Pillow contents...non-suite?

I would try to contact the hotel director for your ship, or look for a number for special needs/special requests. You have an allergy, its not like you're just being picky. The special needs folks should be able to help. Good luck, and enjoy your cruise :D:D:D

That'd be fine, gross, but fine. Lol

But seriously, I'm allergic to down and I have noticed more hotels switching to down. I called Ncl and the person didn't know, which I thought was weird. I just need it to be anything except down.

that's a very good point that I never thought of...I'm very allergic as well.

Our pillows on the Pearl were a mix. Although I just have a preference for the feel of down and usually buy Ikea's like-down pillows so I don't know if the ones I used were actual down or the newer synthetic.

You should definitely contact the special needs desk. You can find the number on their website or I found this email address when I was searching for info on food allergies: accessdesk@ncl.com

They will have someone from your actual ship follow-up with you. If there is a mix they can make sure that only non-down is placed in your room.

A search provided me the wonderful list of pillow options for haven suites, but I am trying to find out the contents of pillows for regular rooms. Is it polyester or foam or down?

You could take your own pillow! If you do then just make sure the cabin steward knows not to take it!

My daughter and I are also very allergic to down and I have noticed that more hotels are switching to down. I always bring my own pillow its sort of a family joke. I will leave behind shoes, clothing anything to bring my pillow.

But since my whole family can not all bring their pillows, cause the cases only fit so much and I am mommy that is why :-)

We have just checked the pillows when we arrive at our cabin and meet our steward and have any down switched out immediately. They have always been able to with no issues. I have found a mix of pillows some down and some poly fill.

At home I have white pillow cases but I always put on a color case to travel with so I can tell easily if it my pillow and it reduces the risk of it being left behind or my very expensive cases switched out by the steward.

Great question and info. DH is allergic to down also and it makes European travel more difficult. We carry two hypoallergenic zippered pillow cases, but it's a pain to have to remember to take them off every morning so as not to loose them. This trip will be 80 nights with 2 cruises, 3 escorted trours and a bunch of connections.

i put a note into ncl, our transatlantic home, about the allergy but I always chech the pillows myself. I've learned to look for the little telltale feathers inside their cases to figure out if the contents is natural or synthetic as often times the tags have been ripped off or are too faded from laundering to be readable.

I'm allergic to down. I've been on 14 NCL cruises, including the Pearl this past May and the Jewel not long before, and never encountered a down pillow in my balcony cabins. Sometimes they feel like down, but it is fake down (I peeled off all the coverings and checked).

I have the problem with hotels too. When we make our reservations we always say "no down or feathers" in the reservation comments, but it doesn't always work. It can be a big problem on foreign trips: I have learned to say "I am allergic to feathers" or "I need synthetic pillows" in all kinds of languages, including Hungarian! China is a BIG problem. Down pillows, down mattress covers, down comforters. When you ask to be switched out, you can end up in a very hard bed, because there is no mattress cover.
