Tangocherie Posted May 12, 2015 #51 Share Posted May 12, 2015 There is a charge for room service but only between the hours of midnight and 5am (or it may have been 5.30am, can't remember). No charge for other times. That is not correct. A new charge of $7.95 has been implemented on all NCL ships as a "convenience fee" for room service orders. The time of day has nothing to do with it. You are probably referring to RCCL policy for room service fees....
TurnLeftKasey Posted May 12, 2015 #52 Share Posted May 12, 2015 Copied from http://www.sun-sentinel.com/business/tourism/fl-cruise-room-service-fees-20150410-story.html "The new menu, which offers an expanded breakfast selection and more options available 24 hours, will attract a $7.95 convenience charge for each order placed, although the food selections are complimentary, a Norwegian spokeswoman said. Items such as morning coffee and continental breakfast will not incur this fee."

I've not read any info on RCCL, only NCL, and I've been researching for quite a while, so perhaps this was the room service policy prior to the 'new' charge of $7.95. I'm glad you've brought this to my attention though.
TurnLeftKasey Posted May 12, 2015 #54 Share Posted May 12, 2015 It's new! Effective April 1st. Sadly it wasn't an April Fools Joke! Lol Heard t was only on the Breakaway and Getaway right now but if that isn't the case, someone can chime in to clarify.
lambchoplady Posted May 12, 2015 #55 Share Posted May 12, 2015 I've sailed on the Epic and it was just fine (although the bathroom was a tad cozy). This is one more reason to join your cruise's roll call and go to the M&G. The Hotel Director will be there, will give you a business card, and will encourage you to contact him if you have any problems.
NJ Fred Posted May 13, 2015 #56 Share Posted May 13, 2015 (edited) If room service fees sends someone into a panic, they need more than a message board to calm them. Why? Why is it you must talk to others in a condescending, cheap way? If you don't agree with a post, at least have enough maturity to realize that others have a right to their opinions. NCL is alienating a substantial portion of their customer base. One post said "free style is now fee style>" And that truly seems to be the case. If Del Rio's agenda is to shift the line's demographic it would seem he is off to a running start. Learn some respect and tolerance for others, Pizza. In other words, act your age. I was referring to panicking, which was in direct response to the subject line of this post. I don't think that's safe or okay, regardless of age. ( although I'm not sure how age fits in, but you brought it up). If responding using the same term as the OP is immature, then I guess I'll never grow up. Thank goodness! Pia1913 Posted May 13, 2015 #59 Share Posted May 13, 2015 Rarely has a cruise line's new policies created so much negative comments on these boards! Are you kidding? ANY time there are new policies you can expect a lot of negativity. On ALL cruise lines. Read the boards more often and you will see for yourself. Danielle68 Posted May 19, 2015 #60 Share Posted May 19, 2015 I was on the Epic 2 weeks ago, and there were no bedbugs in my room! the sheets were very clean.
robin13 Posted May 19, 2015 #61 Share Posted May 19, 2015 Just got off the Epic on Sunday May 17 and found it to be clean and well maintained. Also found all of the crew very nice and cheerful which was a plus. I was in a studio and really enjoyed it. I do have to say that this ship has a very strange layout and is very bland and boring inside. No glitz and glamour like I am used to but I still had a good cruise. Loved the specialty restaurant's and glad that I paid $119 as I heard from numerous people that the dining room food was pretty bad. I too was concerned when I first saw all of the bad reviews prior to leaving but it really was a nice cruise.
Cruzface Posted May 19, 2015 #62 Share Posted May 19, 2015 I was on the Maiden Voyage of the Epic and you could not pay me, to go back on this vessel!! That sounds a little extreme. Getting paid to go on any cruise ship would be fine with me.:D
SuiteTraveler Posted May 19, 2015 #63 Share Posted May 19, 2015 We sailed on Epic in March 2014. It is a beautiful and clean ship. We had a gorgeous spa suite and it was clean. The specialty restaurants are good to excellent. The entertainment is excellent. The casino is big with many of the latest slot machines and there is a lot of stuff to do onboard ALL the time. There are so many options it is impossible to do it all in a week. The ONLY negative to sailing on this ship in the Med is that the Med is usually port intensive, so you won't get to do as much on the ship which is a shame because the ship is a destination in and of itself. PS: If you are not in a spa cabin, get a spa pass as the spa on this ship is FABULOUS - especially the water circuit! Your body will thank you for going to the spa after a long day of touring in Europe! As to the negativity, unfortunately, there are organized groups and individuals on the internet who make posts trying to damage or interfere with companies. They have various motives from anarchy to hating big business or a personal vendetta against the company they are attacking for some slight, real or imagined. They use the internet to try to persuade and influence other people to turn against the company and therefore inflict more damage to the company. The best thing to do is ignore them and don't fall victim to what they are attempting to do. Make your own judgements. Don't allow yourself to be fooled by these people who have ulterior motives. These people don't care about you or if their posts cause you great distress. They just care about enacting their own agenda/revenge and they are glad to use you to do that, if you let them. Don't let them get to you.
evandbob Posted May 19, 2015 #64 Share Posted May 19, 2015 The one legitimate complaint about the Epic which I read about prior to my first cruise on her, was that the casino is spread out and quite smoky, so that getting to some of the entertainment venues was troublesome for some folks. After sailing on the Epic twice, I can confirm that the smoke is a problem, just as it is in other ship's casinos where smoking is allowed. The irony about bed bugs is that they don't like nicotine and generally avoid smokers. But in my 30 odd cruises, I've never had a cabin with bed bugs, soiled linens or a used bathrobe. HarpHarp Posted May 19, 2015 #67 Share Posted May 19, 2015 \ I would be more panicked and embarrassed by the fact that I was getting on the ugliest, most hideous, boxy, top-heavy looking abomination of a ship afloat ... its the AMC PACER of the cruise industry ... people look at it, point, and go .. "god what a horrible looking ship" ... Hey, I loved my Pacer. It was white with red interior & Indian print seats & a very cool looking car I'll have you know:DI even shipped it to St. Thomas when I moved there. The escaped con who stole it made it very easy for the cops to find on that tiny island.
