CAS drink card

Any recent cruisers with CAS drink cards? Is it true you can only get a free drink if it is $5.00 or under? That would be a real bummer for in the future. We have UBP on next 2 cruises, but for after that...bummer if true

In the past, I remember getting a piña colada but I have always gotten diet pepsi with my drink card (green one). I wanna say as long as you don't get the premium drinks like Johnnie Walker on the Rocks(only VIP level get those drinks for free), you will be fine.

Last month on the Jewel the CAS drink card was good for drinks made with house liquor. I had no problem getting screwdrivers or vodka tonic or house chardonnay wine. Hubby had bloody Mary, rum punch, and something with vodka.

A drink on the ship for under $5?

Pretty sure you are not going to be drinking then.

Thanks, you remember what the house vodka was?

On the Breakaway in March, house vodka was Voli. I thought it was pretty good. Better than what they had on the Getaway the previous September.

If you wanted an upgraded drink (non house) they subtract $5 and you pay the rest.

And the bottled water was an excellent bonus.

Exactly this. The $5 discount is if you order something other than the house liquors/wines/beers. For example: I could get a Jim Beam and diet Pepsi, but if I wanted Jack Daniels, I had to pay an extra few bucks. (Good thing I'm a Jim Beam gal! ;) ) DH loves it because he can get all of the San Pellegrino he wants.

Thanks for the info.....we drink jack and coke, and know we could never get that with drink card*can't stomach jim. Guess the $5 discount for the drinks is what the other poster meant.

Thanks again. ...we good with getting other drinks...although we do miss our jack

It also would depend on what tier level drink car you have. The $5.00 off the cost of your drink is for the lowest.

I will be on the breakaway this Sunday and will be getting a CAS drink card I will definitely check out and see what I am able get. From what I hear if you tip the server of five or ten in the beginning they won't be charging you. I will give it a shot and report back

With the basic drink card we got:

Frozen margarita

Pina Colada

Strawberry Daiquiri

Banana Daiquiri

Mojitos

House Red/White

Red/White Sangrias

Bottled Water

Energy Drinks

We did tip the servers very well but never did get any premium alcohol. One time they ran out of pina colada so the server gave me a mudslide without charging me extra.

Could not get pina coladas last time on breakaway. They never even said ok but you will have to pay the difference. Will be interested to see Sunday

On the Dawn in February I was told $5 drinks with the CAS card. Prior to that cruise I could always get Amaretto with the CAS card with no problem, this time I had to pay the difference (about a dollar or two if I remember) if I wanted that. House mixed drinks, beer, wine & water bottles were not a problem.

I don't know how you got some of those drinks with a basic drink card.

I was told no to a Margarita and also to a Pina Colada.

I wasn't offered a $5 discount. That was from more than one server, and I was definitely tipping for drinks.

True statement. I assumed that's what we were all discussing since everyone was posting similar experiences. If you're "Lucky" or "Hot", your drink card will be the lower tier one with the $5 discount on 'better' alcohols.

I was told you can get the cheap liquors with one mix. You can't have anything frozen or with more than one mix or juice. I had to pay extra for pina colada, midori colada, mudslide and raspberry cosmo. I did get water for free! About 1 1/2 years ago, on the breakaway, I wasn't charged for anything. Things change.

Hmmm...I think we were on the same cruise - April 11 Jewel from Houston.

It's so random. The only time I got a NO was when I asked for a Rose.

Just got off the breakaway yesterday I was able to get anything I wanted including pina coladas in the casino my sister on the other hand asked for something and they wanted to charge her I think it depends on your server it's all random. A server also wanted to charge a friend of mine for coffee they have no clue what they're doing and by the way I'm only lucky

Check out this thread from TracyE: there is alot of info about CAS

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2213826

1) If you are LESS than Golden or VIP tier, you will still get a drink card BUT only the first $5 is covered. You pay the difference PLUS 18% gratuity.

Yucky change...what is less than $5-?????? althought other people claim if you do not order a premium drink, you are fine. Very confusing, another thing that seems to vary ship to ship

Safe sailing

i still believe the cas drink card covers all House drinks. I don't think any alcoholic drink is under $5. (maybe beer?)

any drinks above House (premium/Ultra) you get a $5 discount.

it'll be god awful Nickel and diming for $1 + .18 tip for a $6 house drink.

I'll find out when I sail in july on Breakaway.

oh, the Gem casino bar has more discretion about giving you a premium drink w/o charging you more. (ie: Jack and coke instead of House bourbon + coke)

Breakaway casino bar plays it by the book.

but this was Oct 2014 under Shennan.

Sorta irrelevant but I remember my mom told me that in the past, you used to be able to just go up to the bar in the casino, flash your free drink card and they would get you a drink. However, nowadays we have to flag down the servers.
