Irish110 Posted June 4, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 4, 2015 Looking for most convenient way to get from Venice airport to hotel near St. Marks. After a long flight we don't want to have to worry about dragging luggage around. Has anyone taken private water taxi from airport? Can you make reservation in advance? Is there a water taxi stand at the airport? Any help would be appreciated.
CruiserBruce Posted June 4, 2015 #2 Share Posted June 4, 2015 A quick look down the board would find tons of info. Water taxi is easy, pretty fast and by far the most expensive. Yes there is a taxi stand at the airport. No need to reserve. If you can drag your bags a couple of blocks, the Alilaguna is the better deal, money wise. Pricey, yes, but very convenient, as there are no interim stops and it will take you right to your hotel. We also got a tour of the Grand Canal along the way. We picked up some splits of prosecco in the airport and sipped that along the way. It was a lovely intro to Venice. Enjoy! Oh, and yes, there is a stand inside the airport where you can arrange for the water taxi, and then you go outside and down to the dock to board. mapleleaves Posted June 4, 2015 #4 Share Posted June 4, 2015 does your hotel have a dock? if not, be mindful of how far you might need to walk with your luggage. A private water taxi will cost about 110E. And the airport pier itself will require a walk; 7-10 minutes. Directions to reach the water taxis and aliluguna below: http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/alilaguna-and-water-taxis.htm
Rare Hlitner Posted June 4, 2015 #5 Share Posted June 4, 2015 Easiest and fastest (and the most fun) is to hire a private water taxi (as has been posted) but it is also the least economical. The Alilaguna Blu Lne is another option which costs a lot less money but is very slow and takes about 1 1/2 hours to get from the airport to St Marks Square (truly a very slooooow boat). Another option is to use the fast and comfy ATVO Express bus from the airport to the Piazale Roma, and then walk over to the ACTV (vaporetto) docks and take the Vaporetto (line 1 or 2). Personally, on our many trips to Venice we prefer to just stay at the Piazale Roma (Ca Doge) since it is very convenient. And St Marks Square is our least favorite part of Venice in the evenings as we avoid the restaurants in that area like the plague. Hank

mapleleaves Posted October 21, 2015 #8 Share Posted October 21, 2015 (edited) Hi Mapleleaves, Was the price for the private water taxi per person? If not, how many people were in your group? I appreciate any information you can give. Thanks!:) That's the price for the boat, not per person. A water taxi can hold up to 10 passengers , so whether there are 2 or 10 in your party, the cost is the same. (to make it more affordable it has been suggested that you wait near the ticket office or pier to find another couple to share the cost) The water taxi co-op site can give you an estimate depending on your destination. http://www.motoscafivenezia.it/eng/ There is also additional information in the veniceforvisitors link I posted earlier.
