White Bay ferry service

Recommended Posts

Sorry, muffin. We've been indulging in a bit of local banter. :o

WB is White Bay Cruise Terminal.

OPT is the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay.

At the moment the only way to get to White Bay is by taxi, shuttle bus (if provided) or private car. There is no other easy public transport option to the city. A ferry would provide a direct link from White Bay to the new Barangaroo development on the north-western side of the city, with a pedestrian link to the Wynyard train station. Passengers embarking or disembarking without too much luggage would be able to use this option instead of a taxi. Also passengers on B2Bs or port stops would also have a cheaper and easier way to get to the city and main tourist attractions.

From Potts Point it would be best to get a taxi though.

Great post, to also clarify, the Bangaroo development is basically a casino complex, hence all the banter about buffets dancing girls and roulette. I agree about the taxi from Potts Point if going to either WB or the OPT with luggage.:D

Shows you don't pay attention :p as I did mention it in the cable car discussion but didn't post the link.

Me not pay attention?:confused::confused:

Now I resemble that remark :p

Muffin one thing you may find if you stay in Aus [or even on the Aus NZ threads for long] is that this type of banter [read BS if you like] is common.

WB is White Bay Cruise Terminal.

OPT is the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay.

Sorry for the abbreviations. :o

Typically they built White Bay wthout any infrastructure.

A ferry service is something many of us have been calling for for a while now, it would make life so much easier for those sailing from White Bay.

Yep.

Yes, great news but agree easier from the Quay!

BTW - great to hear from you again Graham. Have you got the OPT up to scratch yet? I'll be checking it out again in November!

Gae

I agree Circular Quay does seem a little more convenient but once the Wynyard Walk project is complete I think it will be just as good.

As far as the OPT upgrade goes, I have left that in the hands of the builders while I take my annual six months leave:D but I believe the final stage, which is the renovation of the old check in level should be complete well before the start of the season in October.

Bet there is no red carpet treatment for you with Princess ;);)

SHE already wants to know how I'm going to fix that. SHE is used to it now.

I was at a diner last night and sat with a person who I suspect may know what's going on (I also suspect may have been gbenjo's source). He said that they are trying to decide between a few options:

A. WB to near CBD PROBABLY near Bangaroo or King Street only running on mornings ships at White Bay

B. incorporate White Bay into one of the daily services, perhaps (I think he said) Balmain to Circular Quay.

From what was said if they go with A It will probably run from about 7:00-1:00 as needed. The question is transport from CBD end.

B. has ready transport at CQ end, but overcrowding is a potential issue with regular commuters and then a few hundred people with luggage.

Any thoughts on those options?

The person you had dinner with was absolutely definitely NOT my source and I do not know ;) the operational details of the service at this time so I cannot confirm or deny.:D although option A (or parts of) have more going for it.

Wish I knew how to do multiple quotes:(:(

To multi quote hit the quotation mark [next to the quote button] on the ones you want to quote it should turn red [i think there is a limit on how many you can multi quote] then hit the quote button on the last one you have tagged.

Hi Folks

Oh dear sounds like Graham has organized another "Red Carpet Special" and me having canceled my next departure from OPT in favor of "Station Pier" (Melbourne)

I wonder if we can persuade Graham to come to Melbourne so we can get the "special" treatment we deserve ?

:p

Regards

John

I can just see it now a champagne buffet and dancing girls all the way to White bay ....

:D

Unfortunately The Red Carpet had to be shelved last season due to an "equipment malfunction" (and the electrician pinched it )and if you are sailing from Melbourne on your next cruise you are obviously not sailing Royal Caribbean or Celebrity so therefore are not worthy of the Red Carpet Treatment from me........unless of course you want to pay my airfare down to Melbourne on the day:D:D

Congestion is, I understand a big issue if they went to the Quay as well.

The person I was talking to indicated that the powers that be were aware of the discussion here about the transport problems.

I think any ferry service from anywhere will be an improvement on what is offered now.

hey mic , I havn't been to White Bay for a couple of years. Is there any long term parking there or near by

Short answer is 'I don't know' but I believe there isn't any. In the past I have got the train to Central and then got a taxi (or the prearranged shuttle). The taxi cost ($30-50 depending on traffic) works out cheaper per person if more than two and is quicker and easier.

I thought it may have been the size of those stomping on it that caused the damage.

But perhaps the electrician's need was greater than ours. He might have needed to patch the carpet at home.

believe not.

I have only ever picked people up there, never departed myself, but last time I was there they had signs posted about not parking long term and I cannot think of anywhere close by that you would be able to park.

Says

This is only short-term parking, there is no long-term parking available. No car parking on-site is allowed on non ship days and the site is controlled by security who will order the towing of any vehicle left on-site
