Pride water park issue

Just read in the review section, what I would think to be a cruiser that just got off the Pride Sunday saying, "One of the reasons i picked this ship was the waterslide it has .. and it was broken the whole cruise."

Curious if anyone just got off the Pride and could shed some light on that...

Yes, I was on that cruise and the green "monster" was under repair all week (oddly, it did have water running through it all week). It didn't affect me. I had no desire to go down it, and my son isn't tall enough. The yellow one was working just fine and my son loved it. The green slide is one of those where the floor drops out. To be honest, it looked incredibly tame compared to similar slides I've seen on other ships and water parks.

We sailed on the Pride June 28-July 5 and Green Thunder was down all week with the exception of embarkation day. It was a bit disappointing since my kids had been eager to try it after watching YouTube videos of it. I'm surprised to hear in continued to not work this past week as they kept acting like it would be fixed any time. Hopefully it is up and running soon!

Really...do folks book and pay for a vacation because of a slide? Really?

Maybe not but it is a nice perk for a kid since pools are small and cant really play, slides give them an outlet

Pretty awful it was down for a couple of cruises, my 12 yr old would be quite disappointed since it was a new perk

Yes, people do. I personally do not and my original post did not say that.

We have been fortunate to have cruised numerous times as a family. We have a family that will be joining us this year that have never really been able to take a vacation, of any kind, ever.... The children were looking forward to the slides and that was the reason for my inquiry.

So, I'm curious, Why is it so important to you to determine what is important on someone's vacation?

When we took a family vote between Pride and RC Grandeur all three of my kids voted Pride simply bc of the slides. The green drop slide was down all last week and still when we disembarked Sunday  We inquired a couple times and the phrase was the same, "under repairs", even though we saw that water was running through and didn't see anyone actually working on it. Didn't ruin our cruise but it sure was disappointing!

Traveling with two kids, neither of whom enjoy going in the crowded pools, yes we will aim for a ship with waterworks first. Now the green thunder is a bit much for my oldest, but the younger one would have been quite disappointed if it was down the entire cruise.

It the slide is up and running, the kids can use it. If is is still deemed unsafe and in need of repairs they can't. I think there would be plenty to do even for kids that have never been on vacation before.

Maybe they were waiting on a part that is not available in the ocean.

These kinds of post puzzle me. What does it matter if it is broken or working today. What matters is the status when I am there.

If they do routine maintance like say Disney does, then they should put out a schedule so you would know in advance, but when it has been determined something is unsafe, then I want it closed down until it is fixed and I do not care if it is on my cruise or yours.

Maybe it matters because Carnival used it in their marketing of the ship to entice consumers to cruise on it. ~ Again, not in my case but Carnival would have not put this in dry dock and upgraded that area had they not felt it was important in a consumer aspect and a financial one for them as well.

Maybe it simply matters so I can prepare the children for the possibility that it has not been working for some time it seems and that they should just be aware of that. (Wallyworld)

Maybe it matters because like other things that may be important to you on your vacation, you would like to know if there has been in an issue prior to your boarding. (Hurricanes and access to islands/shore excursions comes to mind on past cruises I have taken)

And obviously if the slide has been deemed unsafe, it should be closed. I didn't ask why it was not operational, just if it had been.

I don't know why anyone is ouzzled. GMAB. If the serenity deck had been closed for an entire cruise or half the casino, or most of the bars, or any one of the many other things people enjoy, it would be understandsble. But because it was the slide, all of a sudden some can't comprehend that it could be a let down to a kid. And by the way, plenty of adults wouldn't like it either.

Common sense says that yes it is better closed if it's not working properly. I think the OP was simply taking a poll of sorts to see if this is something that happens often. Regardless of routine maintenance, there are machines that have a habit of breaking down frequently. It could be anything, so I'm not getting the issue with the thread by some.

Yes they are plenty of other things to do onboard. And it's a good thing that the Pride has two slides. I saw in another review where a kid got stuck in it. Right where the shoot releases.

I would have been disappointed too, but it wouldn't ruin my cruise. I don't book a specific ship because of a waterslide either. Things break. I went to Noahs ark last year at the dells and one of their waterslides was down, I went to Disney world in January, splash mountain was down, I was disappointed, but definitely didn't ruin my vacation. some people

Thanks again recent cruisers for the first hand information.

I understand I am a “newbie” on here when it comes to posting. I was not looking to cause any opinionated discussions regarding my original post. I was just trying to gain some insight, that is what a forum like this should be for I believe. (To educate, inform and share/enjoy the common interest we obviously all have.)

Anyways, I had no interest in going down any slide. I think after this discussion, I should give it a go!:) (if it’s open)

Safe waters and sunshine to all.

Does anyone have any current information about this? Has the problem been fixed? Asking for a friend who is leaving Sunday. Their 14 yr old son is really looking forward to the slide. I know they will have a great time either way though. Thanks for any information. :D

I got talking to one of the staff operating the Green Thunder on the Legend (which to my knowledge has not broke yet) and he said that if the weight pad (the one that you stand on and drops away) is broken/faulty it needs to be completely replaced and then rigorously tested for safety.

Since water was going through it could this be the problem?

Personally, I would have been peeved if it was not working but safety comes first. We hated the yellow slide as it was too slow.

Is the Miracle the only Spirit class ship without the Green Thunder now? The other 3 definitely have it.

I consider myself a waterslide connoisseur . The green thunder is spectacular!! Sorry to hear it was down , hopefully it'll be fixed up in a years time. Slides on the Sunshine were tremendous too, you really reach break neck speeds. Green Thunder gives an immediate adrenaline rush!

We used the Green Thunder on the Legend when in Alaska during our turnaround time In Tracy Arm Fjord. There were maybe ten people all together that went down the slide, and you can bet it was a highlight for us, just like seeing the glaciers!
