majarosh Posted March 20, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 20, 2015 Yup. Cabin directly above the MIAMI UNDERWATER MAINTENANCE Company...in wet suits since 1230..WHEN WE walked onto the ship. Not much they could have gotten done in 10 hours, except a polishing of the propellers or a routine underwater inspection. Little late in the drydock rotation for a UWILD inspection, but perhaps they are experiencing marine growth fouling in their sea intakes and wanted a look, or their performance was dropping and wanted to see whether the props needed polishing. Could be the initial work for thruster repairs, though with the sea days in the schedule, doing one of these in service becomes very difficult to schedule. Given that she's only 7 years old, they can still do UWILD's as intermediate surveys, but her last drydocking was Jan '11 (early, less than 4 years) so the UWILD window would have been June '13 at the latest, and she's now due for drydocking again in Jan '16. There's a couple of other reasons to have the divers down, but without cranes and a lot more time, I don't see anything serious about this, especially since they notified passengers in advance of the late sailing. Thinking about it now, there does seem like many times I have seen Miami Diver trucks and vans dockside either on arrival or departure in south Florida. Makes perfect sense,, no doubt a lot of resources for that type of work in the area. Miami Divers are one of the specialty dive outfits that do work for cruise lines. On a ship in Hawaii, we needed to overhaul a thruster, in water. The Rolls Royce tech set up to have an entire team from Miami Divers fly out and spend the week doing the work. That was pretty interesting. We would travel from port to port with thruster propeller blades chained off in the thruster tunnel, and when we got to port, they would take them out and hang them from hoists on the side of the ship so they could get in to work. Before sailing every day, I had to witness a video survey of all the bits and pieces tied off down there, to determine that nothing would come adrift and either get lost, or go through the propellers. UWILD inspections will sometimes take more time than the ship can afford in one port call, so they can be done over consecutive turn-around port days (generally the longest port stays). This was during a drug bust at apx 830 or so. The Miami Underwater Mtnce truck kept us gals entertained with PUSH UPS in between their individual dives ! Sorry. ..who needs a Chippendale show. .. I am hoping that the Entertainment Team could provide you will some more entertaining things once you started sailing.....some of those bodies to watch when they do the Village People during the 70's show.
