Ultimate Beverage Package question

When you sign the drink slip, both the drink price and the gratuity will appear on the slip. Both will be zeroed off your account at the end of the day. Gratuities are included in the package if you received it as a promo. If purchased, gratuities are paid at the time of purchase, so the slip signing works the same regardless. The entire total is zeroed off as long as the base price of the drink is $11 or less.

Thank you for this info.

I did have two occasions on the breakaway where it was not zeroed out at the end of the day. Don't know why but I went to guest services and they took care of it.

Hey denatravels, thank you for this information. I will be sure to check my account at the end of each day to make sure my drink amounts are all zeroed out.

If you have a smartphone, get the app. You can check anywhere on the ship for free (only the texting feature is $).

Enjoy!!

We had one time when it took until about 10am the next day for the prior day charges to zero out. No big deal. We didn't go to guest services or anything, the charges just dropped off as they are supposed to. Don't hold my timeframe as if it's gospel because it doesn't matter, and you won't turn into a pumpkin if it takes a little longer. We've had no issues after 2 cruises with UBP. I certainly wouldn't waste time worrying about it or visiting guest services unless it is the very end of the cruise.

One of the previous posters asked is it cheaper to prepay for the package or is it the same price on the ship? I would like to know that also, thank you

Prices are listed on the NCL website. Yes, it's cheaper to prepay.

Thank you for telling me when to visit guest services. It would have been fun to take your advice and wait until the last day and stand in gigantic lines. I chose to go early in the morning as I was walking by and there was no one there.

Just curious...when the charges "zero out", is it still listed on the account? What I mean is, at the end, when you get you whole account listing, are they all still on there just zeroed out? Trying to figure out if I could use it to decide on the next cruise i book if it's the best "choice" for us.

I wasn't telling you when to visit. I was saying there is no specific set time when the charges drop off, so if it doesn't happen at the very second one thinks it should, there is no need to assume it won't happen.

How you check on the zero process depends on which ship you are on because the app only works on the new ships. We were on Jade and we waited until the last day as we did not know you could check at anytime at GS - but it did work OK - just seemed a confusing way of doing it.

I have mentioned before how on the UDP package you see straight away when you sign for the dinner because there is a balancing negative sum on the receipt and a zero total (unless you want to add an extra tip). This is much better and far easier to understand than the daft system they use on the UBP. I can only assume that the IT system on the ships used for charges on the UBP could not be changed so they resorted to this "zero at the end of the day" as a bodge on the main charge system.

Would you happen to know how much the texting feature costs? Also, is it per device or is it a charge per stateroom? How many texts are included in the cost? I could not find any of this information in the app description.

$7.95 per device, I believe. I don't think there's a limit to the number of texts, but how many can you send on vacation?????

Thank you for this info. We are going on the Gem with my 3 grandkids and their friends so we would like to use it to keep in touch with them as they wander the ship. $7.95 per device is very reasonable so we will be using this feature.

There will be no way to tell on your final bill how much you consumed in beverages. We kept our receipts and sort of did a running total each day. We did drink more than the cost of the UDP. You will also see some additional benefits, like not having to think about how much your bar tab will be at the end of the cruise and nothing to stop you from trying something new. I was very happy to have purchased it and even though on our next 4 cruises we receive free drink cards from the casino we chose to have the UBP as part of the booking promotion.
