Goodtime Cruizin Posted June 12, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2015 Tell me about it. I've watched a couple of videos on you-tube but it shows you only go about 6-10 ft deep. Has anyone been on this excursion and can offer anything? Thank you in advance!
Parramatta Posted June 12, 2015 #2 Share Posted June 12, 2015 Hi We did this in 2012 on an Eastern Carribbean cruise and were disappointed. The scooters are battery operated and we were in the last group (there were 3 groups) and found the batteries where going flat hence i got further by pushing myself through the water with my hands. If you were in an earlier group it may have been better. You may get more positive feedback from someone else, but for the money and what we got I would not do it again. emeraldcity Posted June 12, 2015 #3 Share Posted June 12, 2015 (edited) While I didn't go on the excursion, I encountered it. Since I was snorkeling with a small group in the same cove, I kept tying to NOT encounter it, but they kept following us and it was a challenge to try to get out of their way and avoid those orange bobbers on the surface. Clearly, the instructors need to caution the riders to watch above. I was afraid I was going to cut off their air supply with my flippers. I don't know enough about it and maybe their air is with them below, but since I'd never run into it before, I was pretty startled. truffles2 Posted June 12, 2015 #4 Share Posted June 12, 2015 We have done it and I thought it was a great experience....in fact, I did it a second time on a later cruise. It has been several years, however, and things might be a bit different now (i.e. inexperienced personnel, older equipment, etc.) If you do go, take an underwater camera; Fuji has one for around $10 at Walmart. papaflamingo Posted June 12, 2015 #5 Share Posted June 12, 2015 I'm with truffles. We did it years ago, so it may have changed, but we loved it. Did it in St. Thomas. Back then we took a boat out to a reef and went in groups of around ten. We were in the last group and all went great. You are about 10 feet under water. We went on a reef tour then circled so the diver who led us could take pictures if you had an underwater camera. Again, this was years ago, I think 2004, but I grew up snorkeling and did a bit of SCUBA when I was young. I really enjoyed this (would love to own one). But it IS expensive. The escort divers would heard people into one spot and do the ascent for them while the snorkelers were in a different spot.

Your experience was newer than mine. It might be worthwhile for someone to check recent reviews on tripadvisor. I can't remember if we dove in 2 or 3 groups. Must be time for new batteries. Hopefully that was remedied. We are going back next year, maybe I'll ask the wife if she wants to do it again. It inspired me to become certified, maybe I could find a away to dive along side. It inspired me to become certified, maybe I could find a away to dive along side. -- We were in groups of about 10 and as stated we were unfortunately the last group. To be honest it really bugged me because no matter how hard you pushed the button in - you never actually went anywhere. The guy supervising did nothing but bag us about how slow and unco-ordinated we all were, when really it was the scooters, kind of made you feel useless. Then going back to port they wanted donations/tips put in a bucket. Had a much better time at Nassau swimming with the dolphins. Hope if you go back again you get another good visit. truffles2 Posted June 12, 2015 #10 Share Posted June 12, 2015 We did it in st. Thomas and it was called BOB then. I'm sure it has changed some but is certainly still a worthwhile experience. We have some great underwater pictures. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Rare xpcdoojk Posted June 12, 2015 #11 Share Posted June 12, 2015 We did it at Playa de Americas in Tenerife, Canary Islands on a land vacation in 2006. I think it is a good experience for those who have never scuba dived. I am a certified diver, and I enjoyed it. Is it an awesome experience? No. I have no experience of other operators. jc
Goodtime Cruizin Posted June 12, 2015 Author #12 Share Posted June 12, 2015 Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll do a bit more study on it but I do think the DW would really enjoy it.
daljcl Posted June 12, 2015 #13 Share Posted June 12, 2015 We did this in 2011 and the family had a great time. My mom and I were allowed to go for the ride while the rest of the family did the BOSS excursion. they took us to a place where the first group went and the other group got to snorkle by boat. They they switched. My family would do it again.

mlmc424 Posted June 12, 2015 #15 Share Posted June 12, 2015 We did it twice several years ago - once in St. Thomas and once in Cozumel. The water was much clearer in Cozumel but in both instances the experiences were very enjoyable. The divers with us would show us things like starfish and sea urchins as well as feed fish so they would swarm around our helmets for photo ops. An underwater camera enhances the experience.
