orchards Posted September 20, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 20, 2015 We are on Oceania 10 day cruise leaving Rio on Dec 12 and arriving Buenos Aires where we will take a transfer to the local airport for a flight. At start of trip, will convert dollars into Brazilian money. How do I plan to get cash needed for shore visits in Uruguay? Cash needed to pay the transfer from the Buenos Aires port to the local airport?
Rare PaulMCO Posted September 20, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 20, 2015 USD is king in Buenos Aires. You could as we did book a transfer in advance and pay by credit card. We used last time Transargentina. Used them EZE to hotel and AEP to EZE. Both times service was quick and efficient.
wripro Posted September 20, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 20, 2015 Use an ATM.
orchards Posted September 20, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted September 20, 2015 may have missed it at the many other ports, but never saw an ATM at the port terminals....airports certainly but not ports. Are you saying this as general suggestion or do you know that the port in Buenos Aires has an ATM
grmmybtty Posted September 22, 2015 #5 Share Posted September 22, 2015 Our experience in Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina last year was that the taxi drivers and vendors all took USD. In fact prices were quoted in USD, most probably due to their unstable currency.
Queen of DaNile Posted September 22, 2015 #6 Share Posted September 22, 2015 Orchards you may want to hop on the Roll Call for this cruise. There might be some excursion/transfer sharing opportunities. Thanks grmmybtty for the USD info.
Paulchili Posted September 22, 2015 #7 Share Posted September 22, 2015 I don't know that I would jump just into any cab in BA. Have heard horror stories about cabs on our last visit there. Best to book a transfer with a "reputable" company recommended on TA, IMO

Are you saying this as general suggestion or do you know that the port in Buenos Aires has an ATM I was making a general comment. I don't know if there's an ATM at the port. You can always get $100 worth of pesos before leaving, then get the bulk of your cash from an ATM.
