Casino rates

So we now have to go to the trouble of booking a cruise first, then call to find out if there is a casino rate available, what the fare will be and cancel if we don't like the price?

No, I think you can call first and find out the fare with the rate applied before you decide to book. I have my casino rate code given to me by one of the Princess reps. She told me the code was associated with my Captain's Circle number, but it's not the same number. (Everyone has a Captain's Circle number who has sailed with Princess. Not everyone has a casino rate code.) The story is that Princess IT (those geniuses, lol) messed with the software (again) and made the rate invisible for on line bookings. They are apparently going to fix this glitch so the rate will appear again (but who knows with that bunch.) Like everyone else, I have no idea how or why I received the casino rate code, and I wouldn't be able to tell anyone how to go about getting it. (I don't really believe what the rep just mentioned here had to say since I was told differently. You know those reps often just pull information out of you-know-where. ;))

He did also say the casino rates would no longer be shown on the website. He said the reason was they were cracking down on this because of people somehow taking advantage of them and getting the rates for their friends, etc. who really weren't eligible. I wasn't sure how that was happening, and I didn't question him further.

This is not true. He is making this up. My TA said there is a notation on their website that says this is due to a software change as of 10/1 and they hope to fix it in the future so that individuals can see their pricing.

Thanks, that makes sense

It has been 24 days since that software change.

Plenty of time to fix it.

I agree with you. How could that even happen? I guess if someone booked himself into five cabins on the same ship and then invited his friends along... The rate is for an individual (with a Captain's Circle number) so one person gets the rate. How advertising that on a web site would change basic arithmetic, I don't know.

And your point is? :p:D;) We're talking about Princess' IT department here: Rule #1 If it's not broken, fix it.

Rule #2 If it is broken, don't fix it. LOL.

Not necessarily - having worked in the software industry, somethings take far longer than what one would think. I love the people who say "just fix it" with out knowing what it entails to implement things.

I worked in software development for over three decades. The fix should not be hard for someone who knows the appropriate area of software.

I do not know what their procedures are to then test and install and how long they take, but obviously this "bug" made it through all the testing they did before before it was released.

I personally am not going to judge someone else work or their work load with out knowing the details. They may be entirely under staffed.

All people have to do is pick up a phone and call to see if their cruise qualifies for the discount. Not that difficult.

No, but it does negatively impact spontaneous purchases. I monitor cruise prices all of the time on the Princess website. When I hit a 10 day cruise for December 2016 and the total $1200 casino discount showed up for the cabin of my choice, I instantly booked it. If it did not show me that discount, I guarantee that I would not have booked it, nor would I have called. I researched over 100 cruises on 4 different lines for December 2016 through March 2017 that day and I chose that one because of the great casino fare that was visible to me online.

Nearly all of my cruises have been spur of the moment decisions based on me surfing the corporate cruise sites for deals. For that reason, I believe that Princess would be smart to either reinstate the visual online discount or fix it if it is a bug.

My 2 cents! Paul

I wonder though if you can have multiple casino rate at that same time? I booked two Caribbean cruises with the casino rate and really didn't know what was happening everytime that rate just dropped when I selected a cabin. (yeah and booked on impulse because of that drop!) But was talking to Princess when they informed me it was a casino rate that was good for anything I booked through December 31st, 2015.

BUT I just got a new offer in the mail (never saw an offer for the earlier casino discount). This offer is specifically for Alaska, Europe, and Asia and include casino cash.

I probably need to call - or better yet sit down with the future cruise consultant when I board the Regal in two weeks. I really want to book an Alaskan cruise!

I just came off a cruise and dh and bought in for $100 each, played a little and then cashed out. Some people have posted they gambled very little and got casino rates. We gambled for a short time but curious to know if that could qualify for casino rate and how would I know if dh or I would be offered it?

No one knows why they offer the rates or what it takes to get them. I was sent a letter in the regular mail about mine.

Others have posted that the number of cabins top be sold for each eligible cruise is limited.

In other words, what you might find for an Alaska cruise today may not be available when you board the Regal.

If you really want that Alaska cruise, then you should check it out now when there is a higher chance the casino rate would be available to you.
