cthrn27 Posted August 2, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 2, 2015 Hello. Getting ready and wondering about traveling with meds. Can I take the meds in daily pill cases of do I need to keep them in the labelled pharmacy bottles??? I know to keep them with me and NOT in the SuIT case... Any other advice? Thanks🌸
Barbluvstocruz Posted August 2, 2015 #2 Share Posted August 2, 2015 Pill case...in your carry-on is perfectly fine. I also put the pill case in a ziploc just in case anything pops open. Have a great trip! :)
Budget Queen Posted August 2, 2015 #3 Share Posted August 2, 2015 Well the safest way is to keep then in their original containers, which I always do. This is especially useful, in an emergency, if you end up in a hospital, need refills, plus many other situations. Sure a lot of people do not. I deal with a LOT of medications in my travels, have had a lot of health care issues, just reporting from a conservative perspective, that lives depend on. love my grandkids Posted August 2, 2015 #4 Share Posted August 2, 2015 We typically drive to ports and dont like to take all of my pill bottles so just before the cruise will take about a 25 day supply for a 7-8 day cruise with all pills and vitamins in two bottles. Having said this not getting any younger and will think about Budget Queens post.
Havingfun2010 Posted August 2, 2015 #5 Share Posted August 2, 2015 Don't know what the big deal is bringing medicine in original bottles. It's the recommended way, and best way. We never have any issues carrying some extra pill bottles.
lizardhowson Posted August 2, 2015 #6 Share Posted August 2, 2015 Unless you are taking something like a Schedule IV narcotic, a daily pill case will be fine. There is no requirement they be in original dispenser vial.
fedup129 Posted August 2, 2015 #7 Share Posted August 2, 2015 We always use a pill case. However the narcotics that we carry for chronic pain is always in the original bottle.
chocolate melting cake Posted August 2, 2015 #8 Share Posted August 2, 2015 We carry ours in a daily pill case--but we had the pharmacy print extra labels in case we're questioned on the meds. We've done it this way for about 20 cruises and have never been asked to produce the labels, but it's an extra precaution.
LadyGal4 Posted August 2, 2015 #9 Share Posted August 2, 2015 I've never been questioned about any medicines, and I bring A LOT. But just for safety, I do keep the stronger pain medicines in their original container. I also bring small quantities of all my "just in case" medicines. Cough/cold medicines, antacids, nausea, ibuprofen, Benadryl, neosporin, and band aids. The last cruise I didn't pack band aids, and the medical office wanted to charge me 3 dollars for 5 little band aids....I made tissue paper work. Flatbush Flyer Posted August 2, 2015 #10 Share Posted August 2, 2015 Just get a "back panel" from your pharmacist (called a "history" in sone states.
KenMo Posted August 3, 2015 #11 Share Posted August 3, 2015 Like others have said, I use a pill box inside a zip-loc. The narcs I keep in the original bottle. I always keep them in my carry-on. We don't have any drugs that our lives depend on, so we don't worry too much about it.
thomarvin Posted August 3, 2015 #12 Share Posted August 3, 2015 When i get the last refill before my trip I keep the bottle and take the original bottles and then fill my 7 day box when i get on the ship and then throw away the bottles when we leave. i always take a few extra day worth and refill the container with the extras. i would rather have the bottles than risk them being taken away and me stuck with no meds. just IMO
love my grandkids Posted August 3, 2015 #13 Share Posted August 3, 2015 Learned something new. Since we dont travel with narcotics will continue to take a bunch of extra pills and just carry to pill bottles.
skrufy Posted August 3, 2015 #14 Share Posted August 3, 2015 When flying I take the pill bottles and pill case with me. Do not trust what the TSA will do. Saying that TSA has never questioned my meds stored in my carry on.
cb at sea Posted August 3, 2015 #15 Share Posted August 3, 2015 You can carry them however you want. No one questions, unless you have TONS of narcotics!
You Me & the Sea Posted August 3, 2015 #16 Share Posted August 3, 2015 I've always taken my bp meds and sch IV narcotics in a pill box but I must agree that keeping the narcs in the original bottle is much wiser. Will likely start doing so.

Will likely start doing so. Although I agree with the Narcotics in their own container, I've become a doubting Thomas. When I needed to bring my pain meds, I put them in my box and labeled them generically like vitamin c. In this day and age how would you know if a few "slipped" out of the bottle during cleaning with the bottle clearly marked? Just food for thought:)

dmdiver Posted August 3, 2015 #20 Share Posted August 3, 2015 My vitamins are in a pill box, but my thyroid & bp meds are in labeled rx bottles. Since they are absolute necessities, I want extra with me in case of any delays and the labeled bottles if I were to be hospitalized or be delayed long enough to need refills. I don't have any controlled substances, but if I did, I would keep them in labeled rx bottles and put them in the safe when not in the room. GerryC Posted August 3, 2015 #24 Share Posted August 3, 2015 TSA does not require passengers to have medications in prescription bottles, but states have individual laws regarding the labeling of prescription medication with which passengers need to comply. LadyGal4 Posted August 3, 2015 #25 Share Posted August 3, 2015 (edited) Sneaking your narcotics in a Vit C bottle won't deter a drug sniffing dog. They know the difference. If I get stopped, I want proof that those narcotics are mine legally. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Edited August 3, 2015 by LadyGal4
