Generally no, usually the places when mosquitoes are present is when you happen to be outside urban centers in heavily wooded areas. Even then they are usually only a problem around sunrise and sunset.

In the past I would have said no but on our recent cruise we used insect repellent in many ports due to concerns about Chikungunya. Our cruise line recommended this.

 

So I would bring it with you and then make your decision while on the ship.

I am rather late to this discussion, but just wanted to comment that we have been buying insect repellant wipes (a product similar to the moistened towelettes). These individually packaged wipes are perfect for traveling -- I keep two in a pocket of my travel purse/small pack. Very compact and no concerns about potential leakage of a spray bottle.

I would like to add that the dengue fever mosquitoes bite during the day. Personally, if I am going off the ship and into the port, I spray myself before disembarking for safety sake. Hope this helps, grams98
