Working 2 Cruise Posted October 25, 2015 #2 Share Posted October 25, 2015 So does anyone know what the next sale is going to be with Princess? Sorry, but I don't have a crystal ball... on one of these threads, someone said there's one coming up with free upgrade and a bottle of wine... Steelers36 Posted October 25, 2015 #8 Share Posted October 25, 2015 Yes-- but new bookings only. Hardly matters since none of the listed dates are anywhere near FP, so customers can do whatever suits them.
caribill Posted October 25, 2015 #9 Share Posted October 25, 2015 Princess "sales" are now mostly the same price as the previous "sale" but with different amenities (AIBP on one sale, free gratuities on another). Same pricing exceptions: a) If the ship is selling well, the price will go up b) If there is a lower price, it will be usually be no more that a couple of hundreds of $$$. Princess (and other cruise lines) are trying to keep "price integrity" in order to train customers to book early for best pricing and to avoid deep discounting in order to fill up cabins. Adding amenities such as free gratuities effectively lowers the cost of the cruise while keeping listed price integrity. How well is this working? Well RCL told financial analysts that "The program has been in place for seven months or so, and we have not granted a single exception to the policy. I acknowledge it has cost us a bit and is costing us a bit this year in revenue, and some cabins have gone empty which could have been filled with dramatic last minute deals, but we stood firm and we have made zero exceptions." Mekamax Posted October 25, 2015 #11 Share Posted October 25, 2015 Princess has lost business too. Last minute deals for local people really fill up the ship. BUT it seems what the cruise lines are really doing is promoting to casino people. They are getting awesome deals behind the scenes.

Launch fares are offering fares and may not have been in effect for the past 90 days or resulted in actual sales in all categories. Intermediate discounts may have been taken and fares may remain at discounted levels after this promotion. In effect, this could cover having the same pricing as the previous sale, as long as that sale also was lower than applicable launch fares. So, this new sale could really just be the amenity of saving on PrincessAir bookings which would in affect reduce the total cost of the cruise without changing the recent cruise pricing. Only by seeing the actual "sale" prices will we know if it is a "fare sale" or only an "amenity-sale."
shredie Posted October 25, 2015 #15 Share Posted October 25, 2015 (edited) The casino deals are not last-minute-fill-up-the-ship pricing. They are offered many months before the cruise sails. I have a casino rate for a cruise in Sept of 2016. I think with all the discussion here on the boards about the casino rates, people who don't have it think it's more widespread than it is. Why it's offered to someone is a complete mystery to those of us who have it. Some seem to spend a lot in the casino, but some have only been in the casino a couple of times to drop $20. If you don't have the rate, we are deeply sorry ;) but we do, and we like it. :D (If it makes you feel any better, the rate is not offered on every cruise.) badtwin Posted October 25, 2015 #16 Share Posted October 25, 2015 We are new to Princess and considering a British Isles sailing next spring. Cruising with DH and adult DD in one room. The current pricing has a very good discount for the third in a room, bringing the average per person price down to an attractive level but we are hesitating. (DH likes a bargain.) We are traveling from Washington state so airfare is also a big factor, although we can do better if we travel to Vancouver BC. Which is a lot of background to ask: 1) Is the third and fourth in a cabin discount a Princess standard or is it part of the current 3 plus whatever promotion? 2) Can anyone tell me if Princess eZAir is competitive. We have never found the cruise line airfares much of a bargain so had doubts that the new sale would help that much. Thanks

Which is a lot of background to ask: 1) Is the third and fourth in a cabin discount a Princess standard or is it part of the current 3 plus whatever promotion? The 3rd and 4th person in a cabin on Princess are usually at a lower price than the first two people. The actual price can vary, just like the price for the first two. 2) Can anyone tell me if Princess eZAir is competitive. We have never found the cruise line airfares much of a bargain so had doubts that the new sale would help that much. Thanks Consider EZAir a place to check pricing and compare to what pricing and schedule you can obtain elsewhere. Sometimes (especially for one way across an ocean) it is very much less than what you can get elsewhere. EZAir will have a selection of flights from some, but not all airlines, so you might be able to get a better fare with an airline not in EZAir. One benefit of EZAir is the Flexible Fare option which allows you to reprice, change or cancel flights at no charge up to 45 days before the trip. When booking with most airlines, the best fares do not allow any changes without significant fees.

For our upcoming Europe trip we saved over 800 pp by going through EZAir rather than booking directly with the airline on the same flights - it does pay to shop and compare prices. badtwin Posted October 25, 2015 #21 Share Posted October 25, 2015 I really would book it now... this is the type of cruise that typically sells out fast. Believe me, I know after looking for a British Isles cruise last year and finally giving up. This has been the source of "discussion" for much of the weekend. Unfortunately, (well fortunately but not now) for our last two cruises we found incredible deals on balconies on Celebrity in the Mediterranean and DH has those pp/pd price points in mind. Guess I will just cross my fingers.
kayred Posted October 28, 2015 #22 Share Posted October 28, 2015 I will confirm with Princess when the sale starts but I am interested in my friends at CC experiences. If I book withe this sale that combines air and cabin price and then in the next few months the cabin price drops again will I loose my flight? I currently have a cruise and Ezra's air booked for Alaska in June.
cherylandtk Posted October 28, 2015 #23 Share Posted October 28, 2015 Do you have Flex air or Restricted air? The sale is not a combined price for cabin + airfare, it is $ off the cabin price plus $ off the air price. If you have to cancel and rebook, then yes, you lose the air booking, too. If you purchased the air already, this can be a real mess and not worth the sale. If you have flex air, and have not purchased the air yet, you can usually rebook the same flights. But look at the totals and all options in a mock booking before canceling. If you can do this as a refare (without cancellation) then you keep the current air booking. But most sales these days are for new bookings, which means you must do the former.
LEtue Posted October 28, 2015 #24 Share Posted October 28, 2015 Hard to imagine that the new sale will offer anything low enough for Alaska 2016 yet. The best price right now for an inside cabin is over $2100 (solo passenger). Yes, free gratuities are included (value $80.) but I don't care about the specialty dining when cruising alone. The bonus $100 OBC (RT Seattle sailings) is gone but that wouldn't have helped the bottom line much either :( As in the past, I will be waiting until next year - even if I have to wait until after final payments are due. kayred Posted October 28, 2015 #25 Share Posted October 28, 2015 I have flex air but I agree this will have to be a great sale if I am going to mess with my flight. I would hate to have something in the future mess up my flight and I am dreaming of a good sale/up sell offer to upgrade to a balcony. Probably just a dream but a girl can hope :).
