Balcony or mini suite

Some other differences between a balcony and a mini-suite:

• With a mini-suite, you receive a free glass of champagne on embarkation.
  
• Suggested gratuities are higher for a mini-suite. For a balcony or lower, they are $11.50 per person per day. For a mini-suite or higher, they are $12.00 per day per person.
  
• Mini-suite has tub with shower in tub. Balcony has (small) shower. The mini-suite tub has more room. However, you can walk in to the balcony shower without having to step over a wall like you do in the tub - a difference for someone with knee problems.

The decision seems like a no brainer to take the mini suite, but what do i do if they put us on Emerald deck above the disco? Is the noise that bad?

Not just Emerald - no Princess ship is going to have an obstructed view from from a Mini.

You can go on the Princess website right now and book a specific Dolphin deck mini, at least in the aft section. You don't have to leave it to chance.

 

Just checked and every section except for the forward fifth will let you pick your own Dolphin mini. We're still talking about the Emerald Princess on Nov. 2, right?

 

Also, you might want to check prices again. You started out with the prices being similar and the minis are quite a bit more than the balconies now. These prices change frequently.

Word of caution - a mini suite can make it very difficult to go back to a balcony for your next cruise. :)

 

 

On our last cruise we got a free upgrade from a balcony GTY to a mini suite. Absolutely loved it.. Want one again..

 

Do you think Princess didn't know that would happen when they gave us that upgrade?? :rolleyes:

We have had minis on Emerald and loved them... The area gets very little foot traffic and overall is quiet and the balcony is fully covered and private. We didn't have problems with noise from public spaces.

I would choose the mini over the balcony cabin because of the extra space, but beware if you or your cabin mate is taller than average. My DH is 6'5" and had to stoop in the shower/ tub combo. The tub is elevated, so the head room is reduced.

Always go for a Mini-suite because the last 3 times I did, we received a very favorable up-sell to a suite for pennys! Go for the good life!
