I can buy a carnival gift card for 10% off and I am considering it to save some money to use towards alcohol. So let's say that I buy a $500 gift card but only use up $400, how would I get the $100 back when the cruise is over.

You can also go down on the last night and close your card. They will give you any money left in cash. Just remember you can't use your card for purchases after that so make sure you are finished purchasing anything. Card still works for door. My son goes down before he goes to bed last night to do it.

Go to the casino and put your S&S card into a slot machine put all your money left into the slot then hit cash out and take it to cashier and get cash.

Awesome. This sounds like the easiest and best way to do it. I will have to remember this. :)

So if I go to my local Kroger and purchase a Carnival gift card for $500.00 I can use that as my S&S account on the ship?

Has anyone actually done this? I would hate to spend the money and not be able to achieve this.

Thanks.

Good Question. I await an answer.

Yes you can. That's what I do except with the egift cards from Carnival. I set up a cash account and put them on it. If you don't spend it all just cash it out in the casino the last night.

  • 2 months later...

You can ask them to put whatever amount from the card on ur S&S card you want. (As long as you will use the balance at a later date) that's what I was going to do, until DH had to see ship doctor so our S&S was more than expected.

I wonder what the amount is that they stop and say "Whoa there!"

Like, could I get $5,000 worth of gift cards (For $4500 from verizon) and put it all on, then get $5k out at the casino, pocketing $500?

Don't get me wrong, Im way too lazy for this, I just wondered.

I guess at some point you'd get flagged by customs for bringing cash into the country - I think it's $10,000? Not sure if Carinval would have something to say before that, but they probably have to report anything over customs limits...

We have applied gift cards to a non cash based account. Had a credit card attached to our account and applied $200 in egift cards at the pursers desk.

If you have a balance left at the end and you don't cash out, two things can happen. They mail you a check for the balance or they send you another gift card for the amount that was remaining. I suppose you could cash out at the casino, not sure you can do it at the pursers desk.
