scienceteacher Posted July 2, 2015 #1 Share Posted July 2, 2015 I was wondering if bug spray would be a necessity in ports such as Panama and Limon, Costa Rica.
BillB48 Posted July 2, 2015 #2 Share Posted July 2, 2015 Generally no, usually the places when mosquitoes are present is when you happen to be outside urban centers in heavily wooded areas. Even then they are usually only a problem around sunrise and sunset.

Rare Keith1010 Posted July 2, 2015 #4 Share Posted July 2, 2015 In the past I would have said no but on our recent cruise we used insect repellent in many ports due to concerns about Chikungunya. Our cruise line recommended this. So I would bring it with you and then make your decision while on the ship. Keith
Northern Aurora Posted July 4, 2015 #5 Share Posted July 4, 2015 I am rather late to this discussion, but just wanted to comment that we have been buying insect repellant wipes (a product similar to the moistened towelettes). These individually packaged wipes are perfect for traveling -- I keep two in a pocket of my travel purse/small pack. Very compact and no concerns about potential leakage of a spray bottle. OCruisers Posted July 4, 2015 #6 Share Posted July 4, 2015 We use OFF Backwoods for Sportsmen in small & convenient 1 oz. spray containers. Mostly found in stores where hunting/fishing equipment is sold. :D LuLu
scienceteacher Posted July 4, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted July 4, 2015 Thanks for the feedback. I will be bringing some kind of deterrant as the biting bugs always seem to find me.
grams98 Posted August 25, 2015 #8 Share Posted August 25, 2015 I would like to add that the dengue fever mosquitoes bite during the day. Personally, if I am going off the ship and into the port, I spray myself before disembarking for safety sake. Hope this helps, grams98
