Keeping Ids,Cell phones and Credit cards safe on board?

Recommended Posts

The only problem with the safe is that if someone wants to get in it all they have to do is reset the combination  I never thought about it till my boyfriend pointed it out to me last time. haha

Unless you have the security key, you cannot reset the combination unless the safe is already open.

Pretty sure the safe has to start in the unlocked position before you are allowed to set a new code. Once it is locked, it requires certain staff personnel to open it without the current lock code.

Any tips on keeping these things safe from being stolen? I can't imagine they are often stolen, but I just find myself feeling very paranoid about these things. We are only bringing on the must-haves to minimize any worry.

Thanks!

put them in the cabin safe.

I love my Kyss bag for keeping things safe on the beach. I've carried it all over the Caribbean. People ask me about it, and some even write the name down so they can remember to get one. Oh, and they come in different sizes, etc.

As others have said I don't think that can be done if it is LOCKED.:)

Wow this is great!!! Thanks for sharing :)

My only thought is wondering of people have scissors and can cut through the cloth, but I doubt most people go to the beach with scissors and probably would just move on to the next bag. I'm gonna buy one of these. Which size do you have and is that a good size for a beach bag to carry snorkel gear, towel, and other little things like cameras, phones and wallets?

EDIT: I just read the fine print at the bottom that mentions it's slash resistant. They should mention that in the video :)

Yes, it is "slash" resistant, but if someone really wanted in, they could get through, IF given enough time-- not generally something someone would do, to, walking down a crowded beach.

I got the medium one. It will hold 2 beach towels, masks & snorkels and my camera, with room to spare. You can put your sun tan lotion, bottled water, etc. on the outside in the net pockets. I believe you would need the large one if you wanted to add a pair of fins.

You can also personalize them with initials, embrodery, etc.

Great, thanks again!! I'm very excited about this bag :) J just tried to order the large (we have fins) but noticed they are on a 3-4 week shipping lag time. I'm trying to find out how quickly the priority shipping will get here because we leave in 9 days. My guess is it's too late to get it for this trip but I will buy one regardless because I can make use of it on other trips and for other activities. I can probably make these my Christmas gifts this year too.

I actually have had jewelry items I purchased on the ship stolen on the last sea day. Also I never use the safe for anything of real value. I have had to get someone to come unlock my safe because it wouldn't so I conclude that some of personnel CAN get into all safes. I just leave valuable jewelry at home just to be really SAFE .

I carried my cell with me at all times--not for calls--but for photos. I did not bring my bulky camera. Credit cards, money, pass ports--I kept locked in my safe. I only carried enough cash each day for a stop at the slots in casino.

If I had to worry about replaceable crap being stolen....We'd probably not bother to cruise.

A bigger concern should be wacked by a truck driving in the left lane while you are looking the other way.

Life is too short!

As others have said we leave our ipads in a drawer. Laptop on the desk and passports, mney and credit cards in the safe. We have never had a problem.

We also only take a copy of the passport on land unless it is specifically requested to bring the original.

We have had problems with the safe and 2 people did come to open it.

My husband thought I was nuts but after the Costa Concordia incident I bought a waterproof bag to hold the passports, cards, money and cell. The issue those people had was when they got to shore they had nothing call people with or credits cards etc. This was all wll be dry if I have to swim to safety.

The safe is usually at least big enough for a couple of cell phones, ipods, kindles, wallets, passports, *small* cameras, etc. I don't bring anything larger than that with me, but I get that some people need to bring laptops for work or want to have a nice camera with them on vacation. I leave my suitcase under the bed...if I brought a laptop or any other larger electronics, I'd probably leave it locked up there (in between the dirty clothes :D)...it's not very easy to see from outside, and even if someone tried to sneak in while the door was open, it takes some doing to get the suitcase out from under the bed...it's not something that someone passing by is going to think "Oh, let's see what they have under the bed" and be able to grab it. ;)

The safe is adequate for everything my wife and I take ! As we are on hoilday, we NEVER take cell phones or laptops or ipads...NEVER ! They are left at home for our return ( to Australia). Try it, you'll find you rarely if ever need them.........if you cant live without them on vacation, review your lifestyle and enjoy cruisin' ! lol :)

I use my tablet for reading. I like to read. Especially when on vacation. I don't get nearly as much free time the rest of my life.

I use my phone as GPS and navigation before and after the cruise. It also contains my budget software, so I can track our spending to make sure we don't exceed our budget while traveling (requires little effort, but the convenience is important). It also serves as my alarm clock, which is sometimes needed on port days.

ETA: I don't use them for connectivity. I've never purchased an internet package.

Some of us use our Ipads or Kindles for reading, or entertaining the kids in the evening before bed, so we do bring them aboard. I'm not very trusting so I only recharge over night, into the safe or with me at other times. I can't leave them out unattended.

I am guilty of peeking(never ever setting foot in) other cabins as I walk down the halls. How else do you see what they look like?

So I would expect others to peek into my room as they walk by, and I have returned once to find my room blocked open for cleaning, finished, still open, and attendant nowhere to be found. It Happens.

For the phones, it's not a matter of living without them. It's a safety issue for me. What if I'm in a port of call and need to call an ambulance or the police? Or if I rent a car and it breaks down? I also use my phone as my primary point-and-shoot camera for when I don't want to pull out my DSLR.

I use my iPad for reading and games, so that always comes too. I usually don't take it with me off the boat though unless I know we're spending time at the beach and I'll be able to do some reading.

Always interesting how different we all are. I would hqve said the same thing before this last cruise. We recently got married on Adventure OTS while at sea, and I had long made up my mind that she would not want for anything for this trip, so spared no expense. This of course included buying an internet package for the first time while on a cruise. We loved it. We were by no means tied to our devises but it really did enhance our trip, significantly.

i ran at every port and was able to map out the general route before hand, we were able to learn alittle bit the countries where our waiters and cabin steward were from, i was able to do a little research on available cruises before booking at the "next cruise desk". We found a nice rastifarian restaurant on antigua and a great deli on st croix (turtle?somethin?, i highly recommend it.)

Sure we could live without it and it was expensive for how much we actually used it, but it was really nice having it available and i will probably continue to get it

PLEASE remember NOT TO USE your cabin or suite number for your safe code !!

If you have valuables you can also have jewelry etc put in the ships vault at no cost.

The safe's are very small but we don't take much of value either but we do use the safe for jewelry, passports and some money. My camera is tiny and I carry it most of the time. YES doors are left open while the cabin is being cleaned and I suppose thieves would watch for that.

Never had a problem on a cruise.

Happy cruising everyone. I will be setting sail in about 7 weeks on Grandeur.:D

My husband had a set of gold cuff links stolen from a RCCL cruise ship. Granted he was careless when getting dressed for a final formal night. He didn't use those cuff links, but left them out in a closed box marked 14k.

We didn't realize the loss until we were home. Lesson learned.

On a side note, how do you all keep your stuff safe at the beach while in port? This trip I'll be having several beach days (not on an excursion) and expect that most of the time, the whole group will be in the water. How do you keep your things safe then? Are you always having to keep an eye on your things or is there a special "beach safe" you can buy that locks to a tree or a pole

Or something? If not maybe I need to invent one :)

Google KYSS bags. Keep Your Stuff Safe. They come in different sizes, colors. They have a chain that loops through the zippers to keep it zipped and then you can loop it around a table leg, lounge chair, palm tree to keep it where you leave it.... A mid-sized expense for a huge peace of mind! :)

Hi Hi Hi!

I just ordered this from Amazon for my shore excursion:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AW2QT8I?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

I even tested it and put a paper towel inside and filled my sink full of water. Kept in there for about 20 mins and took the paper towel out and it was dry! WIN!!!

I also put my cell phone (samsung galaxy s5), passport (was a tight fit to get it in) and credit cards and everything fit perfectly.

You can also still you your phone while its in the case if you wanted to take photos! :)

My cruise isn't till October so I'll have a better review of it after that! :) Hope this helps!
