Typical day with Cheers?

Recommended Posts

So we are still debating the cheers program. For those of you who've had cheers, what did a typical Sea day look like? Port day?

Well for our wedding cruise we bought it. For me a normal sea day was a Bloody Mary or 2 with breakfast, go up to lido have a margarita or mojito, then start with some beers, with dinner have another beer. Later on hit either the casino (for a Long Island) or the alchemy bar for a watermelon mojito or 2. Given all that, I only hit 15 drinks one time actually drinking, but we also used it to our advantage to grab unopened beers and angry orchard ciders for my wife for some beach days.

Clear in the morning, fuzzy by afternoon, dim by night on Sea Days

Clear in the morning and fuzzy at night on port days. :D

When we get Cheers we usually do liquor instead of beer so we struggle to hit 15 on port days, especially if the excursion included booze. But we also buy Bon Voyage bottles so we have well over 15 drinks a day. I drink 2 beers a week at home on average, geez, we are cruise-booze-aholics!

We would start off our sea days with a Baileys and Coffee or another coffee concoction. After all it is morning. Then on to Bloody Mary, Mimosa, Salty Dog, what ever your breakfast poison might be, probably two, by the time your done with breakfast. That is 3 drinks already. I like to sip on a Sangria or Wine Spritzer before lunch while strolling around. Dh likes to experiment with different Beers if available. Lunch, Martini time. Got to try all the delicious flavors they have now. Also love a Miami Vice, so I might go this direction. Either way 3 more drinks down by the time lunch is done. And NO, I'm not drunk, LOL Now it's pool time. If Mexico, definately I like to have a couple of Tequilla shooters chased by a beer. If the Caribbean maybe a MaiTai or two. Like to grab a champagne spliter on the way back to the room, or maybe a Rum and Coke. Thats 3 more, for a total of 9 drinks. No worries though I do go to bed early so the 15 does me just fine. Shower, nap, get ready for dinner. Stop and get a glass of wine to bring to table with me, DH gets his Burbon and 7 or Scotch Rocks. Then we order another when we get to the table. After dinner order something Yummy, port, liquor with dessert. Thats 3 more = 12. Show time, of course we're going to have a drink, comedy club of course, one more then we just might have a night cap on the way back to the room that would be #15, or NOT, LOL :D

On port days we'll assume you mean when you get off the ship for 6-10, sometimes I stay on board, I'm assure you I will still have the 6 drinks it takes to break even for the day. :D

If you want to just order a drink whenever you want, and you like to try new drinks, you might just like Cheers.

Cheers!

If anybody is going to make a comment regarding my alcohol intake on a cruise keep it to yourself because I am going to ignore any sarcastic comments...now to answer the OP question. We are three adults, father in law my other half and myself.

Cruise days we generally drink an average of 13 cocktails

Port days we generally drink an average of 13 cocktails we seem to come back more thirsty lol

I actually envy you people who can make Cheers worth it. If I had more than 1 drink in the morning then I would be dragging all day and unable to even drink at night. If I hold off and drink at night then I might make it to a 3rd drink if I am in the casino. I am such a lightweight, after my 2nd or 3rd drink I am just not feeling right and don't want to drink any more. When I was in college it was the opposite, after the 3rd drink is when I started to feel good and went for the shots. This getting old stuff is no fun!!!

This describes my last cruise! I definitely got my money's worth and one of those times I'm grateful for a really high tolerance so I'm not a stumbling obnoxious drunk or face down and drooling on the bar before the ship rocks and I fall off the stool. :D

Morning: Bloody Mary (occasionally a second).

Pre-Lunch: Mojito

Lunch: Mojito or 2

Pre-dinner: gin & tonic, martini, or something along those lines.

Dinner: glass or 2 of wine.

After dinner: a couple drinks at Alchemy then off to the Jazz club for a cigar and a couple single malts.

Sounds like a lot but, it's spaced out and I rarely found myself with more than a light buzz.

BigBo882 I am going to turn 52 but 10 years ago I might of gone over the 15 limit, I did slow down :o

For some reason I always had a high tolerance to alcohol, even medications I need more, I recall years ago having to be put out for a medical test, doctor comes in and sees me up and questioned the nurse whether they gave me the anesthesia...another time was for surgery, they couldn't believe I was still up lol had to give me more anesthesia.

You only need to drink 6 of the fancy fruity cocktails to meet your minimum...lol The problem I had on Port Days was going to Sr Frogs or fat Tuesdays and having more than my fair share there...so the ship made put on me on Port Says...But I more than made up for the shortage on Sea Days!!

I also forgot to add...for the more expensive fruity caribbean cocktails....I believe they call them "ultra"?... Keep your receipt and you get a $5 voucher at casino to use as match for gambling...not a bad deal for gamblers

I spend too much time at the casino, so 2 wines before lunch, another wine at the casino. Go back to my balcony for a read with my kindle and a snoose. Go back to the casino with another wine. Dinner and wine and I've paid for the cheers program for the day.

So anything after that is free for me. I will switch off wine later for a mojito or gin & tonic. That is my vacation mode, never my mode at home. I like to drink and think the Cheers program is a good buy for me. Never reach the 15 limit and never get drunk.

I enjoy a lemon drop ( vodka, triple sec and lemon juice) and French Martinis (Vodka, Chamboord and pineapple juice). Are these considered Ultra or premium Martinis? I looked over the drink menu, but it does not specify.

It would be helpful to know before deciding on the cheers package. Any info appreciated.

My boyfriend and I purchased the Cheers package on our 7 day out of Baltimore to Canaveral and the Bahamas. Very worth it. We calculated that 6 drinks minimum makes the cost worth it, though they cap you on the Pride at 12 drinks a day. I'd usually start the day with a Bloody Mary and proceed to drink Kiss on the Lips and the Carnival equivalent of a Mudslide (the name escapes me atm). My boyfriend did a lot of Ultimate Margaritas and Scotch. He tried the occasional fruity or frozen drink as well. Very worth it as relaxing with drink in hand is very necessary on a cruise ;)

I like French Martinis too! and most other of the martinis. Yes, they would be included in the cheers program. The only ones that would not be covered if you started requesting "super" top shelf liquors or extra floaters, shots in your drinks. Most things are covered in the cheers program except some of the "highest of the shelfs".

We have only tried Cheers once and that was on Carnival Liberty when the price was $37.50 a day instead of the $49.95. We averaged 6-8 drinks daily. Most of my drinks were mango swirls or Pina Coladas except for 2 glasses of wine at dinner.

Drinking the fruity drinks filled me up so I didn't drink as much as if I were drinking Chivas and soda. I would do it again as I like the idea of not having to worry about a bar bill, but I won't ever get near the 15 per day even if I don't get off the ship.

I understand exactly what you mean lyndamr. I have a pretty high tolerance too. One time I woke up before my surgery was finished.

I think eating so much food on cruises also increases the tolerance level.

This is an interesting thread. Getting some good ideas!

A typical sea day I have 2 or 3 Bloody Mary's between about 9 and 11. Then around lunch time I will switch to Margarita's or Mojito's (about 1 an hour). Around 3pm I've reached the breakeven point.

In the afternoon until dinner I'm usually in the casino and have several more cocktails of various kinds. I usually have a couple of glasses of wine with dinner and depending on whether I'm at a show or in the casino I'll have maybe 3 or 4 more wines before bed.

It's not unusual for me to have 10+ drinks per day, I rarely get to all 15 but I have and I'm rarely feeling more than just a slight buzz.

Port days are not much different except that I'm off the ship for a few hours at most so those are the lower count days.
