I have read that carnival has rerouted the Pride and Valor around Nassau I think and NCL has rerouted or canceled one of their ports (either Nassau or GT cant remember). Its not looking good for anything in that area starting tomorrow.

Even without any sort of direct hit, it is quite likely to be a "rocky ride".

My brother is on the Fascination right now. Today was their last sea day poking along headed to port in the morning. He said they announced earlier they had a wind swell and a hurricane swell coming up from behind. The Captain put it in "outrun the hurricane" mode and hauled butt to get north and closer to the coast. He said they had 6+ foot swells and the boat was rolling. And around 6pm CST were about 10-12 hours ahead of schedule. They are currently hovering 30 miles off the coast about 2 hours from Jax port where they will stay the night. Thankfully they got the ship in gear and got outta Dodge. He said all was well currently (about 7pm CST). At first they weren't sure if they were going to be able to get into port in the morning or hang out another day at sea, but he thinks all will be well and they'll disembark on time.

I'm loving Carnival's new social media package he bought - because that's how I'm getting my info directly from the ship. For $5 a day.

Safe Travels to all!

I'm scheduled to leave tomorrow on the Fantasy headed to Nassau/Freeport. Any thoughts on the possible effects of Joaquin?

I live in Nassau, Bahamas. The seas are a little rough around the island but not bad, you will be able to dock because the port is situated between downtown and Paradise island so the water is calm in the harbor. It's beautiful sunny weather here but I don't know what it looks like on the seas. The storm should be away from our waters by friday.

I expect this to not be an issue, if the storm moves according to projections. By Friday night at sailaway time it should be north of Nassau and moving away

You must not understand geography. They leave tomorrow night. The storm will be just north of the bahamas. Charleston lies directly north of the bahamas. The hurricane will be sitting between charleston and nassau. For those on this cruise you are in for one hell of a ride, if it isn't canceled

We are on Fascination in the morning. Glad it made it to port without issues. I'm expecting tomorrow and Friday to be pretty rough. After that I expect it will be ok. Maybe Freeport will get cancelled and we will head to Key West instead... I'm not a Freeport fan.

The lack of agreement among the models for this storm is amazing. The one thing they all agree on is a major course change that will put Joaquin right over the Bahama ports for the weekend. It looks as if most of the models are now starting to pull together and show it heading for the North Carolina coast. It is now a category 3 storm. Can you think of a more disruptive scenario that this boys and girls?

He hasn't made it into port yet. She's off the coast of St. Augustine right now (about 40-50 miles away). I just talked to my brother around 10:30pm CST and he had no idea it was now a Cat 3. He assured me the Captain had a Plan B in case they can't get under the bridge due to high seas and clearance. I asked what Plan B was - because inquiring minds wanna know! I'm still wondering.

If they make it into port on time you should be good for embarkation. If anything they will want to get beyond the Daines Bridge as quickly as possible and get out to sea. Ships in port during a hurricane is not a good thing.

I hope you have a wonderful, uneventful cruise. And if you have to give up a port - I hope it's Freeport. I'm not a fan either. I'm cruising on her Thanksgiving week and can't wait!

Bon Voyage!

A relatively major shift to the east for the projected track has happened overnight. The other projections are starting to come closer to the European model which has the storm heading northeast and away from land. The 11 AM update will be most interesting and may tell the tale.

Well she left. Probably a good thing she sailed today as it is supposed to get really bad later this weekend here in Charleston (not because of the hurricane directly) with major flooding. The downtown has lots of road closures and will most likely be more this weekend. On a side note, the fear and panic mode the weather channel is in is quiet different than the local news. (local weather dudes are much calmer)

We're supposed to be leaving Tuesday from Charleston on the Fantasy. My concern is flooding. I don't know how we're going to get to port if Charleston is flooded!! Then there's another storm brewing about 700 miles east of the Bahamas. This is my first cruise, I'm kind of freaking out. I also feel like a jerk even going on vacation to a place that is getting beaten up by this storm. If there is any itinerary change and I'm given the opportunity to cancel, I plan on it. I feel so stupid for not getting the insurance!!
