Bands by pool

I haven't cruised Carnival in many years but I heard they stopped the bands playing Caribbean music by the pool. Is this correct???

Yes, sad but true. Most ships now have a DJ. But, there is hope! It has been said that Carnival is bringing back the steel drums and Caribbean music! :D

And, the key word here is....it has been said. JH has been saying this for quite some time but nothing has emerged.

 

OP, on some ships such as the Breeze you will find a guitar player by the pool, sometimes.

Never saw what the DJ adds to anything. Would love to see real live music coming back

On our recent cruises on the Breeze and Valor there was live music by the pool on a few days.

Listening to live Caribbean music by the pool is a big cruise factor for me.

I saw an urgent casting call recently for the Calypso bands so maybe. I missed the music too. We did have a soloist play for a couple hours on sea days on the Elation last week.

On the Pride a couple weeks ago they did have the lounge acts playing by the pool on the last sea day. The rest was all a very loud DJ. Noise never bothers me, and I like all music, but it was ridiculously loud. You couldn't hear people talking to you. Fortunately, they did have another pool with no music.

Hope they keep it the way it is. Enjoy a variety of music at the pool with the DJ. Would be extremely boring listing to the same band/type of music every day for the entire cruise. Just off the Sunshine and enjoyed the live bands in the evening. Great variety for everyone.

I'm with you...I love reggae and dancehall but steel drum music makes me want to claw my ears off. We just got off the Triumph and they had Caribbean music before noon followed by the DJ and/or a guitar player in the afternoon. Thought it was perfect.

Just off the Breeze July 4 cruise. There was a two-piece Caribbean duo on Lido deck in the afternoon - "Frontside Duo." I enjoyed them. They also did sets in the Red Frog Pub. Other Lido music was the DJ and a solo guitar player (also very good).

The duo groups were awful when it was just a keyboard and a drum machine. I hope these haven't returned. I like this type of music but it has to be more than two and absolutely with a steel drum. The last time I saw a steel drum on a Carnival ship was on the Spirit in '04. If they have returned to the duos, then I'm all for the dj.

I've seen a single guitar singer, a duo playing guitars and singing, and a DJ at the main Lido deck pool on my recent cruises. There has not been a singer or group who has been at the pool every day as they vary the times and locations where they play throughout the ship during the day.
