What else do you do on "At Sea" days?

I am new to cruising and am wondering what you do on at sea days. We have 3 days at sea and I can't picture myself staring at the scenery for hours at end while at sea. On a warmer cruise I could see myself hanging out at the pool or reading a book on the balcony but what do you do on a cooler cruise to fill the time?

I'm expecting the scenery to be spectacular but 5 hours at Hubbard Glacier, 9 hours at Glacier Bay and then an additional day between Ketchikan and Vancouver seems like a lot of time to fill.

We will be sailing in July on the Pacific Princess. Thanks for your suggestions.

Each night you will be given a paper called the Princess Platter. It will have a list of events and activities for the next day. These will include demonstrations, movies and other workout/dance things going on throughout the day. I usually take a pen and mark the ones I would like to do and then take it with me. I do not think you will have any problem finding things to do on your at seas days.

I was able to find the dailies for all 7 days of my upcoming cruise on May 30th on ncl. I'm sure you will be able to find the princess ones too. I have a complete itinerary already for my entire trip, including all the activities I'll be doing on sea days.

Ncl has culinary demonstrations, trivia contests, game shows, dance classes, exercise classes, and of course a hairy chest contest. There are tons more. I'm sure you will have plenty to do!

Princess does have a ship naturalist on board, who usually gives programs on sea days.

You can also do more research on your route, and determine, the wildlife areas you may sail through, or more scenic areas?

Otherwise, you can do a lot of the "same" activities you would on any cruise. Better if you have a covered pool area ship.

we did take advantage of that. The naturalist will announce over the PA for any interesting wildlife sighting

Sea days fly by very quickly. I'm not sure what exactly I did and when, but I know that I had no time for any activities in the Patter. I did not go to the pool or hot tubs, but did see others there. I did not watch any TV or read any books. I guess I did spend hours staring at the scenery.:) Actually, I know that was the case at Glacier Bay. That does stand out in my mind. I also recall doing some laundry and napping. And I remember DH insisting we go get something to eat. I didn't want to take the time to have breakfast or lunch because I always felt like I was missing something when I wasn't out on deck. At any rate, I would not be too concerned. You will find there is far too much to do in that short time.:)

Overall, few announcements are made, and many times they are pretty useless. If you don't have access to the area within seconds you are too late. The ship doesn't stop and neither does the wildlife. You will see far more, if you are already parked enjoying the scenery. :)

Hi there, which ship are you traveling on? I'm on the jewel and on this forum I went to the norwegian Jews section and in the first few pages you will find people who have posted dailies

Thanks for your suggestion. I found some patters from a July, 2014 sailing on the Pacific Princess. Some things to think about and consider.

Your Hubbard and Glacier Bay days are not "sea days" but scenic sailing days. Personally, I spend my time on deck on my glacier days. I might grab food quickly, but I stay outside and enjoy every moment.

On actual sea days, I do sit by the pool and read, unless it's raining. I've gotten sunburns.

Sleep in, leisurely breakfast, read, watch the ocean, nap, nibble, drink, explore, casino (dammit. I meant to avoid it this time!)

...rinse and repeat. (not necessarily in that order)

I'm one of those people who never tires of just watching the ocean - I can sit for days just listening to the waves against the ship. But for those of you who need more - there will be lots of activities onboard to keep you busy.

You really don't have as much time to fill as you think. The day between Ketchikan and Vancouver is spectacular, and you will spend most of the time at the two glaciers outside. That being said you can find plenty to do on the ship on sea days.

If you enjoy reading on deck on a warmer cruise, you might still enjoy it on a cool weather cruise! Once we have moved out of the best scenery I love to grab a cup of coffee, put on warm clothes and grab a blanket, and read a book in a lounge chair up on deck with the beautiful scenery passing by! If you are cruising with other people we also love to bring a deck of cards and grab a table up on deck so we can have something to do while we watch the passing scenery. The time goes much quickly than you think it will!
