Any News on Bermuda Dredging?

Recommended Posts

You conveniently leave out one minor fact, which was that there were never Quantum cruises offered for sale that had a Bermuda itinerary. Yes, we were all waiting for the 2015-2016 cruises to be released, myself included. But they were never offered for booking and no itinerary changes were made. So saying that they're similar situations are apples and oranges. (The dredging news is the same old song and dance that was going on before.)

And someone already posted that they were going to do it in the off-season. (The off season is coming soon and no plans have been announced.) And we now know the Bermuda resident was obviously not on top of things since it has been in the press. (I think the last article in the press is over a year old.) Why don't you get someone going on Liberty to ask the captain about it during the Q&A session and see what they say? And then let them accuse the captain of lying or not knowing what they're talking about if they say it's on schedule. ("Don't start a Rumor" I never said anyone was lying. They were probably passing on information that they heard. There has been a lot of information posted in the past about what Captains, cruise directors and other RC personnel have stated as fact that turned out to be just rumors.)

Please read the post more carefully before attaching anyone.

People on this thread are concerned because of not hearing information from the country that needs to do the dredging, not from the company that needs the dredging completed. RCCL is well known for either waiting until the last minute or completely keeping it's customers in the dark.

I guess I just don't understand why you think they owe you any information other than what's been announced. And please tell me when they've had to change an entire itinerary (or switch ships after people have already booked) because of the things you're accusing them of?

I think that there are a few issues.

-1 There hasn't been anything announced other than quite some time ago.

-2 you can't blame people for wanting to be informed. Some people have planned and saved for this trip for a while and possibly their vacation as they're expecting it, is at risk.

Additionally, some of those people are on the fence about keeping their booking given mixed reviews of this class.

They might only keep it due to the stop in Bermuda.

-3 on a 5 day cruise with the only destination being Bermuda, if they can't go there, they would have to change the entire itinerary.

-4 Please tell me when they've ever had a ship as large as the Quantum Class leave out of New York or call on Bermuda?

You can't just lump everything into one bucket and assume every ship and scenario I s the same. They're simply not.

1) They said they're going to dredge. I don't why you think that you are owed an update if the plans are still to do it. I guess you subscribe to the "no news is bad news" theory.

2) I can't blame people for wanting to be informed. I can (and do) blame people for stirring up FUD (look it up) when it's not based on any facts. If people want to go to Bermuda and don't want to sail on Anthem, there are other options. If they're in the US, they can get their full deposit back.

3) See #1.

4) Anthem is maybe 10% bigger than Liberty (and I know the dimension differences have been posted here). Quantum sailed out of NJ without any problems that I heard of so I don't understand why you included "leave out of New York" in your post.

4 - Quantum Never called Bermuda

3 & 1 - my comments were in response to your obnoxious ignorance, not about dredging happening or not- which, it is noted to be happening based only on articles posted a week ago.

This thread was started quite a while back.

However, I do see that you were not able to respond to my comment about a five day cruise with only one port.

2 - nobody here was saying that things would or would not happen, but obviously there are some people that have concerns. It's their freedom to express those concerns and to ask for feedback and opinions.

Last I checked, that is what message boards are for.

You may disagree with the opinions and concerns that others have, but your responses to several people who have posted on here is a true reflection of your character.

Many have had civil discussions and debates.

There really is no need to take the approach that you have.

You said "Please tell me when they've ever had a ship as large as the Quantum Class leave out of New York or call on Bermuda?" So half of your statement was wrong.

My response on no other option for a 5 day cruise other than Canada is the same as to "There hasn't been anything announced other than quite some time ago." Why should there be a concern if there has been no indication that the dredging is not going to happen?

The two of you who are so knowledgeable are welcome to continue your discussion spreading doubt on whether Anthem will be able to sail to Bermuda. However, when you start getting other people who have cruises booked concerned that there might be an issue because they've read your wild ideas here and think you know what you're talking about, and even consider changing their plans, I feel like someone has to step in and point out that what you're posting is in no way based on anything that has been announced and merely your guesses. It is not based on anything that has been announced or even alluded to by Royal Caribbean.

The only "true reflection of your (my) character" you are seeing is that I am unwilling to see people post BS and not point it out. I'm sorry if you don't like that.

I still don't see any issue here. You may disagree with my thoughts and I welcome your opinion. But your arrogance is frankly annoying.

It's your interpretation that people are stating things as facts, yet nobody else here has stated as much.

In order to call BS, you'd have to be talking about facts, which nobody, including you, has.

Play nice, everyone.;)

One thing to keep in mind is, Bermuda takes their time in doing something. As an example, opening the casinos while in Bermuda was talked about for quite awhile and the lines were assured it would happen but it took several years.

Right now it seems it's a matter of wait and see about the dredging.

Even if you folks aren't intending your posts to be taken as facts, at least one person seemed to be concerned enough to question if they should change their reservation.

Thanks for the news story on the Old Town Cut. The comments that followed the article were interesting as well. The debate on cruise ships stopping at Bermuda continues.

With the upcoming America's Cup competition I have no doubt there will be improvements to the Dockyard area including the staging island to be built from the dredging. The question, however, is when will it be completed.

Interesting Article.

Sounds like even if it is decided to move forward with the dredging the Bermuda Environmental Task Force (BEST) will probably take it to court causing a delay. I believe the plan was to put the spoils in the South basin. The window for getting the dredging completed is small enough right now there no time for any court delays.

Keeping an eye on this as I know all of us here are :) I have no idea how long dredging of the north channel would take to accommodate Anthem.

The contract for the dredging will stipulate that the work must be done by a date certain to allow for the passage of the Anthem.

It appears that they have the contractors lined up. So there's that.

I did a quick look at that report. It actually looks like there is some interesting information in there about Bermuda.

On the news stories, it only looks like they have secured contractors to work on the South Basin so far and not dredging the channel. It was determined it would be better to import the fill and not use the spoils from dredging the channels. So I guess now the 2 projects are completely separate of each other.

If they have been separated the spoils from the channel widening project would be dumped at sea beyond the 1000 fathom level which would mean there will be no delay to the channel dredging. Less expensive for both projects if the spoils can be used as fill in the South Basin.

Due to environmental considerations they can't start until the end of September. They have done some preliminary work with moving coral to another location.

There's another thread somewhere with more information. (You have to get past the sniping):)

Good Find. I thought we were going to loss the Anthem too.

Actually I think I would prefer keeping the Liberty here. We were on the Quantum's inaugural cruise and the ship was not ready to sail yet(so much went wrong) so we missed out on a true experience. We want to give the Anthem a chance next fall.

Today is about the latest you can get in September. I wonder if they started

I did see that thread as well on the Quantum board section of RCI
