheCruisingYearsOfLife Posted March 1, 2015 #14 Share Posted March 1, 2015 (edited) I swear the booking process is the most strenuous part! Booking most strenuous? No, that can be done with the click of a button. Subsequent adjustments, such as canceling a booking are far more strenuous. I posted "Wait on hold like a Norwegian" yesterday, but evidently I rankled the, um, sensibilities of the forum watchhounds, probably when I spliced in a link to a picture. One respondent declared me to be a user of "clever rhetoric". I really like that. It is just sooooo NCL. "Norwegians use clever rhetoric". Evidently I was supposed to feel scalded and scolded by the characterization, but really, it just so capsulizes the whole NCL marketing campaign: "Norwegians are/do/like/think <fill in NCL corporate flattery here>." But do Norwegians get customer service? Not so much -- well, hit and miss anyway; and not as much in recent years as when they were scrappier. Pikaia Posted March 1, 2015 #15 Share Posted March 1, 2015 How is the Dawn? Do you like it better than the Breakaway? We haven't sailed on any of the mega-ships, but others say it's like comparing apples and oranges. Someday we'll sail on a mega-ship out of NY, but we'll probably do it without kids or wait until they're teens. We love the mid-size ships (Dawn, Star, Gem, etc.). Dawn doesn't have waterslides, a ropes course, or a climbing wall, but it does have a nice kids' pool area at the back of the ship. For younger kids that pool area is ideal. Even my kids (mid- and late-elementary age) are happy with that area. We like not having to book entertainment (it's not difficult to get seats in the theater), and we only reserve restaurants ahead of time because we want to, not because it's absolutely necessary. I like how easy it is to get around the Dawn and Jewel class ships (good pedestrian flow), and I like the fact that it's easy to avoid the smokiness of the casino (BA's is more centrally located). If it matters, there are 3 banks of stairs and elevators (instead of 2 on BA), and the elevators move faster than those on the BA. The Dawn's reasonable size and simple layout means I'm comfortable letting my kids have a little independence, ie. go to the buffet and get a snack by themselves. For the categories we book, the Dawn is usually cheaper than the BA. Parking at the pier in Boston is also cheaper, at $20 per day compared to $40 per day in NYC. (There's a valet parking option that's ~$25 per day in NYC, but I was totally horrified out by a review that mentioned they leave your windows down. A rat apparently spent some time in the reviewers car, eating a granola bar and chewing up a book. Ugh!) Boston's also lovely for pre- or post-cruise activities. It's very easy to navigate, very walkable, full of interesting history, with plenty of fun stuff to do with or without kids.
mrobstad Posted March 1, 2015 #16 Share Posted March 1, 2015 You're right! I had a relationship with one, and she left for a central office job. The guy I currently use got me upgraded from a studio to aft balcony last week. And when I did a dummy booking on my next cruise to check a price (and put it on a courtesy hold) he called me and moved it to his control. So, lately, I haven't had to deal with the nonsense others have been dealing with. As I stockholder, I can tell you that I'm upset so many customers are having issues with the site and service. Clearly, this us something NCL has to fix.[emoji41]
lhsail Posted March 2, 2015 #17 Share Posted March 2, 2015 We have just come back to NCL after 25+ years of other lines. Frankly the UBP got us a few weeks ago when we were looking for a last minute getaway. I'm trying to make concessions for the popularity of the current promotions, but we just booked a second NCL cruise for early April and I've never felt like I was running to hold on to pricing like I have with these two bookings. Is it typical of NCL to change pricing almost daily?

gail-s Posted March 2, 2015 #20 Share Posted March 2, 2015 I was annoyed by the "half off" for the 3rd person. We booked our cruise 2 years ago and had to postpone to this summer. Thanks to the snowpocalypse here in Boston, DH is a teacher and will still be working on June 26th when we're supposed to leave so I had to bump the trip out a week. DD was booked at $599 as our 3rd person before. She's still booked at $599 for this trip and that's "half off". The PCC was sort of a jerk about it when I questioned the price change and told him I thought it was deceptive advertising. As it is, the cruise is now costing me $900 more thanks to the one week change. It had best be worth the headache once we're on it.
theloo Posted March 2, 2015 #21 Share Posted March 2, 2015 I feel your pain. I was planning one trip and while making arrangement with companions, the fare went up twice (and a third time since then). So, I switched gears and started planning a slightly different cruise and was ready to book this week and the price went up last night. It would cost us an extra $400 now, so we probably wont go this year.

I had a similar issue and thought the price was jacked up. It wasn't. I was 1) looking at a different sail date and didn't realize that some dates were kids sail free and other dates were kids sail half price and b) If you don't click through an dfill in everything, it doesn't show the per person prices, it just shows the price for persons 1 and 2. Its hella confusing to me.
steelcity5044 Posted March 2, 2015 Author #23 Share Posted March 2, 2015 Yea I checked. NCl has now removed the free fares from all of July and the third and fourth are now half off. This has produced a substantial increase. Such is life but it's thrown a wrinkle in our planning
cricusecc Posted March 6, 2015 #24 Share Posted March 6, 2015 Frustration of a different kind. In my case, booking for an inside room for 3 on EPIC was done in January when the 3rd person was full price. The current pricing for the Balcony is around 2300. When I called for a possible upgrade to balcony (paid), I was quoted around 2900, the reason being no promotion for the 3rd person at the time of booking. I know it is left to the sole discretion of NCL. But, whatever the policy is it still makes no sense. Why would one pay more than the current pricing? I am not even asking for UBP or UDP or anything else, and NCL refuses to upgrade without re-booking. And re-booking is not a choice (lose 75%).
