Carnival Dream from NOLO Disembark question

Hello all:

 

This will be our first cruise out of New Orleans and the only flight leaving that is affordable is at 11:20am....Ship is suppose to dock at 8am.

 

I have never needed to request to be in an early zone when leaving and I hear the airport is about a 40 min ride from the ship.

 

For anyone that has taken this cruise...Do you think I will be able to make an 11:20am flight after disembarking the DREAM and clearing airport security?

You also need to clear Immigration and Customs when you depart the ship.

 

Methinks that you are going to have a pretty stress filled morning if you try to make that flight.

Carnival recommends that the earliest flight you should book post-cruise out of MSY is 1:00 pm. I'm sure they say that for a reason.

Bunk! Self disembark - typically around 8:15 am. Allow 30 minutes for customs and immigration. (Hint: Don't buy anything questionable or take food off the ship. Have documents in hand - best to have passports.) Take a taxi to the airport (25 - 30 minutes drive at most) you will be fine. PS: use of porters at the pier may result in you being in a shorter line, but at 8:15 the line is not all that long anyway. You just have to get off in the first or second group.

I would not do this but it is your choice.

 

Look at other flight options or fly home the next day.

My friend just got back Thursday from her cruise. We live in New Orleans. They had FTTF and carried their luggage off themselves. They were off the ship by 8:30 and took a taxi and arrived home by 9:15.
