agennis Posted May 23, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 23, 2015 Sailing from NYC on the Breakaway later this year to Bermuda.....which side of the ship has the best views for balcony selection? Thanks all!!!!
138east Posted May 24, 2015 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2015 To get the full effect of the Sailaway you want to be up on a top deck. Port will have the view of Manhattan, but the Statue of Liberty is on the starboard. Going under the Verazanno Bridge is amazing from a top deck. There's no way to guarantee which way they will dock the ship in Bermuda, but perhaps others have an insight into which way the ship usually docks. Rare 1025cruise Posted May 24, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 24, 2015 It doesn't really matter where your balcony is. When sailing from NYC, you want to be up top. That was one of the joys of my cruise on the Veendam a few years ago, seeing the SOL and Ellis island. Though I suppose if you want to enjoy it from your balcony, starboard would be where to go. With reference to Bermuda, there is no way to know which way the ship will face when docked.
agennis Posted May 24, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted May 24, 2015 Will plan to be up top for sail away, but will book starboard just in case.....thanks a bunch!
midwestchick Posted May 24, 2015 #5 Share Posted May 24, 2015 How about the view from the Sunset Bar, deck 10 on the Summit?
Rare Got2Cruise Posted May 24, 2015 #6 Share Posted May 24, 2015 How about the view from the Sunset Bar, deck 10 on the Summit? The Summit sails from New Jersey so you won't get the same magnificent views as sailing from Manhattan.
Ozzie's Mom Posted May 24, 2015 #7 Share Posted May 24, 2015 Sailed two weeks ago on NCL Gem, port side forward, Owners suite. Magnificent views of Manhattan, Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty and Verrazano bridge. Returning to port, we saw it all again. Loved it. Great photos. Right, but once you're out of Cape Liberty, don't you get the same views of Manhattan?
138east Posted May 24, 2015 #9 Share Posted May 24, 2015 When you sail from Cape Liberty you start from south of Manhattan in the New York Harbor south of the Statue of Liberty. What you miss is all the views of midtown Manhattan sailing down the Hudson River and you miss sailing directly past the SOL.
