Rhodes, Greece vs. Olympia, Greece

At this time we are looking at two different cruises which I have posted about in other threads. I noticed one more difference between the two. One of the cruises (Celebrity Constellation) goes to Rhodes, Greece...and the other (NCL Jade) goes to Olympia, Greece. Is one port better than the other? Scenery wise? I think we will be ok with seeing the ruins in Ephesus and Athens, that we probably won't want to see anymore. Thank you in advance!

The port is Katacolon, about 20 to 30 minutes from Olympia - a variety of ways to get there, including renting a car, the Katacolon Express coach, the (unreliable) railway, & ship's tour.

Katacolon itself is a one-street town, a couple of dozen shops, a number of bars & eateries, and a scrubby beach that's popular with jellyfish. Worth an hour or two & then you'll be bored

There's nowhere particularly worth visiting from Katacolon either, other than Olympia.

So its a visit to Olympia or a lazy half-day in Katacolon.

Just MHO as always

If one is interested in ancient history, then Olympia, site of the early Olympic games, is worth seeing and there's a good museum onsite as well.

Otherwise, Rhodes has a lot more to offer. The "old town" is walkable from where the ships dock and you can do it on your own (some sites online offer a DIY walking tour and info).

There are beaches not too far away better than what's available at Katakolon.

Lindos is a very pretty village but it's a distance of several hours from where you'll be docking and probably not worth going there for someone on a first visit.
