Will Celebrity be boring for us?

I only ask this because we are used to the things on Carnival and enjoy the atmosphere.

We like having live music throughout the day and fun events on the Lido deck.

I get the feeling its very quiet on Celebrity.

If anyone could add helpful advise I would appreciate it

If you are happy with the Carnival product why are you considering a change? Having sailed both lines and having liked both lines for different reasons - the only person who can answer your question is yourself.

What is it you are looking for? A fun, party, active nightlife - all things I've experienced on Carnival - along with good food and great staff. If you want a more upscale, romantic and refined experience - Celebrity - along with great food and great staff.

The choice is yours to make - but Celebrity is not Carnival in the mood or atmosphere. Also note the difference in the dress codes.

Well,I know the choice is mine. We booked the celebrity cruise because the low price and the departure port.

The cruise is for my 18yo daughter and I (54)

We like the fun that carnival brings to the table and always had a great time.

My husband and i are in our late 30's and don't find Celebrity boring. I love the DJ and his drums when he is around and the high energy you always encounter at the Martini Bar.

I wish their dance/night club was more attended because on some nights the music is good but that is just the demographic make up i think.

I think there is always something going on.

You don't say which cruise you have booked, but in my experience there isn't a single Celebrity experience. The four night Caribbean cruises are completely different than the 15 night Transatlantic cruises or the 14 night South America or Baltic or Australia cruises. The port intensive cruises are different than those with lots of sea days and attract a different passenger. Cruises during the summer or during spring break are very different than those when kids are in school. So, tell us more about the cruise you have booked or are thinking of booking and you'll get a better answer.

I've only been on two Celebrity cruises, and no Carnival cruises, but I'll give it a go, anyway. I think much depends on the itinerary. It seems like the Caribbean cruises on any cruise line are much more upbeat than cruises to, say, Alaska.

My Millennium cruise to Alaska was almost like being in a library the entire week, and it appeared to draw an older crowd. My Equinox cruise, on the other hand, provided karaoke, dancing at the poolside, and live music every afternoon (I didn't partake in any of that, though--not my thing).

I think that overall, the atmosphere depends on some combination of itinerary and time of year--at least on Celebrity.

Thanks for the info -- because so many people make huge signatures, I have the signatures blocked so I couldn't see which cruise you had booked. The cruises to Bermuda will have lots of families, there should be a good number of teenagers and young adults, too. You might not find much to do on board the ship on the night you are in Bermuda, so many go ashore that night that they often cut back on the activities then. But otherwise you should be in with a lively crowd.

I think entertainment is one of Celebrity's weakest areas IMO. The production shows at night sometimes have put me to sleep (literally). It could be that because I have done Celebrity so many times, the shows are all the same regardless of ship (they need to spice it up a bit!) The guest entertainers tend to be good. Some of the activities at night include Cruise officers (dancing with the stripes, liars club, etc) and are pretty entertaining.

During the day they will have activities througout the ship, piped and live music in the pool area and in all my celebrity sailings there has always been some sort of "guests vs. officers" games (I have participated in the last couple Vball games and they were always fun). You won't find too many announcements or contests among guests like you would in Royal Caribbean for example (the only other line I have cruise with before).

I don't think you will be dissapointed. Oh and about Bermuda, the weather and water will be gorgeous at that time of the year. I think Harbor Nights in downtown Hamilton will also be happening in July. I have never attended but heard is good.

I also cruise a lot on Carnival (16+) and am going on my second Celebrity cruise-Summit May 31. It was a toss up between Carnival and Celebrity this time but I love Bermuda and that was the deciding factor. I don't think Celebrity has the same vibe but you will still enjoy it,I think. The officers are so friendly. I rode down the elevator with the captain on my first cruise and he was super nice. And nothing beats visiting Bermuda.

Noooooooooooooo! and they don't allow smoking in the casino (in fact smoking is not allowed anywhere indoors (including your cabin) and is limited to very few places outdoors...you can not smoke on your balcony, for example.

I think you'll have a great time and for those three days in Bermuda the ship will be your hotel but you'll supposedly be in port most of the time.

I've been on some Celebrity passenger choirs where we rehearsed most days and performed either in the theatre or in the atrium on the last day/night. That is a whole lot of fun for me.

There are also flash mob rehearsals (often a Michael Jackson song) that look like fun. Lots of dance classes.

Last cruise was a TA last fall and I joined a daily watercolor class. Supplies were included and we had lots of freedom to do our own thing. What made it the most fun for me was a group of 4 other ladies I sat with every day. We ended up spending time together during the cruise. And no, you didn't have to be an artist to do this. I surely am not! I was more the example of what NOT to do!!!:D

I've never participated in the napkin-folding, the scrapbooking and paper flower making classes and things like that, but they're there and if that's your thing, great.

There are plenty of wine tasting events - some have a fee, some don't.

If you're smart, you'll just ignore the art auction.

We have enjoyed many of the lecturers on board. Some have been so well attended that it's standing room only or they have held them in the main theatre.

My husband finds a lot of entertainment playing pingpong (on the S class ships) and it's fun to watch that too. Also if you like Texas Hold 'Em, there are tournaments.

Get on your roll call once you're made your decision to cruise and get conversations going with your upcoming new best friends. Many set up bridge, poker, Mah Jong and other games ahead of time.

You will find it a more personally independent cruise. Meaning, there won't be staff around every corner urging you to join in on something. It will be more laid back. There won't be announcements during the day as reminders. You're given your printed Celebrity Today the evening before on your turn-down, and the assumption is made that you can read and schedule yourself. The schedule tears off and you can stick it in a pocket. You can be as laid back as you want or as busy as you want, but it will be a 'different' busy than on other cruise lines. Which is why where are different cruise lines.

I am good with spending my day reading in different quiet areas on the ship, doing my needlework in same, and enjoying good conversation with old and new friends (and my DH) throughout the day in a lounge. We cruise to see new places and the itinerary is always important to us. We cruise to relax and I would be unhappy on a ship that was too rambunctious or active all the time. I cruise to unwind and not have to worry about things like cooking and chores. I don't need or want to be entertained every minute. To some, it *might* be boring. To me, it's pure relaxation heaven. I can do minute-by-minute BUSY at home.

Yeah, and we also go up to the spa area and shed some calories every day on the elliptical and treadmill machines as we look out to sea. Not bad.

Last fall, Carnival went non-smoking on balconies too! Woo-hoo!

OP, find your roll call and also sign up for the Cruise Critic Meet & Mingle party at https://secure.celebritycruises.com/cruisecritic/getParty. You'll get an invitation to meet fellow Cruise Critic passengers and often the senior staff of the ship.

Limoguy -- You really are doing your homework, aren't you? :D

I don't think that either you (or the young folks in your party) will be bored on X. Of course, there isn't the "wow" factor, that you would find on, say, one of RC's new-builds -- no rock-climbing walls, skating rinks, flow-riders, etc. And, unfortunately, Summit does not have the Corning Hot Glass show, like some of the Solstice-Class ships. But, there is enough to keep everyone busy for the 3 days that you'll be at sea. The first day or so, you're just unpacking and exploring the ship -- and, the last day, you'll be busy packing -- so, you really don't have time to get too bored. If the weather is nice, most folks seem to flock to the pools, on sea days. Also, this itinerary is unique in that, once you dock in Bermuda, the ship really does become a floating hotel -- and, there's lots to do onshore.

And I appreciate it to:)

Oh, another good resource on this forum is the Ports of Call boards. There are several "locals" (and others who are very knowledgeable) who post regularly on the Bermuda board. If this is your first trip to Bermuda, that board and TripAdvisor can help you plan your days onshore.

We wished for the same thing on our cruise...really enjoyed everything - food, entertainment, etc. The only bummer was the nightclubs...they were pretty deserted every night. It was a bit disappointing. Wish there was a middle line between crazy 3am college kid/party cruises and ones where pax all disappear to their cabins after the last evening show. (The casino was crowded, but we're not gamblers.) We would have loved to meet other couples our age and hung out at the clubs till around 12/1am or so, just having a few drinks, dancing and getting to know people. I was surprised, as this was a 5-day cruise out of Port Everglades: which people say often attract the drinkers and party people!

But wouldn't have traded the cruise for anything...really a great time overall.

Thanks for mentioning that...didn't realize it. Many who favor Celebrity also seemed to have enjoyed their Carnival cruises for diff reasons, as one poster pointed out. Something to think about...
